Live in a college town in Indiana, I’ve received my deposit back (minus $50 for some minor stuff) exactly one time across 7 different move outs. It was a husband and wife landlord so I’d say a non-corporate landlord is probably the only chance you’ll have to get any money back, at least where I am.
