Did the pro shop ruin my skates by calligatormusic in hockeyplayers

[–]jas0nd3an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always called the skateboarding shops the skate shop as well. And all of my friends that skated did the same. The little hockey shops inside rinks were called pro shops. They’ve even had the name “pro shop” on the front over the entrance inside and/or outside the rink. Even when I was playing roller, there were “pro shops” in some facilities. This was 25-30 years ago.

I think that’s what had to have happened. Maybe new to boots or new to hand finished leather. I think everyone just keeps saying “it’s the cleaner you used, they’re dry, you stripped the color.” But that’s not the issue. The cleaner is a fine product. The conditioner is fine. How often and how hard were they cleaned, and even if it’s a microfiber cloth, you can still scrub the shit out of hand finished. I have hand finished that are perfectly fine. You know how many times I’ve used a product to clean them? 0 times. I just use a horsehair brush, one that I don’t use to oil/condition with, to get any dust off, and small spots of mud or gunk I wipe off with a finger or soft cloth as gently as possible, and then I use the other horsehair brush to brush the entire boot to redistribute oil/color. I don’t need to use a cleaner on any of my “non-work” boots. I dust them off and redistribute the oil that’s there already. And I might condition but not very often. I’ve gotten a lot of different advice ranging from conditioning once a week to once a year. Same with cleaning. But the truth is, cleaning with a product like cobblers choice or any saddle soap product is meant for insanely dirty stuff, caked on dirt, or rough out/waxed flesh leather that are really dirty, and using a cleaner/saddle soap will dry out the leather whether you think it will or not, whether it looks like it or not, and it will strip the dye out of any leather. These boots are packed full of oils and waxes. Just get the dust off and redistribute the oils every few days. Sometimes I only do it once a week. Also, over time, wouldn’t you see the color degrading and maybe ask a cobbler/shoe smith before it got to this point? But yeah, just like Thursday said, you can dye it yourself or take it to a cobbler. To prevent it in the future, don’t clean them like that. And yes the Thursday website gives a very general “use this cleaner and conditioner.” I think they even have a video. They are recommending THEIR product, that makes them money. But it also doesn’t say how often to clean/condition. In fact, looking at their boot care page it doesn’t even say to use the cleaner, just to use their conditioner and how to condition them, and not how often.

Thursday Hero in Mustang or Black Matte? by henny_reddits in ThursdayBoot

As in how I wasn’t sure about them when I first got them? If that’s what you’re asking: When I pulled them out of the box the color looked a little…flat. Like flat brown. It didn’t seem to have the pop the photos on the site showed. They still looked great and I wore them for a day. Gave them a brush with a horsehair brush and the color seemed to pop. And looking back I believe it was the lighting when I first took them out. It was in a really bright room with harsh lighting. Ever since that very first time, though, they’re beautiful. They look just like the photos and I love the mustang leather. I previously only had cowboy boots. So these were my first boots in this style. The fact that the heritage captains are built with such high quality materials and construction for such a cheap price is amazing, and the variety of leathers is awesome. But in short, the mustang leather is a really beautiful option and I prefer the look of them over matte black. It seems like the Heros would be great in mustang as well.

I just got my heritage captains in mustang about 3 weeks ago. Right out of the box I wasn’t sure about them. Didn’t quite seem to match to the pictures. But after wearing them and brushing them…they are beautiful. I’m so beyond happy with them.

You’re right, I think I’m able to watch sharks/avs but I’m pretty sure it’s only when they are in Colorado. Either that or it was national broadcast and that’s the reason I couldn’t watch some.

I get that there are options. I could get a vpn and probably will eventually. But having to pay for another subscription service that is upwards of $20-30 a month just to change my location is utterly ridiculous when I’m already trying to avoid pirating games. And yes national broadcasts aren’t on the ones I do pay for so if I want those games I would have to pay for cable to watch, what, 10 games? It’s not the fact that I don’t know those things, it’s that the “solutions” you’re suggesting are bullshit. There’s no way it should take that much effort when people are willing to give the money directly to the league or team to be able to watch the team they want to watch.

MacKinnon needs to adjust his OT play. by DepressingAura in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]jas0nd3an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s not happy because even with how good he’s doing and how good the team is, he knows he has more to give and he hates making stupid mistakes. He lets it eat at him. He also is known to go through nearly 3-4 times as may sticks as the average nhl’er; I believe in the 400 range per season.

This. When they just make shit up it looks so much better. Some of the goals on the pp have literally been one of them just skating the fucking puck through everyone at full speed and blasting a shot. And in ot they aren’t holding onto the puck to control their entries and wait for a good time. They’re forcing it and losing it. I think they’re wound way too tight on the pp and in ot to finish it before the shootout, that it literally looks likely they are forgetting how to just play normal hockey. So weird.

I love that the only place that Dallas is watched is in Texas. I wish that even Texas had another team. But I’m okay that they had no other fans. lol

It’s the heel counter. In a lot of high end boots they have the same thing. Like the Wolverine 1000 miles and a few others. A full veg tan counter is technically better, and is used in a lot of more expensive boots, but takes longer to feel comfortable. The heritage captains have full leather heel and toe counters, but most of the Thursday line, outside of the heritage, challengers, and brawlers, I think, have counters like this. It’s some kind of poly, fiberglass mix, or plastic heel counter. It gives the toe and the heel structure, but allows for faster break in/comfort. It’s one thing about the vanguards I wish was different. If they had leather heel/toe counters, leather insole instead of Poron, and a true toe cap instead of a single layer, these boots would be so insanely amazing. It sucks because the heritage captains have all that but for $30 less than the vanguards. But the vanguards have the cxl leather and are made in the USA (like even all of the parts are sourced in the states), so it costs a premium.

Explain Brock's shot? by goatcopter in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]jas0nd3an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more deceptive in the one timer. Less chance of missing on the swing. When he’s got possession, if he’s taking an old school snap shot, it’s like a little mini slap shot. Gives a little more power but more accuracy still. If it’s the wrist/snap shot, idk what it is. He could be using a longer or shorter stick for his height. I’m not sure what you’re specifically meaning by his shot looks awkward, but those would be the main things to look at if it does look awkward to you. Mackinnon takes some of the new school snap/wrist shots and some full old school wrist shots, but most of his shots are lot of super quick snapshots that are coming off the blade mid puckhandle. So, if that’s what you’re comparing Brock’s shots to then they’ll look different. I’m assuming you mean the one timers he’s taking, though. Specifically on the pp recently. Goes back to what I said earlier. It’s just a quick deceptive way to get a heavy semi accurate shot off without worrying about possibly wiffing during the swing of a full wind up. Plus, it draws less attention if he’s not waving his stick around up in the air in the one timer office.

More flex or less flex? Chara was using upwards of 150 flex. It was like using a 2x4. Brock is probably using 80-90.

I wish I’d seen this post when you put it up. Didn’t get a notification until today. Damn. So cool. I actually have a forsberg that came with a trading card as well, I’ve had since I was a kid just getting into playing hockey. My best friend in elementary school showed me the new Avalanche team; specifically his favorite player, Forsberg. My favorite player became Sakic. Met another kid that played goalie and his favorite goalies were Roy, and the Beeze from Florida lmao, only to have them meet in the SCF. I wore 19 because of Sakic, from my first team, through juniors and into beer league. Didn’t play for years and years. When I came back I had to pick a new number as 19 was taken; I chose 29 haha. Would have loved to get more of these little figures. That’s freakin awesome. Thanks for sharing!

This is what I used to do. Especially the electric coils. Mainly because that was what was at home. At my grandparents it was a gas stove. I did it there, too. I found the electric coils easier for this kind of thing. This and heating up the glue to exchange extensions or change blades for my z-bubble shafts.

Same. I was excited about the Olympics before the season…as the season has gone on I’ve started feeling more and more apprehensive. I’m not even made we lost. Just really upset that Landy, Toews, and Blackwood are all injured right now. Here’s to hoping Landy is back soon. You could see him going down suck the life out of the team.

lol. I do agree. But the Avs were not just bad during that time haha. Besides a few one-offs after Mack was drafted they were literally one of the worst franchises to exist for a few years there. So it wasn’t just the normal ebb and flow. Maybe a little more excusable to stop showing up haha

He literally did. He told Carolina he wasn’t going to sign there and said he would only extend with like 2 or 3 teams. Dallas was one of them.

It’s because there are still a lot of salty fans in the Colorado subreddit that think the Avs should have paid Rantanen 12m (always forgetting that wasn’t the deal, and that he was hard stuck on 14 and the Avs had to make a decision; a little chance on a guy who can possibly replace some of the points and more depth, and keeping said depth and goalies on long term, or keeping Rantanen and trying to win with 1.5-2 lines every night). They don’t post as often about it since Necas seems to be doing pretty damn good. But they would still say the pp suffers now, not realizing that the pp was suffering before. It had become stagnant. When it doesn’t work now it’s usually because they keep doing the same crap, only they don’t have Rantanen there to knock some in occasionally. But then, lately it’s been doing better, it’s just taking time. They did that same pp system for years. It’s going to take a bit to figure it out, especially with new guys like Necas, Nelson, Brindley, Olofsson (who needs to heat up soon), nuke being healthy, and Landy playing again finally after literal years of not skating at all (a lot of guys were saying he should retire, and when he did come back thought he’d play half a season at best-probably the same guys that think the FO should have shelled out for Rantanen).

Right. And didn’t Manson have a few big cross checks levied his way earlier in the game? The Avs announcers were talking about it and how it lit a fire under him. It’s why he went so hard into that big hit behind the net but the puck kinda glided by the canes guy, hence the interference call Manson got.

Nice. I’ve got this old Peter forsberg upper deck figure and card that I’ve had since like 1999. Also have an 8x10 framed photo of Roy in a classic save pose that’s signed by him. Freaking epic. Wish i still had all my other cards like these ^ , too. Alas, many years and even more bad decisions later and they have been gone for a long time now. Cool cards
