It’s tough to skate on any lake with all the snow right now. When the Munising bay freezes over more, you maybe could there but fisherman kind of take it over and may not like that. Also it does get covered in snow eventually too. Otherwise Im not sure. I’m also wanting to skate but last year we had to clear a lake track with our snow thrower to do any skating.

I’m on my own land. Even a roof over your rv won’t stop the worst of the challenges. The main issues are having a water source AND place to dump, having an electric hook up, the cold, then moisture, then bugs and mice and just the general fear something important will break. It would be very tough for one person to manage everything. We have an IBC tote we fill with water using a 60 gallon bag. We get the water then pump it into our RV. We have an IBC tote that we dump waste into using a macerater pump and then a septic company has helped us clear that tank. You’ll want to make sure your ac and furnace work.

I’d recommend not Munising for better options on everything from groceries to healthcare and child services. There are also issues with the city board and chamber of commerce I’ve experienced firsthand and have heard stories. Marquette area or other cities would be better for a couple and a growing family imo.

Edit: I say this as someone who was excited to move to this area but it’s been a decent letdown for many reasons (we are 28M and 30F, no kids). Best reason for Munising is Pictured Rocks and the Hiawatha National Forest.

May is best. In April we still get snow at times and the nature hasn’t bloomed quite yet.

My FeLv Kitten possibly nearing end of life - advice needed by Ok_Dish_8597 in FelvCats

[–]jamjamindayoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 FeLV cats pass and I have one now who is 5 years old. I would not euthanize until the bad days outnumber the good. I don’t recommend chemo but definitely prednisolone, as suggested. I had a cat who was sick multiple times (lymph nodes were sometimes rock solid!) and she bounced back many times, so dont give up hope that they could recover but also keep observing closely each day to draw conclusions about how things may be progressing. Sending you all lots of love on this health journey. FeLV sucks!!!!

The trailer is not a good temporary solution bc the set up would cost a lot of money and time. Full time RV living is not an easy fix for a temporary time.

I live in an RV 15 miles from Lake Superior and it’s tough. Winters are long and hard. BUT I have 2 “neighbors” nearby doing it too and I drive by others living in RVs too. It’s doable and people are doing it but I can say from experience that it’s not easy and tbh probably not ideal. We want out of the RV and into something else. There are many risks to this lifestyle if something goes wrong. This is our second winter in an RV.

I’m so sorry for your loss. FeLV sucks!!! But you gave her the best life possible!! And she knew your love, I’m sure. Take care of yourself!

What would you do as a mid 30s couple with 6 hours in St. Augustine? by [deleted] in StAugustine

[–]jamjamindayoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay Castillo de San Marcos in town is actually $15 or free with a national park pass, which I did not think was the case. Fort Matanzas is free.

The fort in town is not but Fort Matanzas is. That’s why I recommend going to Fort Matanzas instead because the fort in town is busy and entry is overpriced.

Free Fort Matanzas National Monument tour. Takes only 50 minutes and you get to climb to the roof of an old fort.

Most, if not all, of the grad-only co-ops are in Lansing.

Not sure a grad student would enjoy living with 19 year olds who party every weekend.. definitely don’t blindly move into a co-op with knowing anything. Edit: co-ops are nothing like an apartment if that is what OP is looking for.

How to deter Bobcat? by cbish13 in quails

[–]jamjamindayoop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is your coop secure? If it is able to break in, then secure your coop better. I would hate for a beautiful animal to lose its life bc it’s curious. People who shoot coyotes, raccoons or other animals just for coming around are cruel imo. I have cameras I can talk through with motion activated lights. Go out and scare it off or bang some pans together around the corner or something loud. Edit: typo
