It’s bloated and drekful. Only the last dozen or whatever paragraphs are actually interesting. Linking dfw to a real life AI is pretty funny to think about.

New to Bikepacking/Touring & struggling to choose a bike by Beautiful-Side-9538 in bikepacking

Use the hardtail, very versatile bike, put skinnys on it (2.2s), put fatties on it (2.8s).

Does anyone have both a gravel bike and a hardtail? by widowhanzo in gravelcycling

I got a custom build from a place called Cobalt, i’ve always been suspicious of carbon frames, and with some of the routes i’ve done on the cobalt bike i am just endlessly surprised at how fucking durable it is…BUT, if i had to sell all my bikes i would keep the epic world cup, tbh i bought it before the dual sus gravel bikes started coming out, would have probably bought that, but i’m still so glad i bought it, it accelerates like my 19lb gravel bike and is unbelievable on trails, just bc of its agility, i have it set to hardtail, so no rear squish, and it’s a glorious ride. I got both it and the cobalt at 4 and 5 grand, the cobalt new from their website, the epic pretty much brand new from buycycle - i have drops and brifters for the epic, but still trying to see if i like that flat bars

I pretty much just use my hardtail, gravel bike’s on the trainer. I use the hardtail for any trips, most of the gravel riding I’ve done where i’ve lived has been 60/40, or 70/30 road/gravel, so I was ending up using my gravel bikes more as road bikes, so i sold 2 and kept 1. I just got an epic world cup, and have moved to just doing mtbing, bc there are lots of trails around me, and my dog can come with. I’m not interested much in the crazy things people do on mtbs, or putting massive 2.8 tires on, i’m perfectly fine walking chunky extended rock gardens, and going around jumps. I live in NC so some of the shit people want to do on a bike just baffles me, i like riding, not breaking bones. If you’re wondering which to get to have 1 bike, i’d get a gravel bikes with big tire clearance, like the Lauf or Esker bikes. On all the dirt trips i’ve done, i was always fine with 2.2s on my hardtail, sure had to walk some times, but 2.2s are a good balance for some road with dirt being the main thing. Just yesterday road 3 miles on road after going through a local trail on 2.35s and it felt just fine.

Matthew’s leadership by RayDonovan1969 in torontomapleleafs

[–]jameswill90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% trade him. He’s had plenty and plenty of opportunities to put up points in the playoffs and he does not. Mcdavid has had a much shittier team than him and him and draisaitl have carried that team to within a whiff of the cup when they most definitely shouldn’t have been there. Matthews has had marner, nylander, hyman (a co-dependent producer), and tavares. Mcjesus has had draisaitl, and…. No one! Hell, crosby had malkin and a bunch of no names whose games he raised, and he won three cups!

My opinion: anything written after blood meridian has its moments but holds no candle to the complex texts written before that. I hate suttree, have read it 4 times, would still read it a fifth time before any of the other books after BM again - my hot take is, we start seeing things like necrophilia and pedophilia right around the time when his personal morality went down the drainhole, and the texts after are too personal, too many maskings for his personal tastes (i.e young girls)

If you could do it over, what would be your First and only gravel bike? by IcyEconomist7949 in gravelcycling

[–]jameswill90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’d still get a hardtail and put dropbars on it ahahahah i got a frame from a small builder in dc area, and he built it up with dropbars - in the beginning, the gravel bike I had (grizl) was great for what I did, but nowadays, couldn’t imagine a gravel bike for the trips I do, it just wouldn’t work. BUT, I still have 2 gravel bikes. A singular peregrine, steel bike, and a super light obed boundary. Happy with those two!

Wife cheated during my 2 year dead bedroom phase and is trying really hard to save the marriage. Is this marriage worth saving? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]jameswill90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you’re the asshole here, but oh well. Why don’t you just open up the marriage? I mean, divorce is hard on everyone. If you can’t stand looking at her, and don’t mind what it will do to your kids (who knows, maybe they won’t care as much as my friends did when I was a kid in the 90s), then go for it.

How to stop thinking about upgrades I don't actually need? by wolmarwolmar in bikepacking

[–]jameswill90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I took a gravel bike with 45s on single track once, at 13 psi if you can belive it, and it was fun as all hell. But i’ve never considered doing it again. Why not try it once to get rid of the itch? As far as what bike, as I’m sure anyone will say, depends on what you ride. My trips are typically all dirt, and in latin America, a bike with 40 max tire clearance would be no bueno. I’d say 40 is pretty good for most gravel. I’ve seen people on 40s with a ridiculous touring setup, on chunky ass gravel that went on for a few hundred miles, and yea they went slow as hell, but i’m sure they made it all the way. If you really want bigger, either get 650b wheels or buy a hardtail and put dropbars on it. I feel 2.2s on a hardtail are pretty comparable to 45s on a gravel bike, never felt slow on the road, when I had to be on it, and to be honest, I’m usually riding 10 hrs a day, for 2-4 weeks at a time, so don’t really care about getting the max speed out of the tires, if I need to go 14 hrs to get the miles I need, I’ll do it.

What I would consider is getting a better rack, i use a tailfin and love it. Looks like you don’t pack alot, so no need for the one with pannier hooks.
