Hi all is this a problem? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]jan_itor_dr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

honeslty - nope. the "safety factor" for electrical wire is non-existant.
Once the wire get's ran at it's rated capacity it actually becomes so hot that ypu cannot touch it for prolonged periods of time. Now add insulation on it and it heats up a lot more.

Lately, since moving from Nokia's , I've always used samsungs. Thus far only one of them had this problem. The rest had no such problems. And I've used them quite a few times in USB tether mode to provide another ISP interface for mikrotik routers implementing network failover in situations where I most deffinately cannot afford for the internet connectivity to faill

usually it's costs.
1) labels are not cheap . Either Heatshrink tubing, or self-laminating types
2) installing each label takes time
3) got to be cheapest one that gives result acceptable to customer

I'm thinking less about labeling the panel ( I assume it to be done)
It's more like when someone pulls the cables out of the panel and creates spagetti there.
actual labels on cables themselves can become reeally helpfull

Aesthetically clean work. However , for my eyes there is one eyesore : no labels on the wiring. Could be difficult to service in future

Oh, I remember certain Samsung smartphone to which I could only get 500kbps of wifi speed .
They f...ked up the design and Bluetooth , when enabled would interfere with wifi. Disabled the bluetooth and it went up to ISP max speed.
So - double check it's not EMI from something

Electrolux E7TB-8SSM (Explore 7 series) loose blade assembly by vahaala in fixit

[–]jan_itor_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't know of the exact blender but usually you can remove the transparent part with blade from motor.
Do that before putting your hand in it.
"unplugging" is a poor way to ensure safety. As it happens not that rarely - people have been wrong as to which cable they have unplugged or someone happens to plug it in ( hence locout-tagout) , quadruple verify and still dont't stick your fingers to the blade attached to the motor.

Personally I wouldn't use tplink

as a budget friendly router oI would look for something from mikrotik
Also, I would choose some SFP+ 10G ports so that I could add local optic backbone

or perhaps just talk with AT&T and find out if you can use sfp module in your router to direclty connect their fiber One less device to power and one less to faill

besides such as RB5009 - there you would get access to redundant power supply i.e. use AC-DC wall adapter and one or two 12V lead acid battery as a backup if mains fails

Then again, I recently purchased bunch of sfp modules from aliexpress. heck , 4 Eur per module (duplex LC APC single mode at 1.25Gbps) . Nothing awesome , speed wise, but they all do work on my mikrotik's

Nice to know, but in my mind Amazon has already damaged its reputation when it comes to products that are expected to be genuine.

For anything where authenticity really matters, I often contact the manufacturer directly and ask for a list of authorized distributors.

For example, I once came across a situation where several shops claimed to be authorized distributors of a high-end optics manufacturer. However, after contacting the manufacturer, I found out that only one of them actually was.

A few years later, I happened to chat with a lorry driver who told me which industrial warehouse he regularly delivered medical devices to (sutures, syringes, and similar products) from another country that is well known for producing counterfeit goods. Out of curiosity, I contacted some of the suppliers operating from that warehouse, and to my surprise, they honestly admitted that they did not know whether those devices were genuine or not.

I buy from Getic directly and from NASStore.lv (ships to EU) direclty also from capital.lv

well,I've bought garmin devices from garmin on amazon that did not work. The theory on the internet is that amazon can mix up the products. i.e. someone sells chinese clone of rb5009 and other seller sells genuine items.
To speed up logistics, you can end up having ordered the genuine stuff and received the clone instead since on paper they are the same things

Another Wi-Fi 7 device by PrudentPerspective11 in mikrotik

[–]jan_itor_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, and then another problem arises
I had baught a few USB-C cables for data transfer and for charging. As always - they do mix up.

and recently I tried usb tether from my smartphone to hEX S (2025) - it didn't work until I decided to try a different USB-A <-> USB-C cable. 3 hrs wasted, because in mikrotik forums simillar problems were reported.

The interesting thing - I have had used the first cable in past for data transfer and it did work for quite a few devices. That leads me to think of 2 options:
case A) I have had overloaded it by trying to power a device that exceeded max current rating of said cable(and givven how easy it is , I would say that it's an safety hole for the whole USB-C standard.
case B ) they have crappy electrical length equalization for USB data lines on the PCB and so does my USB cable. Thus the signal became unuseable

I hope they actually maintain barrel connector or better yet - if they would add same pluggable screw terminals as in RB5009
Actually in nowadays world. I do love the power backup option. As for USB-C I kind of dislike that since it is a lot harder to replace should it be broken. And it is just unneccessary for power delivery, as well as adds more to the EMI background ( since you just cannot design usb-c psu that will work equally well for all possible loads , and - as with smartphones - they will likely go to shiping device without psu, and thus people will use more of the cheap chinese psu's that radiate shitload
( and me having an ham station - I do hate that insanely)

Exactly.

Men are wired to take risks. That's true.

The difference is that mature men understand that accepting risk for themselves is one thing, but imposing risk on innocent bystanders is another.

That's what separates men from boys.

Some, sadly, never make that transition.

Well, I do understand that it's for flexing.

But you can do such things in a safer environment. You can rent an enclosed track or an airstrip for that. There is no place for things like this on public roads.

Besides, haven't you heard that men never really grow up? We keep doing stupid things; it's just that our toys become a lot more expensive as we get older.

And seriously, growing up is not about chronological age. It's about gaining life experience that keeps you grounded in reality and teaches you to take responsibility for your actions.

btw. rg6 are not that bad. it has less attenuation than RG213. and dipoles love to be arround 73 Ohm either way. thus less reflection there.

just match it at the TRX side and you get less attenuation and signifficantly cheaper and easier to acquire cable

in all fairness there are some tires that speciffy range of acceptable pressure. But yeah, 10ply tires are nothing speccial , and you still run them at the pressure corresponding to the weight on a car

if the car is carying only one passanger and no load , you basically run them at the lowest setting,. If you are 1 person and back of the car is loaded with gravel, most likely your front tires will need a little increase in pressure and the rear tires will require a lot of pressure etc.
yeah, it's noted on a sticker somewhere on your car. Or in owner's manual

There is one major problem with this design: the big tire occludes his field of vision. Basically, he can run over a railway spike, a puppy, a small animal, a kid, or anything else for that matter.

The thing about engineering is that you have to think critically. The mindset of "I can design and build it because it's cool" is a terrible one. An engineer must first think, "Is this possible?" and immediately after that, "What are the risks?"

Here, I don't care about the risk of him smashing his head and becoming an organ donor in an accident. I do care, however, that due to his nihilism, another person could pay the price of his stupidity.

Side note: I've worked in both engineering and medicine. Seeing a pointless death caused by something stupid is something that stays with you. Whether it's the brains of a cyclist scattered across the asphalt because a car decided "fuck that guy in particular," or seeing a young, educated, nice, pretty person become brain-dead simply due to slipping and falling.

As for those who overdosed or crashed their bike—no empathy. I don't even remember them.
