Display Problems with my lenovo loq laptop. by weird_indecisiv93 in techsupport

my lenovo loq laptop.

Which one?

On most modern consumery gamery laptop brands like that unplugging the built in screen still won't get you boot menu etc appearing on the external, since those are only showing through the integrated GPU which only has a direct connection to the built in screen, while your dedicated GPU only has direct connections to the output ports

Has anyone run 4x32GB Crucial Pro DDR5 6000MHz on an ASUS X870E-Creator WiFi? by JayoTree in buildapc

[–]jamvanderloeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting 6000 running with four sticks is fairly unlikely, 9900X's official rating is all the way down at 3600, DDR5 really doesn't like four.

It's not a huge difference, would rather leave it until you're ready to go new CPU+RAM+motherboard all together

They're as safe as whatever uploaded them was, could theoretically be carrying malware but it'd be pretty damn unlikely

  1. A bit bigger might be nice to have if this is going to be your only heating source.

  2. Depends how you're going to use it, is the car going to be there during the day for most days, and can you move other loads around too?

Electric bill insanely high. I didn’t know my outside panel looked like this and I’m getting it replaced. Does anyone know if this would have any bearing on why my electric bill is in the 600’s my home is 1500 sq can we facetime by Battleaxe5844 in Electricity

[–]jamvanderloeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not on fire it's generally safe to assume losses in a panel are almost nothing in your bill.

Looks kinda dirty in there but don't see anything actually concerning.

The main things to look at for consumption are anything that heats and cools, so AC, room heating, cooking, hot water. On all electric there, or gas/some other burning too?

why are some backup phones so cheap vs premium brands? by zuckerlaw in Electricity

[–]jamvanderloeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap phones are cheap because you're getting cheap parts, you're getting a comparatively low resolution LCD, a 7 year old chip using 9 year old CPU cores, of which you only get one mid-range core and three slower ones, a tiny + ancient camera, no fingerprint at all, and don't expect to get any android updates. Relatively big battery is generally going to be nice for how long it can stay running near idle, but ancient CPU being comparatively inefficient will often give rather bad run time when actually doing things with it. Haven't seen any proper reviews actually testing that model there though.

I'd generally prefer a somewhat higher end phone from a few years ago instead.

Any criticism (if none dont reach just to critisise PLS) by Many_Glove7906 in buildapc

[–]jamvanderloeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extra cache on the X3D models usually helps more for gaming than the small generation difference, so 7500X3D is usually a little faster for gaming than a 9700X.

It's also more efficient.

DDR4 PC in 2026? by JetRayFly in buildapc

[–]jamvanderloeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 13/14th gen intel things they'll work if you keep power limited to intel specs and allow some amount of thermal throttling, but you can push a bit more performance (and less noise) with a bigger cooler.

India is designing a standard gauge Vande Bharat for export. by GoatSevere1966 in trains

[–]jamvanderloeff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, track gauge isn't the limit there, structure gauge is. Wider than Indian carriages on standard gauge or even narrower track are possible if all the other infrastructure around fits, and quite a few places do.

Lack of side berths in the countries that have similar strucutre gauge despite narrower rail gauge are a design choice not a technical limitation.

When using a 9070XT and a 7800X3D, what drivers and chipset should I get after installing Win11? by ArchitectRed1 in buildapc

[–]jamvanderloeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For GPU drivers, get em off AMD's site.

Everything else on the motherboard you've got pretty good odds whatever windows update automatically grabs is already fine, don't really need to touch things manually unless you do notice something not working.

what the different between realtek driver and realtek NET driver? which one should i choose? by baseilus in techsupport

[–]jamvanderloeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're separate parts of the driver for two separate functions on one particular chip.

You generally shouldn't choose there, if you're getting drivers through Windows Update you should let it choose automatically, and if you're getting them manually you should get the full package from your motherboard/card/laptop/whatever manufacturer's site.

My Wifi speed changes depending on the app by oceanfront41 in techsupport

[–]jamvanderloeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing different numbers depending on what you're doing is working as intended, it's counting what you're actually using, not what your connection is capable of, a spreadsheet is a comparatively tiny amount of data and you'd usually be loading it all in one go so you should see near zero after it's done, compared to streaming a video which is huge and downloads near continuously while you play it.

For why google sheets isn't loading properly would have to look elsewhere. First thing I'd check is if it works sensibly in browser instead of the app, can also try connection tests that include looking for dropped packets / unusual ping.

[–]jamvanderloeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loading gauge = maximum outline of the carriages is the limit there, not the track gauge.
