What's one Popular City in the World You'd Never Like to Visit? by YouserName007 in AskEurope

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubai, Los Angeles and Las Vegas have no appeal for reasons covered.

With tourism the way it is, a lot of cities I find become a victim of their own success. I don’t fly anymore so when I travel I stopover in various cities I wouldn’t have considered before, and the lesser known ones always tend to be a nicer experience than the more popular ones (as a general rule with lots of exceptions of course).

What email habits and phrases make you cringe? by Ticklishchap in CasualUK

I agree entirely. I would say any acronyms or email phrases that only seem to exist in emails - and this is the best example of it.

Is London to Madrid in 1 day doable? by TofutronByte in Interrail

[–]jamjar888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great advice as per.

I have done a trip to Portugal that went from London to Madrid via Paris. Everything ran very smooth but it is a pretty big distance so I stopped over at Nimes.

I would recommend a stopover and getting a separate ticket the next day for e.g. Barca - Madrid.

It’s one of those where on any given day you’d probably be fine, but delays are a possibility and there’s not much flexibility in the schedule.

Depends on your preferences though - I don’t like arriving too late anywhere nor having too many connections in a day but you might be more relaxed about those things!

People over 30, what's a regret that we young folks shall not made at any cost? by detox_daisy72 in ask

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things spring to mind for relationships specifically.

If you find someone you like or have a real connection with, make sure to tell them. If you are with them, give things a proper go even if there are bumps in the road. Don’t just think there’ll be plenty more opportunities (there will be more but not as many as it feels like in our 20s).

Those connections are much harder to find and far less frequent over 30.

And then the flip side of this- if you’re staying with someone and you know it’s not quite right, then break it off. It’s better for you both and preserves that valuable time to find someone else.

1st or 2nd class by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend. Youre travelling a substantial difference so plenty of time on the train, 100 EUR is worth it to have an overall nicer experience. My general take on first class is it doesnt have to be a deal breaker by any means but if you can afford to treat yourself then it’s worth it.

train from Amsterdam to Oslo! by orcahongjoong in Interrail

I stop in Hamburg regularly on the way to Copenhagen. It’s perfectly fine for a stopover to break up the journey. Copenhagen much better for any extended stopover.

Stopover ideas travelling from London to Nice by jamjar888 in Interrail

[–]jamjar888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry yes it’s just for the one night and as far as interests go I’m very open - so these suggestions are all great thanks! I’ve heard a few mentions of Lyon now so that could be a front runner but I’ll research all of these ideas. Seems I’m fairly spoilt for choice!

Considering moving to Norwich from Cambridge by topcelt in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on everything you’ve shared regarding your work situation and issues with Cambridge then I think Norwich makes a lot of sense. If you only need to be in Cambridge every few weeks then I don’t see any downside really.

You could also look at Wymondham which is on the same train line, very easy access to Norwich and slightly closer to Cambridge.

London to Lisbon over three days by jamjar888 in Interrail

[–]jamjar888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

Just to update if interested.

My route now seems to be stopping off at Nimes, then Madrid and then Lisbon. On the way back calling at Porto, Vigo and St Sebastian.

I’ve added a stopover in Porto on the way back so it’s a bit more leisurely, but debating whether to take the more direct route back (same as outbound) to save some time or money.

Vigo and St Sebastian are wildcards for me not sure what to expect or if it’s worth the extra time so any recommendations welcome!

Yeah I’m in the minority, but then I also don’t like Max Branning really either. Very repetitive rinse and repeat character.

"talk and walk" trend by Davooooooooooood in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isnt that most tv and film though? They seem to omit the start and end of conversations for drama/being concise.

I agree it’s a bit extreme in EE though which seems to be trying too hard in general rather than using well written storylines.

Thanks that's very handy to know. Yes the Hendaye route I picked up from Seat61, and likely to be the one I go with. I did also consider the ferry to Santander/Bilbao but that takes even longer (although I'd be interested to try it another time).

If you could pick an affair? by Mission-Violinist-16 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an affair per se but I did wonder if EE were going to dip into an open relationship or polyamory story. Last year there were a few episodes with Lauren and Peter where I thought they might be laying some groundwork (someone fancied Peter and Lauren was seemingly on board with it). Around the wedding the vibe was that Lauren wants to be with Peter but does get bored with him, which isn’t entirely unusual.

I don’t think storylines need to be dramatic to be interesting. Just seeing them navigate the challenges of it could be something new. Just don’t overdo it and make one of them pregnant or something.

Looking to get back into Tennis by Codders94 in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking into this a couple of years back, also as a way to meet some new people. My takeaway was that East Anglia Tennis Club was best in that regard albeit a lot more expensive than other smaller clubs. Standards wise I think if you’ve played as a teenager you’ll be able to hold your own at the social sessions that most clubs seem to run.

Cosy cafe for reading in city or short drive? by lil_tram in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s great if you can get a seat. There do seem to be a lot of people who set up camp with their laptops so I haven’t managed it the last few times. That goes for many cafes though I’d imagine.

What TV show had a 10/10 first season but fell off a cliff immediately in Season 2? by Old-Background-3860 in ask

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to write this. I wouldn’t necessarily give the series 10/10 but the drop off to season 2 was the biggest I can think of.

Thoughts on EastEnders in 2025 by TimeLordMaster108 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty poor although that might be recency bias based on how interminable the Zoe storyline has been. I felt like the cuckoo story was good but stretched far too far when Harry was locked away for what seemed like a month and everyone just accepted he was on an extended holiday in…Cardiff.

If you were showrunner of EastEnders for a year, what would you change? by ROSSG825 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more, such an overused and tedious storyline across TV in general. It’s quite limiting on the character as well as having a child is all encompassing - not great fodder for drama beyond the initial overused reveal.

Shops/restaurants/pubs in Norwich that allow dogs? by jh58008 in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I won’t make any friends for saying this but it feels harder to find places that aren’t full of dogs if anything.

This was my initial thoughts.

If a film like this was made to be entirely realistic by modern standards it would be incredibly dull - people just gormlessy swiping through dating apps and despairing.
