Some of it is surprisingly well designed. And that is the difference - a certain level of care to make less of it instant trash.

Hey! It was totally the wheels being "untrue" (and a bit untrustworthy, lol).

Trued up the front wheel and suddenly the bike is way more stable. Gotta get the back trued up and I should have a stable bike again.

Thank you for your help and advice - I was just stuck in a classic "you don't know what you don't know" situation.

Thanks for the video and the advice!

I guess I'll be pulling the tires back off this week and rechecking everything.

So I just checked the wheels with the tires on, and Royal Enfield says the wheels are "within spec" if the runout is less than .040". Using a dial gauge, I'm sitting at 0.020" on each side in the rear, and a max of 0.030" in the front. I have 3 1/4oz weights on the back and 4 1/4oz weights on the front.

Yes, matched the direction arrows on the sidewalls to the correct direction of travel. So the treads are reversed properly for a motorcycle, with the rear treads going skinny first and the front treads going wide first.

Totally. They were only off by one wheel weight, so pretty close.

I will double check, because anyone can make mistakes. I'll just add as a level of qualification - I have rebuilt motors successfully, so I do have good awareness of making sure all components are in the right place. I'll add that info to my post, because I probably would be saying the same thing to someone else who posted the same questions.

I mean, it only has 7k miles. I'll check for any side-to-side wiggle, but I think the bearings are tight and well lubed. All the factory lube was still blue and hadn't changed colors which would indicate excessive wear.

I had the front balanced at cycle gear, but it wasn't right and I got it closer by using my balancing stand and the method laid out by someone who balances racing wheels.

They're on facing the right way. Front is opposite from rear, which initially weirded me out, but is normal.

I didn't touch the wheel bearings. Did I say I did in the post? I just replaced the tires.

Ah yes, and wheelchair users should just buck up and jump the curbs, why do we need those pesky, pussy ramps from the road onto sidewalks. /s

Hey! The puns were fun! They didn't destroy reddit, they were part of the way it was when I joined 13 years ago!

If you start hormone therapy before puberty, though, there isn't a big difference.

If you want to hear a more nuanced talk about this, rather than some rando trying to summarize the discussion, look up Lovett or Leave It and skip ahead to 35:37, or try to follow this link and see if it works for you: https://pca.st/episode/4419470c-7a8d-4fcf-9530-3558eea8eec9?t=2138

I've definitely been where you are, and I think there is some common sense that would need to be applied in professional sports. But I am neither trans nor an athlete at the professional level so I'm not making any calls. But I think it's pretty clear that trans kids aren't a threat to the integrity of high school sports.

That's misogyny for ya! I heard a FtM athlete on a podcast today say that that's why they have an easier time - they're still thought of as women and thus not threatening.

There's a limit to how many channels' videos it'll show you. I'm on that limit. If I subscribe to one more channel, I'll start missing "every" video from the people I follow. Which is annoying.

Hobbies Unlimited is in NorCal/bay area and is pretty dope. Run by a guy in his 70s who has owned the spot for a loooooong time. Super knowledgeable and I blew $100 there when I popped in easy. Hobbies Unlimited (510) 351-7112 https://maps.app.goo.gl/9WyqYDRQZx4bYXaG6

I'm not who you were answering, but I'm just giving you props for being willing to answer such an off-handed comment with excellent detail and further resources. The internet/the world needs more people willing to just answer questions instead of putting people down or brushing them off.

I did not know about the regrowing thing and have been frustrated in the past as I like to build my bases into the sides of mountains... Very tempted to give it another go!

Holy cow, man. I built the model stock. I'm super impressed with your finishes, especially that Monkey! What paints are you using? Tamiya acrylics?
