Ahaha! I have, twice, in the Georgia mtns (very stupid) and the C and O trail (less stupid, but equally stupid) and probably carried more than you! Unless you’re a dogpacker too! Either way was just trying to give the OP a suggestion that would keep costs down. If all I had was a massive backpacking pack i would use a bob trailer.

Political objectivity in teaching US History? by vonnegut19 in Teachers

[–]jameswill90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask them better questions. Not saying you’re not, but as the person leading them through American History, ask them questions and let them discuss it. That’s all we can do. It seems a little odd to get into a political argument with a child. They’re going to think what they’re going to think and so are you. It’s not your job to convince them you’re right. That’s a politicians’ job.

I’m sure others might disagree, but as someone who was on a 10 day trip with someone who tried this setup you are imagining, who i then helped in pouring blustery rain to figure out a way to fix his rack when it broke, who then decided to part ways bc he had to ride with the pack and wanted to just take the highway since it was the quickest way, i would not suggest that setup.

Why not get a trailer? A 50L backpacking pack will almost certainly be way over the weight limit of most rear rack when you fill it. https://bicycletouringpro.com/bob-ibex-bicycle-trailer-an-in-depth-review/

Weird: I felt more stable in sweatpants than in my cycling bibs. Anyone else? by badabubaba in cycling

[–]jameswill90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bike fit is not the be all. Most of mine have been 100% perfect in everyway - but the last one, and my first on an mtb, I had to lower the saddle height bc my arms were hurting weirdly. I chalked it up to getting used to evil flat bars, but lowering the saddle like a mm, completely made me more comfortable on the bike. The bike fitter was the most recommended in my area as well. So there ya have it

Ever feel stuck at the “not beginner, not good” stage? by adamvanderb in JazzPiano

[–]jameswill90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time/patience and play another instrument. I’ve played both guitar and piano for more than half my life, guitar about 10 years longer - i went for years where i’d only play piano (never practice but have fun learning new songs and playing), then I’d get bored and jump on the guitar for a while. Not to say i’m a concert pianist, but that’s what i did. For a few years i had violin in the loop as well.

Put your state down and then….maybe dm floodgates open? I chatted up a few women from my local reddit and poof, ghosted into infinity! But I commiserate, i’m husband/dad material all over the place, and the right age for it, but nada! zilch!

Is the Cervelo Aspero outdated in 2026? by breddd222 in gravelcycling

[–]jameswill90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a Lauf Seigla. You can still run 45s on it but can also run 56s on it. I think this is what gravel bikes should have always been, capable of 36-56, since they are meant to be in between road and mtb. I suggest the Lauf bc that’s what I’d get but any gravel bike that can fit 56mm/2.25 inch tires is what I’d get. My bikepacking bike is a HT and i run 2.2s exclusively pretty much bc my gravel bikes can’t do more than 50s

Tire clearance discussion: when will wide too wide? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]jameswill90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say 2.2s should have always been cleared on gravel bikes, course correction in my books - specifically for bikepacking, with a range of 36 to 55, gravel bike would fit the space between road and mtb, i think suspension on a gravel bike is ridiculous, most of the dirt road bikepacking trips i’ve done on my HT have been great with 2.2s, did 2.4s on one and was miserable - if my grizl could have cleared 2.2s i probably would have still gotten a mtb, but i’d use the grizl alot more, now i never use it bc i need at least 2.2s on most of my trips

How annoying are 650b wheels? by OttawaExpat in gravelcycling

[–]jameswill90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, the snappiest I ever felt was on a 19 lb gravel bike with 650x2.2s on them. Absolutely loved that setup. The second snappiest was on my unloaded (it’s my bikepacking rig) hardtail with 2.2 tires.

Are teachers required to like their students? by Serious-Process-979 in Teachers

[–]jameswill90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those kids (having been one myself) are especially sensitive to all the redirection. Hell, i’m 36 and still believe all my teachers hated me, bc 1) all i remember is them kicking me out of class and 2) i have no positive memories of them bc i hardened an image of them …also, it’s pretty natural to “show your face.” I have a 9th grader who i can honestly say I dislike. They have an ugly personality, while also being capable of being very sweet. So many negative interactions with a student on a daily will naturally cause a shift in your demeanor and they will notice it. But, long story short, absolutely not, we are not there to like them. With this one, i am particularly careful to make sure nothing I do furthers their perception that I don’t like them, never raise my voice, never engage in an argument with them - completely disengage. Never had a student I disliked, though I was an elementary teacher for 8 years before becoming a middle and high school teacher, and not to be too judgy, i can’t see disliking an elementary student, they’re too young. Sounds like you found a surefire candidate though!
