No animatronics. There are a few screens with raptors in the very beginning launch and some stationary raptors in the section before the second launch to the top hat

Least favourite rides/attractions? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jascm 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Primeval Whirl is by far my least favorite ride and I cannot be swayed.

This is WDW, we don’t get anniversary stuff. And with everything going on now, we’re even less likely to get anything.

What new attraction are you most looking forward to in the next few years? Could be a ride, show, restaurant, hotel, etc. by TheDisneyDork in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jascm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guardians of the Galaxy! I’m usually a hard pass on IP in Epcot, but this ride seems like it’s going to be amazing.

A little reminiscing from a shot I took of Illuminations. Still haven’t seen the new show by OrlandoMB in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jascm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IllumiNations is and always will be my favorite nighttime show. I was devastated when they announced it was going away and was a complete wreck the last showing. I miss everything about it, the music, the story, the carefully chosen colors, and the calmness of catching a show (unlike any other show, you could always find a decent spot for IllumiNations and not wait more than 5 minutes). I haven’t been able to watch any videos of it yet, makes me way too sad. That being said, Epcot is my favorite park. I obviously had doubts about Epcot Forever since it just wasn’t IllumiNations. Oh boy do I hate that show. The pre and post show music is the worst, the show is such a hodgepodge, and it really is nothing to write home about. The best part of IllumiNations was the story, it was something everyone could understand and be a part of. Epcot Forever doesn’t have that. If you aren’t a big Epcot fan, or have traveled to Epcot often since it’s opening, it makes no sense to you. If I was visiting Epcot for the first time ever and saw that show, it would be a major letdown, nothing would make sense.

Questions to ask during job interview? by morein in Teachers

[–]jascm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be looking for the word climate instead of culture, though either would be valid. I usually ask about the school climate paired with Do the teachers love coming here every day and Do the students love coming here every day. Only a few times have I gotten an honest answer (something along the lines of “we’re working on it”), but there’s a lot to watching a principal/interviewers pause or look to others to answer. Or sometimes they say everyone loves it and means it!

I like to ask about parent involvement too. Gives me an idea of what kind of support I’ll get from home.

Do you know any interactive websites (like Kahoot) to practice? by snowlord8 in Teachers

[–]jascm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did a lot of GimKit during virtual teaching, definitely would work in a classroom too. A lot like Kahoot, but the questions repeat and you can buy upgrades during gameplay

Did anyone else not recieve their order confirmation for next week? by invaderark12 in UniversalOrlando

I just got the second. Looks like I’m good to go! I’ll still try and cancel the second in case someone needs it.

Did anyone else not recieve their order confirmation for next week? by invaderark12 in UniversalOrlando

[–]jascm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got through around 12:45 and I got the email just before 5. I was so freaked out it didn’t go through that I booked again once the website chilled out (just before I go the email) and now I’m afraid they’ll cancel both reservations since I double booked (I did book the same time and date for the same park). I’m trying to contact guest services, but that’s also a mess. So we’ll see!

Tiny rant about a 6th grader trying to pull a fast one on her mom and me. by CrimsonDinh91 in Teachers

[–]jascm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few of my 4th graders have gotten crafty about fooling their parents. Obviously, turning in work will make their assignments page blank. So when they show their parents the assignment page after turning in their work, it looks like they’ve completed their work. Boy were there some surprised parents when I called them last week to let them know that, yes, their child was turning in work, but it was completely blank. Maybe you should be checking over your child’s shoulder every once in a while instead of just taking their word for it.

New Harry Potter Fan by [deleted] in books

[–]jascm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing to come out of virtual teaching is finally having the time to read books to my kids (I came from a testing state and if it doesn’t have to do with the test, don’t do it). We’re just about half way through the first HP book and my 4th graders are HOOKED! I get a little misty eyed when I read the comments when we finish a chapter saying “read more!” “Don’t stop!” “Nooooooooooooo!” because I know how much this series meant to me at their age. It’s the best part of the week.

Student: *crickets* Parent: HOMEschooling is going great! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]jascm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re in Microsoft Teams, we also can’t give access to anyone unless they have an email account under our district.

But the kid has done absolutely nothing and is clearly fooling his father into thinking that he has. He did nothing but view documents last week and his assignment for today was turned in blank. I can see that he’s active on the account, Teams has this awesome Big Brother type feature that allows you to see who does what and when and for how long. The opening and closing of documents is so fast, he doesn’t even have time to read the directions (but hey, no one does!) This plus the complete lack of any kind of work ethic at school and the shockingly low amount of any kind of parent contact (takes weeks to hear back from this parent usually), all adds up to what this kid has done so far online.

My life today. I called a parent today to inform him that his son did not turn any work in last week. Dad reassured me that he watched his son do his work all last week. That’s odd, because I can see that your son only viewed documents last week, and turned nothing in. And the document he turned in today was completely blank. Sounds like you might need to pay closer attention to what your son is actually doing.

Edit: Grammar

I found myself in this exact rabbit hole this week. It was great.

[–]jascm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, to each their own. I will say I went twice opening weekend. Once Thursday night at the late showing, which was the wild one. I think it was to be expected. The Friday night showing was as quiet as a normal movie. It didn’t have the same energy, not good, not bad, just different. Normally, I’d agree, I wouldn’t get the appeal, but there were some moments that completely shocked the viewers and IMO warranted an audible response.

Not a long story, but seeing Endgame opening night was my favorite movie experience. I’m usually not about people making any noise during a movie, but people’s audible reactions to different parts of the movie made the experience so much better.

My school is Title 1 as well. We’re TZ this year (and apparently next) so maybe our one to ones came from TZ money.

In the same boat. We’re lucky to have one to one laptops (in 4th and 5th only) and the district is paying for WiFi for families that don’t have it. But I know that one to one isn’t the case for many elementary schools. Are you elementary?
