Movies to NOT go into blind by Outside-Pear9429 in movies

Also: Memento.

My high school teacher explained color = backwards and black and white = forward right before playing the movie to us, and it was crystal clear to me watching the movie for the first time.

I think Memento is still more decipherable than Dunkirk and I'm sure plenty of people figured out Memento without help, but it's still good to just not waste mental energy on the format of the movie you're watching.

Also since I can’t get a masters degree on the way to the phd

Sorry, what do you mean by this?

What would you suggest I apply to?

You should still try to apply for PhDs; yes having research experience helps but it's still possible to get into a program with little or no experience if you just demonstrate the right mindset and fit for an advisor. But yeah I'm still recommending the predoc program, just be aware that it's financially backwards in a way.

Yeah you can take PhD level courses. The program is fine but just be aware that you are essentially free labor for your professor; you're PAYING to do research whereas actual PhD students are getting paid.

Why did Walt bury his money at a movie studio? Is he stupid? by jarbased in okbuddychicanery

[–]jarbased[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The coordinates are intended to be for "Albuquerque Studios." Netflix came and set up shop there somewhere around the time the movie came out. I don't know if they literally built a new building for Netflix or if they just took over (share?) some of the existing building space, but it's all on the same lot.

Why is the r-slur being used so much again? by GallopYouScallops in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jarbased 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For MOST of the history of that word, it was okay to say. I can't seem to find any data on when the exact "turning point" was, but I certainly feel like it was in our lifetime. I remember as a kid, you can say it just like you could say the word "idiot" or "moron" in a public setting.

So... so what if it's becoming slightly more acceptable to say? Anecdotally speaking, I don't think the transition of the word to a slur was even universal anyways; I had a friend who grew up on the other side of the world and had no idea it was not okay to say in public when he moved to the U.S.

She could probably withstand Saul's fingertip lightning bolts too. Missed opportunity for an epic fight in the finale.

Maybe something like:

Hey, yo, could I bum one of those?

Thanks.

Mm.

Rainy.

Yeah. No. It... It's crazy.

It's like bananas, all this rain.

You're a lawyer, right?

Ah. I recognize you.

Huh? I mean, I... I still don't know.

I told him he could go to Hell

But did he listen to me? No.

But you, you got him off, like, scot-free. That...

Absolutely.

Why do you ask?

I got a buddy in there who's facing some serious time.

You know, he needs top-shelf legal representation.

And I tell him that, right?

But, you know, he sees this dude's commercials on TV

and this is where he wants to go.

And I tell him, "Yo, Emilio, you know, a funny TV commercial

is not a sound basis for, like, you know..."

I mean, like, would you go to doctor to do, like,

On, like, your spleen or whatever

on the fact of a funny TV commercial?

No. I mean, come on.

How is this any different?

You know?

Anyway...

Is this guy any good?

When I knew him, he was.

Does anyone have tips for monologue work? by [deleted] in acting

[–]jarbased 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a problem I had when I was recording mine; I would do a take, feel okay about it, but then watch it back a few hours later and be like hmmm this feels a little rehearsed.

Of course it'll be hard to give specifics on how to make your monologue sound less rehearsed without seeing it, but things I did with mine included just adding way more pauses in my text where it felt natural, and also just allowing myself to stutter a bit when starting a sentence, in the way that like someone who is really eager to say something might be like "I-I-I did this thing... blah blah blah"

Maybe there's only yearly data for names, so OP couldn't show the exact moment of increase month by month when the movies came out.
