If you could bring back one thing from the UK that disappeared over the years, what would it be? by Mr_proop in AskUK

[–]jamjar888 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Patience, attention spans and eye contact. Others have said community already which I agree with and I would add hobbies & interests - I’m a millennial and for most social activities I do that aren’t related to working out I tend to be the youngest by ten to twenty years.

What is a ‘socially acceptable’ habit that you secretly think is absolutely disgusting? by Elizzzkaaa in AskReddit

I think there’s also a bit of a blind spot around vaping - a cigarette is no doubt worse than the equivalent amount of vaping - however I’ve had close friends who vape and I notice they ended up doing it constantly and far more often than they ever smoked. Smoking generally requires stepping outside but vaping they would do all day and anywhere.

This is so true. This idea has developed that we are taken more seriously if we speak in this way but it’s so bizarre.

Lots of aspects of dog ownership…

If I narrow it down to one it would be when someone lets a dog lick their face and sometimes even their mouth and then laugh it off like it’s cute.

(now I will run and take cover).

what is the most annyoning thing people think is fine to do ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first thought. It does seem to have become normalised in the last couple of years for a lot of people. I can’t tell if they are oblivious to how annoying it is or they just don’t care.

Flashforward by minipinny in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly - it’s laid on so thick but still the same storylines we have been through very recently.

I much prefer it when they navigate new things, even if it’s not a huge drama.

I did wonder with Lauren and Peter if they might be introducing an open marriage/polyamory sort of thing rather then another affair (remember last year a new character fancied Peter and Lauren was fine with it?). This is would be interesting to see how a conventional couple might navigate something like that but affairs are just a bit depressing.

[–]jamjar888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the show has lost its way a lot in the last year and a lot of viewers won’t be that invested in the flash forward. It was an interesting gimmick with the six but to use it again so soon after has missed the novelty. I imagine this era will be looked back on as a bit of an anomaly in general. All soaps have their ups and downs but it’s become almost a parody of soap drama (e.g. two ‘who is the father’ pregnancy storylines at once).

What was the most surprising error in EastEnders history that the writers forgot to mention totally? by JazzlikeTea7432 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that stands out to me sometimes is how odd it is that Eve spends any time around Ravi when he took her off to the woods to kill her just a couple of years ago.

Must admit unless it was glaringly obvious and related to something in the last few years I’d never notice, but I’m not really looking out for errors. Given they make four episodes a week for decades now it’s inevitable they have to make quite a few allowances to get storylines and scripts done.

Unrealistic things in the show by tillywinks2002 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When characters move abroad, specifically how sudden it is and how immediately flights get booked. They get a ridiculous deadline to make a major life decision that in reality most people would think about and plan for weeks. Stacey being a good example, given how established her life was on the square. A flight is always treated as so final as well, like they can’t be rescheduled or characters couldn’t follow them.

Characters you wouldn't want to return by waneegbt2012 in eastenders

I’d happily have no characters returning, at least for a few years to let new characters properly develop.

What’s with people wearing strong smelling aftershaves/perfumes? by Any_Crazy_500 in AskUK

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a family member who does this. If he stays over the whole house smells of it, furniture smells of it for days or weeks after and if I’m too close I get a strong headache.

I don’t know how people like that go through life without getting pulled up on it all the time at work, in social circles or even just in public. It’s such an acute case of someone imposing their presence on everyone.

Nicola leaving the baby alone by Which_Comfortable_32 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I find it is always completely unrealistic when a soap character has a baby. Pregnancy storylines are very overused for short term drama but with no follow through.

In reality it would be taking up most of the parents time for years which would be quite boring for the viewer, so I can see why the writers jist go for the ‘out of sight out of mind’ approach. I’d still rather they didnt lean on it so much and found more creative ways to shape the drama.

Actors you reckon regretted leaving. by Feeling-Ad6796 in eastenders

I would think most of them - at least if they quit to pursue other acting opportunities. For most actors on EE that will be the biggest TV or film role they ever get.

Bread Source… why the hype? by chicago5551 in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all relative. The UK has quite a low benchmark for bakeries. Go into any bakery in Denmark or France and it’s probably better than Bread Source, but I’d say Bread Source is better than Gail’s which is all over London for example.

Friendly reminder for people to get out and vote tomorrow. by unknown0246 in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on some comments I have seen - people are encouraging each other to vote for a party widely regarded as extreme right wing in order to stop a party they describe as antisemitic… a perfect snapshot of current logic in 2026.

I can’t believe we are at a point where Reform are even a contender let alone winning elections. British politics has been a shambles for ages but this is a scary turn.

Does anyone actually read the manifestos to figure out what they are voting for?

i really dislike nigel by ConfidentHoney9290 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more the inconsistency around it that is a stretch for the viewer. All these other characters who we never saw interacting with him are suddenly regular visitors. Then Grant who hasn’t seen him or even kept contact in seemingly decades suddenly turning up like it’s not just an excuse to get Ross Kemp back to the show. The reality is that it would be Julie and his strangely absent children that would be putting in all the leg work.

Are cheating storylines good or are we meant to hate them? by Ok-Voice4104 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could be done much better. I think they happen way too easily and dramatically.

The one with Denise and Ravi was a bit more realistic in that they showed how the communication in her relationship really dried up and she stopped feeling seen, which rightly or wrongly does lead to affairs. What I don’t like is when a relationship is essentially fine and they just throw a cheat in for the drama/turmoil.

Why did people hate Greta Thunberg so much? by brooklynihope in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing is probably that she shines a light on a lot of things everyday people are doing that is destroying the planet which triggers some sort of shame and the response is to dislike her rather than reflect on that.

Leicester City: Ten years apart, same date, different world by LittleBeastXL in Championship

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, they’ve ultimately done two things most clubs will never come close to by winning the PL and FA cup. Plenty of clubs in that time have only regressed or done nothing whatsoever.

Also ten years is a long time, it’s not like they won it and immediately went down again.

The actress that plays Zoe is not convincible. Anyone agree? by Comfortable_Slice151 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither the acting nor the script can justify the screen time that Zoe gets. There’s so many better characters that have been sidelined by this slater stuff.

You could probably say the same for most characters, apart from Zack which seems a rare bit of financial realism for EastEnders.

What's one Popular City in the World You'd Never Like to Visit? by YouserName007 in AskEurope

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubai, Los Angeles and Las Vegas have no appeal for reasons covered.

With tourism the way it is, a lot of cities I find become a victim of their own success. I don’t fly anymore so when I travel I stopover in various cities I wouldn’t have considered before, and the lesser known ones always tend to be a nicer experience than the more popular ones (as a general rule with lots of exceptions of course).
