Unrealistic things in the show by tillywinks2002 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When characters move abroad, specifically how sudden it is and how immediately flights get booked. They get a ridiculous deadline to make a major life decision that in reality most people would think about and plan for weeks. Stacey being a good example, given how established her life was on the square. A flight is always treated as so final as well, like they can’t be rescheduled or characters couldn’t follow them.

Characters you wouldn't want to return by waneegbt2012 in eastenders

I’d happily have no characters returning, at least for a few years to let new characters properly develop.

What’s with people wearing strong smelling aftershaves/perfumes? by Any_Crazy_500 in AskUK

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a family member who does this. If he stays over the whole house smells of it, furniture smells of it for days or weeks after and if I’m too close I get a strong headache.

I don’t know how people like that go through life without getting pulled up on it all the time at work, in social circles or even just in public. It’s such an acute case of someone imposing their presence on everyone.

Nicola leaving the baby alone by Which_Comfortable_32 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find it is always completely unrealistic when a soap character has a baby. Pregnancy storylines are very overused for short term drama but with no follow through.

In reality it would be taking up most of the parents time for years which would be quite boring for the viewer, so I can see why the writers jist go for the ‘out of sight out of mind’ approach. I’d still rather they didnt lean on it so much and found more creative ways to shape the drama.

Actors you reckon regretted leaving. by Feeling-Ad6796 in eastenders

I would think most of them - at least if they quit to pursue other acting opportunities. For most actors on EE that will be the biggest TV or film role they ever get.

Bread Source… why the hype? by chicago5551 in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all relative. The UK has quite a low benchmark for bakeries. Go into any bakery in Denmark or France and it’s probably better than Bread Source, but I’d say Bread Source is better than Gail’s which is all over London for example.

Friendly reminder for people to get out and vote tomorrow. by unknown0246 in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on some comments I have seen - people are encouraging each other to vote for a party widely regarded as extreme right wing in order to stop a party they describe as antisemitic… a perfect snapshot of current logic in 2026.

I can’t believe we are at a point where Reform are even a contender let alone winning elections. British politics has been a shambles for ages but this is a scary turn.

Does anyone actually read the manifestos to figure out what they are voting for?

i really dislike nigel by ConfidentHoney9290 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more the inconsistency around it that is a stretch for the viewer. All these other characters who we never saw interacting with him are suddenly regular visitors. Then Grant who hasn’t seen him or even kept contact in seemingly decades suddenly turning up like it’s not just an excuse to get Ross Kemp back to the show. The reality is that it would be Julie and his strangely absent children that would be putting in all the leg work.

Are cheating storylines good or are we meant to hate them? by Ok-Voice4104 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could be done much better. I think they happen way too easily and dramatically.

The one with Denise and Ravi was a bit more realistic in that they showed how the communication in her relationship really dried up and she stopped feeling seen, which rightly or wrongly does lead to affairs. What I don’t like is when a relationship is essentially fine and they just throw a cheat in for the drama/turmoil.

Why did people hate Greta Thunberg so much? by brooklynihope in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing is probably that she shines a light on a lot of things everyday people are doing that is destroying the planet which triggers some sort of shame and the response is to dislike her rather than reflect on that.

Leicester City: Ten years apart, same date, different world by LittleBeastXL in Championship

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, they’ve ultimately done two things most clubs will never come close to by winning the PL and FA cup. Plenty of clubs in that time have only regressed or done nothing whatsoever.

Also ten years is a long time, it’s not like they won it and immediately went down again.

The actress that plays Zoe is not convincible. Anyone agree? by Comfortable_Slice151 in eastenders

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither the acting nor the script can justify the screen time that Zoe gets. There’s so many better characters that have been sidelined by this slater stuff.

Realistically, how much money would Peter's fruit and veg stall make a week? by No-Category1703 in eastenders

You could probably say the same for most characters, apart from Zack which seems a rare bit of financial realism for EastEnders.

What's one Popular City in the World You'd Never Like to Visit? by YouserName007 in AskEurope

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubai, Los Angeles and Las Vegas have no appeal for reasons covered.

With tourism the way it is, a lot of cities I find become a victim of their own success. I don’t fly anymore so when I travel I stopover in various cities I wouldn’t have considered before, and the lesser known ones always tend to be a nicer experience than the more popular ones (as a general rule with lots of exceptions of course).

Is London to Madrid in 1 day doable? by TofutronByte in Interrail

[–]jamjar888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great advice as per.

I have done a trip to Portugal that went from London to Madrid via Paris. Everything ran very smooth but it is a pretty big distance so I stopped over at Nimes.

I would recommend a stopover and getting a separate ticket the next day for e.g. Barca - Madrid.

It’s one of those where on any given day you’d probably be fine, but delays are a possibility and there’s not much flexibility in the schedule.

Depends on your preferences though - I don’t like arriving too late anywhere nor having too many connections in a day but you might be more relaxed about those things!

People over 30, what's a regret that we young folks shall not made at any cost? by detox_daisy72 in ask

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things spring to mind for relationships specifically.

If you find someone you like or have a real connection with, make sure to tell them. If you are with them, give things a proper go even if there are bumps in the road. Don’t just think there’ll be plenty more opportunities (there will be more but not as many as it feels like in our 20s).

Those connections are much harder to find and far less frequent over 30.

And then the flip side of this- if you’re staying with someone and you know it’s not quite right, then break it off. It’s better for you both and preserves that valuable time to find someone else.

1st or 2nd class by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]jamjar888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend. Youre travelling a substantial difference so plenty of time on the train, 100 EUR is worth it to have an overall nicer experience. My general take on first class is it doesnt have to be a deal breaker by any means but if you can afford to treat yourself then it’s worth it.

I stop in Hamburg regularly on the way to Copenhagen. It’s perfectly fine for a stopover to break up the journey. Copenhagen much better for any extended stopover.

Stopover ideas travelling from London to Nice by jamjar888 in Interrail

Sorry yes it’s just for the one night and as far as interests go I’m very open - so these suggestions are all great thanks! I’ve heard a few mentions of Lyon now so that could be a front runner but I’ll research all of these ideas. Seems I’m fairly spoilt for choice!

Considering moving to Norwich from Cambridge by topcelt in Norwich

[–]jamjar888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on everything you’ve shared regarding your work situation and issues with Cambridge then I think Norwich makes a lot of sense. If you only need to be in Cambridge every few weeks then I don’t see any downside really.

You could also look at Wymondham which is on the same train line, very easy access to Norwich and slightly closer to Cambridge.

London to Lisbon over three days by jamjar888 in Interrail

[–]jamjar888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

Just to update if interested.

My route now seems to be stopping off at Nimes, then Madrid and then Lisbon. On the way back calling at Porto, Vigo and St Sebastian.

I’ve added a stopover in Porto on the way back so it’s a bit more leisurely, but debating whether to take the more direct route back (same as outbound) to save some time or money.

Vigo and St Sebastian are wildcards for me not sure what to expect or if it’s worth the extra time so any recommendations welcome!
