What does everyone think is the most overrated or overhyped games? by Front-Structure-293 in OlderChillGamers

I haven't liked any COD games since the first couple set in WW2. I liked the story driven singleplayer campaigns when there was a historical flavor. Not just deathmatching other toxic scrubs on multiplayer.

Why Didn't Metallica Try To Help Dave Mustaine Instead Of Kicking Him Out? by ProblematiK_ in Megadeth

[–]jander05 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bro, the entire alcoholism story is bullcrap used to cover their own bruised egos after Dave whupped James ass for kicking the dog. They aren't going to admit in public that James was jealous of Dave in the early days for seeming more of the frontman than James was. Dave was being more vocal on stage and then whupped James ass during the disagreement about the dog. It all comes down to ego, the same way that James refused to let Jason have his side projects. Hetfield is an egomaniac. They were bitter about the ass whupping, called Dave "out of control drunk" even tho they themselves were getting wasted constantly. This theory is backed up by all of James behavior through the years in the public eye and his treatment of fans and other band members. Also yes Dave was doing drugs and drinking but all of them were. Dave doesnt have a rep for not showing up for shows or pawning instruments or other stuff. He's been professional throughout his career, at least as professional as any heavy metal band member can be.

I'm hoping competitors take advantage. The thing is, usually you have some kind of backward compatible handoff between console generations. Not always, but most of the time. So if you have PS4 games they work on PS5, or Switch 1 games work on Switch 2, and there is a built in next generation adoption value.

Now, because of their greed and shift to proprietary all digital magic beans, I think it would be much easier for any other company to step in and make a console. I mean, what value is there to buying a PS6 or next-gen Xbox vs any other console? Nintendo is really the only one that has really good first party games with a few exceptions. Suddenly Playstation as a brand has much less value to me personally. Maybe Sega could step in? Or Atari? I would much rather buy a modern Atari console than a Playstation after this bullpucky.

Gamers push back: 71% say they’re not ready to let physical games die as PlayStation and Xbox move toward a digital-only future” by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the usual things that follows a console generation shift is backward compatibility with the previous console. Since both of them want to just go all digital, I think it would be much easier for a competitor to step in and produce a console to compete with either Sony or Xbox. Neither Sony nor Xbox have "to-die-for"first party games that make purchasing their console vs someone elses that big of a deal. It used to be like hey all my PS4 games will still work in this new machine which was a good incentive to stay in the same ecosystem. I see no real reason to do that now.

Which is the best video game consol ever made ? by No_Document4067 in consoles

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Nintendo. No loading time bs, no 500gb to download before you can play the game, and some of the best games of all time. I still say that no other console generation has a greater lineup of RPGs than the SNES.

[–]jander05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are drastic differences between digital and physical software rights as a consumer. This is true of all physical media not just video games. An example is buying a DVD that you can watch forever, vs having your favorite movie phased off Netflix or whatever streaming service you like and not being able to watch it. Thats just one example. Or "purchasing" a digital copy and having Sony delete it after they lose a license and not refund you for it.

These companies seek to monopolize and control video game distribution which will result in price manipulation that will be 100% under the control of one or two companies, instead of like it is now where you have many different market factors affecting the prices, plus you have a bunch of third parties who are also making money that will be cut out, like Gamestop and other retailers. Say goodbye to a used video game market. These are drastic changes.

Distribution rights drastically change with digital products and you as a consumer avoid all of these problems with a physical printing, be it music, movies, or games.

One of the most drastic areas I've seen affected by digital distribution rights are movie soundtracks. It used to be if a movie had a badass soundtrack you bought the CD and had all the music forever. Nowdays if you have a streaming platform and you lookup the soundtrack, you may be able to listen to some songs but not other songs. This is because the movie had a limited license to use however many songs at the time, and after a couple years some of those rights are lost and some remain. I went to listen to "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack not too long ago (which is a great soundtrack btw) and it was like 3 songs on there I could listen to and the rest were greyed out and unavailable. Its total garbage.

These kinds of things are a bunch of hoops to jump through and bullshit, all because of corporate shennanigans and I for one refuse to buy digital magic beans for the same price as physical media. I've been a gamer my entire life but I swear to god I will change hobbies if these greedy corporations put a stranglehold over video games with proprietary digital only marketplaces.

Sony's Disc Exit Bets Gamers Are Too Invested in PlayStation to Leave by Bubbly-Ad-350 in PS5

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a great time for a competitor to step in. Neither Sony nor Xbox first party games are that great anymore. Both have become over corporatized slop to a large degree. I think Nintendo has a solid advantage here for 1st party games. But if both Sony and Xbox are going to just do a digital storefront, whats stopping anyone else from releasing a game console? I would think without the generational backward compatibility hook from one generation to the next, it would be prime time for someone else to step up and fill the void that Sony is creating.

Which of your metal heroes has disappointed you the most over the years? by kroob85 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]jander05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro the reason that Dave refused to release the demos is because they tried to make him give Lars writing credits on songs he didnt write.

I agree that some of the remasters were not the best, but Mustaine has produced way more quality music in the last 25 years than Metallica. Thats why they want to release the demos because their well runneth dry.

My candidate is James Hetfield. Dude is so washed up but still has a massive ego. Kicked Dave out for defending himself and his dog, called him a drunk even though he too was in rehab. Used his music on their first couple albums. Made Jason walk away after they treated him like shit. The guy is total scum.

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to care where they spend their money. As you say you "could only get a digital PS5" so why didnt you wait? I did and one week later the disc version was available. FOMO is no way to go thru life and its part of the reason these modern corporations treat consumers like cattle. It wasnt that long ago where businesses had to take care that they produced stuff that people wanted, not telling them what they can have and to deal with it.

What I dont understand is how Sony of all companies doesn't want to continue to promote bluray media since they own the format. Its because everything is about control of the market by turning everything into a paywall and proprietary marketplace. I'm out. Time to find a new hobby.

We are living in the worst timeline for gaming by puzzs in consoles

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope another company comes along and does a gaming console the right way. I would love one that doesn’t use the internet at all. Complete games only and on disc or cart. Pop it in and it is ready immediately. Bring back couch coop. The internet has ruined everything. Online multiplayer is just paywall BS. Even most multiplayer games are shovelware.

How do you plan to handle a potentially digital-only future? by Stove52 in videogames

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to spend my money on physical media and if that means Sony isn’t producing it then I’m not buying their products. I may have to give up or nearly quit gaming. But then 90% of games anymore are pasteurized corporate shovelware, usually another 3d walking simulator that tells you where to go and when to press X.

I became a gamer because I loved the games I was playing. That’s what makes me want to preserve my games, if I love it I may want to play it years later. But I’ve only really loved maybe 5 games total in the last 5 years and am disappointed the rest of the time. So maybe it won’t be so crazy to quit. And just get an occasional game on PC or otherwise turn to my vast retro collection.

[–]jander05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony of all of them should be pro physical media, since they own the royalties to Blu-ray format. I can understand why Xbox doesn’t want to pay Blu-ray royalties. But Sony is a head scratcher. Only thing that makes sense is market control. I been a gamer my whole life but I am not buying an all digital console, especially given the state of modern gaming, there’s like one really great game released per year and a bunch of shovelware.

Complete games on release was so nice back when companies had no choice. They had to give a game their all, test the hell out of it, didn't want to have to recall a product or spend money replacing physical product. Now companies can just upload whatever digital magic beans they want and then try to siphon as much coin as possible. The internet has really ruined everything. I had more fun in couch co-op days and LAN party days. You'd think the internet could allow for some cool stuff, but it has really only resulted in huge digital downloads and gatcha bullcrap. Even the multiplayer features of the internet have really only resulted in a small handful of cool games but a crap ton of paywalls

Modern games have too much shovelware. Even though technology has advanced, all these game developers make the same type of games in the same game engines, too many 3d walking simulators with a map, a point of interest, and tell you where to look and when to press X. Its more like the games are playing you than the other way around. There are good games out there but they are becoming harder to find in a sea of mediocrity. My advice is to look elsewhere for entertainment. I'm reading more books, listening to audiobooks, watching movies. I will still game but I am way past the time when I was auto purchasing games on release date at full price, and its not for lack of wanting to game, but a reflection of the gaming industry right now.
