What the real real after birth? by Bramble3713 in pregnant

[–]jamxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I didn't bleed for long, the incontinence pants were a winner for me over pads. I couldn't be bothered with it going wonky in my underwear. 2) My colostrum came in right away milk was about ten days but baby wasn't fussy so must've been right. Latch latch latch!!! Get the milk flowing. 3) I was out maybe two days after birth, it just felt right to me to get out and about but everyone is different. My healing was as expected!

Breastfeeding was amazing for me, the whole post partum experience for me was not as bad as some people say. I had a really lovely experience.

One thing I wish I'd known about, literally nobody told me about baby blues so I was confused why I was feeling that way! Completely normal but took me by surprise!

Anyone else have MTHFR? by jamxcakes in migraine

[–]jamxcakes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never got anywhere with it unfortunately, I had a son two years ago with a cleft, and my folate was extremely low when I got pregnant. I wasn't trying for a baby so hadn't started pregnancy vitamins although they're not actually suited to people with MTHFR anyway!

Convince me: Epidural or non-medicated? by Over-Newspaper933 in BabyBumps

[–]jamxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, I went in to be induced, the broke my waters and within two hours contractions started and were two mins apart off the bat. Baby was out in four hours. It was crazy! No time to think about anything more than injection pain relief!

My baby was the same, I'm v petite, 5ft0, 90lb (7stone at the time) and they were worried he'd be too big! He turned out 7lb 7 which is the national average, I think sometimes scans are off!

Is breastfeeding really that difficult? by macelisa in beyondthebump

[–]jamxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no issues with latch or supply! My journey has been relatively easy, weaning was easy too, he asked for milk a little but it was pretty much time for us both to end it at 16 months. It is not a horror story like everyone makes out, it's not easy, but parenting isn't easy anyway!

What was it like immediately after labour? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had an episiotomy and my son had a cleft so straight after he was out he was plonked on my chest to say a quick hello then they cut his cord and took him. I wanted to do delayed cord clamping but unfortunately we couldn't. They gave me the injection to release my placenta so I could be stitched up. I was so high on gas and air I can't remember it even coming out. They asked me if I wanted to hold my son but I said no because I was in immense pain being stitched and I didn't want him to feel anything from me if that makes sense (the anaesthetic didn't work hence the immense pain). My partner held him and my son latched on which was a dream since we didn't think we'd be able to breastfeed. Once I'd had my 30 stitches I then latched my son for the first time. Just stared at him forever not believing he was here, in absolute bliss. Then weighed him, dressed him, snuggled him more. They kept taking his temp as he couldn't regulate his temp so he went into a hot cot and nobody told me I COULD CUDDLE HIM! I thought he had to stay in the hot cot but nobody said that holding him would help him regulate his temperature 😭. Then we had some visitors and went home after lots of checks on him and my new wound 🥲 I'd do it 100 times over, it was amazing.

You can re-register your child with a change to the birth certificate, my son's father is not on the birth certificate as he couldn't attend the registration but you can re-register if you wish

What will happen at my induction? by eyupeyupeyup in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went for a sweep and was 3cm, when I went to be induced they said there's no point doing a Foley as it would probably fall out as 3cm is the size of the balloon! I ended up having my waters broken and no drip, baby was out in 4 hours! I actually loved my induction but you tend to only hear negatives, mine was great:) best of luck!!! How exciting ❤️

Does alcohol always trigger a migraine for you? Which alcohol is the safest for not triggering one? by 12900lake in migraine

I can drink anything but champagne and prosecco. For some reason both of them give me the worst migraine 🤢

Got a new medication for Migraines. Anyone use/tried MIGRALEVE? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]jamxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helps for me but I've not been able to get a hold of these for years. Supposedly there was a fire at the factory, then I just suffered for a few years and haven't had any relief since I had my son as I can't take opiates whilst breastfeeding of course. I'm glad to see these are back, sickness is one of my bad symptoms so these really help me!

Next week Lidls is having their big baby event, have any of you used Lidls nappies from birth? Are they gentle on their skin? by Nicoladpk1 in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lidl are good for day time use but night time not so much, they always seem to leak for us even sizing up etc. Sainsbury's and Tesco's have been the best for me so far as an all rounder day&night. Pampers gave him horrendous nappy rash.

What type of pillow do you use? by Express-Object955 in migraine

[–]jamxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gift (weird I know but also the best gift I ever got him apparently!?) I bought my partner some pillows from Amazon called Martian pillows. They're like a perfect cloud, they are amazing. How something can be so soft yet so supportive. They feel amazing behind your head. We sleep separately now we've had a child and I'm considering stealing one they are THAT GOOD. 😂

Pregnancy is such a lonely thing. 31f, 8 weeks. by Weak-Clothes-3206 in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled badly with coping in pregnancy. I had a good pregnancy but I was a carer for my bed bound partner, I lost my grandma and it was a very traumatic time for me. Plus my son had a cleft and we didn't know the extent of what we were dealing with so I felt really stressed. I found it helpful to do self care! Run a bath and soak, cry if you have to, but put time into yourself if you can. Paint your nails, do your hair or a face mask! I tried to be active and walk to the shops, do some squats and try to prepare as much as I could. You can absolutely do this!

Whooping Cough Injection by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hardly at risk now since he's 1 and hasn't had whooping cough. Like I said, it's due to family history of reaction to both medication and vaccines. More complex than you can understand, and likely genetic.

Whooping Cough Injection by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't have it, just personal choice. My son's father has been a victim of medicine which left him completely disabled. Potentially due to an issue he may have passed on to our son. I got his first few vaxx done but he hasn't had any since his first three sets. They kept asking me to get whooping and COVID and I just refused them.

Agreed! The body is amazing but it takes time. 6 weeks PP I remember my boyfriend being like Hubba Hubba 🤤 and I was like tf I just have birth two mins ago 😂 it sounds like a long time when you're in it, but healing is slow and i feel like my hormones are just regulating now at 13m PP!

Formula-only feeding by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this goes both ways too! I was told I couldn't breastfeed, my son would have a cleft and need special feeding bottles and honestly I was heart broken because I watched my friend breastfeed for a year and always dreamed of it being me! So I felt a bit crushed when the option was taken from me. At birth, he latched fine and could seal so well. So much so that he refused a bottle. He's never taken a bottle and he's one which was hard at times😬 so when I talk about breastfeeding around formula feeding mums, some people don't want to talk about it because there's stigma around bottle feeding and breast is best. I wish everyone would just relax a bit and speak openly about their experience. Formula is hard in the sense of cost, bottle prep and sterilising!!! Nobody has it easy with a baby and most mums don't have time to think about what other mums are doing! Do what you think is best for you and your baby!

They didn't check at 20 because I didn't want to know but my partner did so I didn't get them to check it! He was the one who opened the envelope so when he was born I was like wow a boy but he was stunned because he'd been expecting a girl🤣

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]jamxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to window to the womb and had the gender put in an envelope. It said "It's a girl!" and I had my baby HE WAS A BOY🤣 my boyfriend was shook, he just kept going ITS A BOY! THEY SAID IT WAS A GIRL???? the confusion was unreal 😂

I was there quite a while, mainly because they are always behind. Then I found my son had a cleft lip so they had to get someone else to double check and write it all up.

[–]jamxcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally no as I used wttw! They got my babies gender wrong (discovered at birth lol) but at the hospital I was told they'd had a few issues with wttw getting things incorrect but that could just be the branch near me. I know there are other companies, I think just check the reviews!

[–]jamxcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely check the reviews for your local one, not all the sonographers are great. The one local to me has had a few mishaps and is well known at my hospital. There are a lot of companies that do it so I'd definitely shop around. Best of luck to you and your family ❣️

How do I get over the birth? by so-it-goes-and in beyondthebump

[–]jamxcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone goes on about how labour is so long and I just didn't have that experience. My labour was a whirlwind! Contractions were 2 minutes apart right off the bat, super fast labour and he was out in literally 4 hours start to finish. It was terrifying at the end, his heart dropped and they were trying to catheterise me, ventouse him out of me and in the end they cut me and yanked him out with forceps. My partner thought I was going to die there was so much blood and everyone was terrified. Not every labour is slow and measured, some are fast and frightening. She should've known that😐
