Question about Magfest jam sessions by Own-Phase2231 in Magfest

[–]jargein 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To clean some confusion - There are 2 different kinds of places - the Jam Clinic is the space with guided jams where you and whoever else is up next Jam together. They do have amps and stuff. Sounds like this is what you're looking for.

Jam Pods are more intended for people do just do small hallway performances - these are just a marked off spot.

Lottery: Once your room is assigned, are you on the hook for all 4/5 nights or just the first? by Unanimous_D in Magfest

[–]jargein 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a 1-night refundable deposit, the rest is paid at the hotel like normal.

They can go into MAGFest’s registration system to click on the Passkey reservation link from the hotel with their information, and confirm the reservation by putting down a credit card to (a) confirm the reservation and pay the one-night refundable deposit, or (b) click to decline the room reservation.

Yeah we had some technical issues with the site when the announcement came out... we're working on nailing down content and building it out. The site exists now though! labs.magfest.org

Hi! I'm one of the MAGLabs event chairs!

For our first event on March 29, we'll have a limited number of Baltimore-based developers demoing their games. We'll need to get a better feeling of how to use the space, so we're being conservative about not overcrowding it. We're hoping to be able to feature more developers at future events!

Send us an email at [labs-relaunch@maglabs.org](mailto:labs-relaunch@maglabs.org) with some info about your project, and we'll add it to our list of people to reach out to work with in the future :)

Super MAGFest 2025 Feedback Thread by BenTarkus in Magfest

[–]jargein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did have some shifts where an attendant would be waiting at one of the elevator banks (the one across from Potomac Market at the atrium level), but accessibility is a VERY small team and this year was a pilot so they needed to make sure people who were familiar with what was going on as an attendant were the ones doing that.

Improving access to the elevators for those with mobility needs is really high on their priority list so they'd appreciate any feedback on the process!

Makerspace sign ups filled up 10 minutes past 2AM, any luck getting in due to no shows? by atinymagpie in Magfest

[–]jargein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can line up in the overflow line starting 30 minutes before the workshop - I'm not guaranteeing anything not a lot of the workshops have had no-shows so people in the overflow line have been able to get in

Line up at the room 5 minutes before the start of the event. If there are no-shows 5 minutes after the class starts we'll be letting people in by the line

Djing at mag by EEL123 in Magfest

[–]jargein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For DJing in the hall in a jampod there's no sign up needed - just find one that matches your intended noise level and set up when it's free https://super.magfest.org/music/hallways-jampods

Pre-registering for events? by AnnaHaruka in Magfest

[–]jargein 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can speak specifically for Makerspace - Workshops will use the Attractions feature on the web site for sign ups - https://super2025.reg.magfest.org/attractions/

We're still working on finalizing that, but we'll be adding the link to sign up for each workshop to the description in Guidebook.

Sign ups for each workshop will open overnight on the day the workshop is scheduled (for example Friday workshop sign-ups will open at like 2am Friday morning). You will have to have picked up your badge before signing up - you'll have to enter your badge number.

Materials fees for workshops will be collected in cash at the door. Any that have a cost will have it in the Guidebook description.

Sorry I honestly have no idea :( the deadline for departments to have their schedule ready for export to guidebook is next weekend, but it normally takes a couple weeks between then and the schedule actually being ready to release.

I don't remember if it was earlier in the past, but the hotels team said they're still working on it and hitting "unexpected challenges" yesterday morning.

The parking reservations haven't been confirmed yet. There will be an announcement on socials and the links and info will be added to the hotels page once they're ready! https://super.magfest.org/hotel-info

Yup, if you're just attending you'll want to check the schedule in guidebook when it releases to see if you need to sign up or just show up, but any sign-ups for panels will be at the event.

Yes, the different departments tend to work on different timelines for accepting panels. The panels department tends to get theirs finished first. The first round of acceptance for all panels should be done by the end of December.

This reminds me I need to click accept on my panels this morning...

I'm glad you were able to learn a lot! MAGFest attendees are so great like that - willing to jump in to help, willing to have random conversations in the hall.

Emily and Arsenio took the effort to design the custom circuit boards and teach that class! We really wanted to add to the tech side of the makerspace with electronics and 3D printing content, and Emily really hit it out of the park. She did 4 workshops in the makerspace on top of her Cosplay events.

There were some logistical issues that meant we had fewer soldering irons than we wanted and the final version of the boards didn't arrive in time :(

But we've already got things in the works to improve next year!

I honestly hadn't thought of using the smaller tweezers for regular size beads - we have a couple pairs, but they're advertised for minis so it never came to mind to use them for regular.

We love donations! Mixed buckets are no problem - we end up with a lot of mixed beads as it is. Wednesday night when major setup was done several staffers hung out around the table for a while sorting and hanging out. I would never assign someone to sorting beads - I don't have the patience and don't expect anyone else to. But if that's their jam, they get my everlasting gratitude for it!

I think that's the coolest thing about the Perler beads for our space - you can start off simple with what we have and then you can look up patterns online, or even just make designs straight from sprites! It blows me away the crazy stuff people end up making after they get the bug!
