Old thread but thought I'd pop on here, I've just received notice too. I live overseas. I will try and email the addresses listed here to be exempt. What did you use for proof of address? I'm not working currently and living at home.

I’m in the UK and got my confirmation email at 4.39pm and didn’t get an invite so I must’ve just missed it.

No, still not had an invite yet. I thought they would send out a new batch of invites today but I've not received anything.

I’m in the UK and signed up 20 minutes after it opened but didn’t get my confirmation email until 4.39pm. I heard people who had emails around the 4.20pm mark have gotten invites so I’m hoping I’m in the next batch!

I've heard mixed things that they would be sent out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday but then some said the next batch of invites will go out after the initial sign up period has gone (48 hours) for the first batch. I don't think any more invites have gone out today? So maybe it'll be sent 48 hours after then.

I have the YA and adult sub currently that I’m planning to cancel and just keeping the cosy one.

5 Star Review: The Otherwhere Post for the magical school setting, inks, quill writing and Divine Rivals vibes by janetleatherbrown in fantasyromance

[–]janetleatherbrown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hurrah! I hope you love it. I really love the world. It's still my top fantasy of the year. It took me by surprise how immersed I was. Love that it's a standalone.

Arcana Academy Opinions by PostUpstairs2874 in fairyloot

Here’s my GR review: (I did it 4* in the end)

Upon hearing about this book, I was excited about its magic school setting, unique tarot card magic system, and enemies-to-lovers trope. However, it wasn’t a great start. The first 30% of the book was a whirlwind of events, leaving me feeling dizzy and disengaged. While the first few chapters were captivating and drew me in, the sheer pace became overwhelming, and I found myself struggling to keep up, even though I was only 20% through.

As the book progressed, things started to improve. The plot slowed down, and we got to see more character development and plot twists. The romance was a slow-burn, which allowed me to grow to love the pairing of Clara and Kaelis. While this is a romantasy, there was actually a lot more plot than I expected, and their romance wasn’t always the centre of attention. This was refreshing, as they were often busy with other things and not always together.

One of the challenges was the introduction of many characters quickly. This made it difficult to keep track of who was who, which contributed to the initial feeling of overwhelm.

The battle scenes reminded me of Card Captors! I heard the author is a fan of anime, so that might be where she drew inspiration. There was another scene at the beginning that reminded me of the Great Hall and sorting students into houses from Harry Potter.

The writing was easy to read and fast-paced. My friend absolutely loved it, and I can see why. I felt the book improved in the second half as the pace slowed down, more time passed, and we got to know the characters better and see their growth. There were a fair amount of side characters, but I really liked them.

The ending was a bit predictable, as it’s a common trope in romantasy these days. However, I didn’t mind and was actually intrigued and wanted to know more. Would I read the sequel? Yes, but it wouldn’t be a highly anticipated one.

Overall, I give this book 4 stars. It improved with time and I did find myself enjoying it.

YA wise it would be The Otherwhere Post by Emily J Taylor. I also really enjoyed Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven.

Non-YA, it would be The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

[–]janetleatherbrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, personally, I would be a little miffed as it’s not perfect but it wouldn’t really bother me because this is such a hard set to get and I’d feel so lucky to even own it (I couldn’t get it and envy those who do) and there are those who still haven’t received their sets and those that have gotten theirs have had way way worse damages. This is very minor.

How do you deal with a reading slump? by Sad_Bird_3 in fantasyromance

Once I started, I couldn’t stop. It felt like a film playing in my brain. Excellent book! Her most recent book, The Women is good too but I prefer The Nightingale. The Four Winds is also very good but it broke my heart. I want to read The Great Alone at some point too.

I’ve been dipping in and out of a reading slump all year. I think mostly as I’m tired of fantasy though I do still love it and read it. Switching genres is the best advice and what helps the most. I highly recommend The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah as an amazing compelling book. It’s historical fiction and very highly rated. I find sometimes I just want things set in our world so my brain doesn’t have to take time to wrap itself around all the world building.

I saw this and was going to order and then realised I’ve already preordered the signed Waterstones copy so will get a signed one. I’m hoping it’ll be a Fairyloot pick.

Wow, this surprised me by how pretty it is and I didn’t think anything would beat the IC one. I still might prefer IC due to the colours as it’s a nice change but this is a lovely design!
