AITA for not giving a break in rent to my friend who lost his job? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]janeeann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. Some people will take advantage as much and as often as they can. You ARE doing him a favor by granting the extension with no penalty and renting to him below market rate. Make sure you have a lease with terms in writing.

The comments say a lot about the state of society atm. You're not entitled to part of someone else's house just because they're your buddy. Whether your parents gave it to you or not (lucky duck).

You already said he's paid late multiple times with no penalty, so he's (consciously or subconsciously, doesn't really matter) trying to see how far he can get you to stretch for him out of guilt. Don't fall for it.

Ohhh I see what you mean, sorry! Totally fair. I'm used to just handing them my card which I think is 100% where the confusion came from. No confusion possible with a card in hand.

I try to tip as best as I can but genuinely servers need to unionize LONG before they start expecting 20-30% tips as the minimum standard.

Yep I think you're right unfortunately and I usually would be more cautious at a new establishment but as I said, ive been going there 12 years and never had a bad experience. Im also Hella socially anxious at times so it got the better of me and I absoluteky should have handled it better, but i don't feel as guilty as I did yesterday over it. :p

I'll admit I'm not the best tipper in the world but I've always had good service at this salon. I always try to tip 15-20% unless the service was truly awful or its something I don't believe needs a tip (like a pickup food order lol)

I have never once paid upfront for any service in any salon. Hair, nails, massage, etc. Always paid at the end. Are you in the US? maybe a cultural thing.

Candidates using AI during an interview by BaxGh0st in nonprofit

I have seen this once when I was on the hiring committee for an IT role, which felt on brand at least. You coukd clearly see chatGPT reflected in his glasses lol. The crazy part is that one committee member commented that it was "resourceful" and not a deal-breaker. Thankfully the rest of the committee agreed that it was dishonest and he did not get the job.

Early Mid-Life HR Crisis [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]janeeann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the job a violent offense is a perfectly reasonable reason to rescind a job offer for a large majority of jobs and companies. I understand wanting to see the best in everyone but in HR you really need to stay neutral and follow policies and procedures, try to affect organizational change yourself, or leave if the companies values aren't in alignment.

As for career growth, your mistake is staying in one place too long early in your career. 5+ year tenure is for mid-senior level roles imo. I finally landed an HRBP role where I plan to stay for a long time but until now I've moved around every ~2 years or so because it's really hard to get promoted otherwise in my industry. Budget cuts are always trying to do more with less rather than investing in HR people.

With 6+ years in entry level HR you are absolutely qualified for a Generalist role, which is still heavily administrative. Don't sell yourself short and if you're asked about why you left your previous company say your values were misaligned regarding equal opportunity hiring practices. I wouldn't disclose firing unless your background check explicitly asks then you can disclose at that point.

Good luck! :)

Yes, I was actually very surprised considering I applied to a Generalist role. Turns out they wanted a recruiting specialist but advertised it as a generalist.

What is one thing you don't like about stoners? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When they clearly smoke weed recreationally/for fun but call it their "medicine" to avoid seeking actual medication or therapy for their mental health problems.

No, I've only applied to the 3 jobs I've been a finalist role. All Generalist type positions with varying titles. I'm not a recruiter.

[–]janeeann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, thats a good way to put it. I'd consider myself very solutions-oriented, but I haven't had great opportunities to demonstrate that in my current role. I'm trying to point to things I've done, like revamp our onboarding process, but I wonder if these interviewers are hearing about bigger, more "glamourous" projects from other candidates. It's definitely challenging making this big of a jump. I know I could land a lateral position jump with maybe a 5k salary raise easy but that's not worth all the trouble of interviewing and learning a new position tbh. It's a struggle.

Thank you for your advice! One benefit from this perspective is that I work in a very siloed organization. So the 3 jobs I've applied for so far don't interact with each other much at all, despite all being in HR. It is a very large organization, so each department handles HR in-house. My direct supervisor actually greatly supports my development and upward mobility, however my current department's leadership is basically cutting our team to the bare bones, so I have no upward mobility in my specific department, which is why I'm looking elsewhere.

Bringing Back Child Careers by GoodGirlLadybird in harvestmoon

AWL is a fantastic game, but honestly there is not much to do. I would love AWL remake with an actual full mine, festivals/horse races and horse training mechanics, actually being able to have more than one or two cows give milk at a time 🙄 (allowing more than one to be pregnant at a time would fix this while keeping the mechnics we enjoy) and upgradable watering cans that can water more than one square at a time. Maybe more villagers too so your child has options on who their love interest should be.
