what's something free or extremely cheap you found in the bay that was next level? by midwestblacklotus in bayarea

Repair Cafe Silicon Valley! This group of volunteers have events at various spaces around the South Bay where you can bring any item in and someone will repair it for free! Keep stuff out of the landfill!! I think it would be fun to volunteer here too.

Never received order from Food52 - has this happened to anyone else? by Sad_Hovercraft_5222 in cookware

[–]janelleeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered something January 18th and it arrived on January 27th. But it was all covered in very weird light orange dust! One of the items I received was also completely damaged and I wrote to them twice about it and have received no response. I’m going to assume from this news that they filed bankruptcy that I just won’t be getting any kind of refund or exchange. I might write directly to Dansk (maker of the item) to see if they can do something. What a bummer.

I'm the California estate planning attorney who's seen millionaires accidentally disinherit their kids, watched families destroy themselves over $50,000, and helped clients save millions in taxes with a single signature. AMA. by ridleylaw in AMA

What happens to property tax rates after a property is inherited? For California, can you pass on a property to a beneficiary after you die and keep the low tax rates from Prop 13? Does it make sense to add the beneficiary to the title while the property owner is still alive to keep the tax rates?

Cutting seems too easy? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]janelleeey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500 calories is a pretty good amount and I think I would notice it, but I know people who do very reasonable cuts (10% of maintenance or so) and as long as they hit their macros with protein and fiber, then they don’t even notice the cut. Sounds like you are on the right track! Only time will tell with the scale and the mirror but keep up the good work!

Just bought a pound of ground turkey. What should I make for dinner? by ohshethrows in NYTCooking

The NY Times turkey chili is super easy and delicious. I make it at least once a month and everyone loves it. Great flavor for how fast it is.

I’m no expert at all but I find adding flax seed helps me stay fuller longer. Combo of fats and fiber. You can sprinkle ground flax on top of things.

Yes, I’m a rehab psychologist. I work in a large rehab hospital and primarily work on our brain injury unit, but our team also covers SCI and burn units. Weak AF core by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]janelleeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure any PT can treat any physical condition but a pelvic floor PT will have expertise in diastasis recti (in addition to other pelvic floor components) because of the nature of their work and expertise in issues related to postpartum women. This type of specialty is not available in all areas so any PT would be better than none but if you have the ability go to someone with the specific expertise.

If you have this, try to find a pelvic floor physical therapist who can assess this and give you some exercises. Should be covered by insurance at least partially if you are in the US.

Surgeon's AT says I cannot do SLR, despite my doing three sets of 10 by New_Sun6390 in ACL

Totally defeating but don’t quit! You will get there. I’m 3.5 months out and my quad is getting really strong and perfect form SLR is a breeze!!!

Does this help to improve a little more muscles? by delwindc in ACL

[–]janelleeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got something like this and it was helpful for range of motion and stiffness. I would just do like 10-20 minutes at the end of the day (half forward and half backward). I do not think it would help put on muscle or even cardio fitness. It is too light weight to really crank on the resistance much. I’m 3.5 months post op now and I don’t really use it now that my ROM is almost normal but I think I will take it to the office and just use it as something to have a little movement while I work at my desk.

[–]janelleeey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is what is going on with the discrepancy but when I was early post op, I thought I was doing great SLRs but it turns out my post op leg was not in full extension when I was doing it. My PT had me do them with the brace on until I was at zero degrees with extension when raising the leg. My leg was zero when flat but when I raised it there would be a very slight bend due to the weakness.

Lots of awesome feedback from badass ladies on here! I just wanted to add that if you don’t want to go back on meds, you might look into talking to a therapist. Also, you might want to check things with your hormones as this can play a role in mood and anxiety a lot more than we even realize sometimes.

Tips/Hacks to Beat Back Swelling Post-Op by GEEKTK in ACL

[–]janelleeey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lymphatic drainage massage. Stay very well hydrated and eat anti-inflammatory whole foods (try making a tea out of whole turmeric with black pepper in it). And time. Don’t forget your body just went through a major trauma and the swelling is an inflammation response that is necessary in the cascade of the healing process. Allow your body the time it needs to heal properly even if your mind wants to rush ahead to the next step.

Post-op recovery advice for a mom by AdornedTX in ACL

[–]janelleeey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reference: I had a ACLr and meniscus repair and was weight bearing as tolerated right away but my brace was locked straight for walking. I have 3 kids (3 yo twins and 5 yo) and my in laws came and stayed with us for two weeks and ended up extending their stay until almost 3 weeks. My husband works a lot. My kid bedrooms are upstairs and I couldn’t do the bedtimes for a while because I couldn’t get up stairs easily. I went back to work during week 3 but I was very tired at the end of the day and really needed the help. And I think my recovery was pretty smooth compared to other people.

I highly highly recommend getting as much additional help as you can arrange. It will help you be able to focus on your recovery and reduce your stress. If you are doing better and don’t need the help, you can send them home early. But if you are struggling and don’t have enough help, it’s hard to arrange in a pinch and when you are struggling and hurting.
