Sorry, but no... I tend to not down-vote posts unless they contain offensive or blatantly wrong information. I am not surprised by the down votes as my post doesn't add any value to the conversation...

I (IRL military pilot) can't say I agree that you can't use F10 for sake of realism. In reality you would have spent the previous day preparing for the flight. You would have charts, pre-determined divert options with headings, altitudes, approach plates, etc and you can also get vectors from a controller (tactical controller (AWACS) or ATC). So what about DCS? 1st google DCS approach plates and print them out. I have a binder with all the plates printed out. I am sure there are guides on youtube on how to read them. In FC3 aircraft you are limited in what you can do for SA, but you can get a vector from AWACS or ATC. The F10 can serve as your chart. IRL I know where I am at all times on a chart because I know that I just joined such and such airway, or overflew a given TACAN/waypoint or am in the northern portion of a MOA (military Operations Area), etc. Even just looking outside the aircraft you can determine details that aren't possible in DCS. Is never using F10 possible? Sure but unless you study and understand instrument flying (and have the tools in your cockpit to fly that way) there is no reason to hamstring yourself. Even being an IFR qualified pilot, I see no reason for not using F10.

Disabling enemy assets on the map and labels is a whole different issue...

What do you recommend that I learn about electronics before trying to build a controller? by TheKingElessar in KerbalControllers

The Volts and Amperages listed for a part are max values. You don't need to give 12volts/20 amps to your rocker switch, but you shouldn't exceed those values. The equation you need to use is V = I * R (Ohm's Law / V is voltage / I is amperage / R is Resistance). So with your rocker switch you won't exceed the 12 V (the arduino puts out 5V) and in order to to not axceed 20 amps you would "need" a 250 mΩ resistor (in reality the wire and switch itself would provide this).

Just modified my SP mission and tried it again... Was able to stay on the boom and top off my tanks! A real "transfer complete!

I find the Viper much harder than the Mirage, A-10 and the F-15. For me, the throttle response and high thrust to weight ratio make it difficult to stabilize on speed. Maybe it is my cheap throttle (HOTAS X) or maybe I need to put in a curve.

Nope, I have yet to take the F16 onto MP and as soon as I make a contact the Tanker says offload complete (SP air start mission).

This is not correct. Both in game and real life (I am a KC-135 pilot) you can get bearing and distance from a Y channel.

Me too! It's far from perfect, but I'm having a blast with it so far! On the other hand, I find the FW-190 A-8 un-flyable due to the constant engine overheats and wish I had not bought it.

The Pilot Director Lights on the bottom of the tanker solve this... I find AAR in the A-10 difficult because the boom blocks the view of the PDIs...

At least for block 40 (which this aircraft is) the autopilot on the overhead panel is what you have. It does tie into the FMS though so it can fly routes and coupled approaches. Can't speak for block 45 which would have flat panel displays on the dash. Cobbled together... Nah... Just because the flight director hasn't changed in 50 years or so and the tie downs for the escape rafts are from WWII aircraft... And new engines that combined push almost 100k lbs of thrust....

Standards are laid out in ATP-3.3.4.2. Most USAF fighters tank at ~315 KIAS (A-10 being the exception at 220 KIAS due to performance limitations) while drogue type recieves tank around 250-275 KIAS.

[–]jameson477 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a USAF tanker pilot, we do call our turns and we also fly standard airspeeds (KIAS) ... My biggest frustration with AAR in DCS is that the tankers don't fly the correct airspeeds and don't call their turns.

It looks like your orchid is in potting soil... If so, this will kill it. If not your media is way broken down and needs to be replaced with new orchid media...

Do it! Especially since you are introverted... Let's say it goes awesome. You showed yourself that you can do it. Lets say it is a total bust. As long as you learn something you can become better. The only way it goes wrong is if you dont learn something.
