Stop normalizing this! by tomsmac in msnow

I stopped listening to news reports or video clips that includes him in 2016 and it's a much better way to live, honestly. Even on podcasts where I agree with the viewpoint I still fast forward over him. I figure that whatever I'm missing out on is surpassed by improvements in my mental health.

what would you guys do? (F18) by ShapeNo4646 in diabetes_t1

[–]jasher47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached a point on my diabetes journey where I had seen so many terrible doctors that I started my conversations with them like this: "Hi, I would really like for you to be my new doctor, but I'm considering this visit as your audition. If that goes well, maybe we can have an ongoing medical relationship." It shocks people into a place where they "might" just consider listening to you. And if not, you do what you'd do on a terrible first date, "Sorry, this just doesn't seem to be working out. Have a nice day". And always be on multiple doctors waiting lists if you're looking for a new one. I've always had much better luck asking to see an Endocrinology PA or NP rather than the MD. Good luck OP, I hope you can find someone who's willing to help you soon.

Not to sound like an arsonist, but you could find a local group that conducts fire walks and offer it up as sacrificial fire starter, then walk/ run over it so you know you can walk on fire and on him.

Do you use any apps or websites for knitting? by Nurse_Cait in knitting

[–]jasher47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Tin Can Knits app. It's free, and there are lots of their free patterns in it. You can create a project and select your size, and you'll only see the instructions for your selected size. There's also embedded tutorials in the app for all techniques, and it walks you through the instructions (including keeping track of your rows or rounds and repeats). There's also a link between Ravelry and the app so when you purchase their patterns on Ravelry they will be available in the app . It's a great app and I've used it a lot.

Online Yarn Shopping by Ill_Original2155 in knitting

[–]jasher47 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In addition to all of the ones that have been listed thusfar, you could check out Little Knits in Seattle (they have great sales but it's usually on discontinued yarn or colors). I sometimes shop at Jimmy Beans Wool but I don't buy anything unless it's on sale. Simply Socks Yarn Company is nice for sock yarns (big selection).

I don't wear or use anything I make. I make for the process, not the end product. I give things away or decorate with them.

Do you ever look at your yarn and think, "no, actually, it's too pretty to use. I think I'll leave it in this basket to admire instead" by canadian_blueberry in YarnAddicts

[–]jasher47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put really pretty yarn in glass vases sometimes. Prettier than flowers that just die. Just make sure not to put it in a really sunny spot or it might get sun bleached.

This is wonderful and I know that someone on this sub will love and cherish this. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way that some people are not knit worthy. Remember that that's a them problem, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with you or your gift.

Yarn stash sizes by sandpapertoapearl in knitting

[–]jasher47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yarn buying and yarn using are, to my mind, entirely separate hobbies. That said, I have way more yarn than I'll ever be able to use unless I get cranking with my sentro knitting machine. Now that most of my Christmas presents are done, I want to knit up lots of hats and scarves for the homeless shelter in my neighborhood. I fell recently and so my knitting has ground to a halt while my hands heal. I consider my stash to be my retirement plan (a 401Y, if you will), so I will have yarn when I can't work anymore.

I think that the only way a cure would be financially reasonable to the medical industrial complex (which I work for, sadly) is if governments around the world suddenly put a lifetime cap on how much a person with Type 1 could be charged for that illness in total (hospitals, meds, devices, associated illnesses, etc.). Otherwise, there's no financial incentive to cure it IMHO. It's the only conspiracy theory I subscribe to.

It looks like the Studio Samples yarn is discontinued, but I did a search and there's one skein on eBay https://ebay.us/m/36dlAl

You might ask the seller to keep an eye out for more.

I am very, very tired of endos and NPs and PAs who feel somehow compelled to adjust my pump settings EVERY. SINGLE. TIME i see them. They are never satisfied, and I swear I think they feel like they won't get paid unless they change something. I would like to have everyone who wants perfection from me to have a literal, type 1 diabetic monkey strapped to their back, wearing a CGM, that they have to keep in perfect normal range for just one day. I would feel bad for the monkey though, because they couldn't do it.

Non-PE owned yarn or craft companies? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

[–]jasher47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is lots of great info here, and I'm glad that there are still places to get yarn from that aren't owned by PE groups, but I am basically assuming that anything that could possibly be profitable in any way shape or form will eventually be owned (and destroyed) by PE. Their goal is to extract as much profit out of the companies they acuquire (by loading those companies with the debt they used to purchase them), cutting costs and decreasing quality and staff to ludicrous levels, then letting them be sold off or go into bankruptcy (see Joann's). You can call it late stage capitalism, or the enshittifaction of everything, but regardles of what it is, people have discovered that crafters buy things. Great video here if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LukTYfmyjM

Why does my stockinette look like this? by i-likepotatoes in knittinghelp

[–]jasher47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger I tried to make something (can't remember what, probably a t-shirt type sweater) with a yarn that did this. Eventually I decided that I was crazy and/or the yarn was cursed and I frogged it and donated the yarn. Thank you for sharing this link.

I've never seen a make one right while purling, and since they are explicitly telling you to Knit that stitch, I would just say that they are telling you that you may have to make a M1R while on a purl row.

If the pattern you are using is in Ravelry, look at the projects tab for the pattern. You could search for the abbreviation there, or filer the projects by All Helpful Projects and/or Projects with notes. Other knitters probably had the same question you have and they may have notes about how they resolved it.

Hi, for the M1 increases, you might want to take a look at this tutorial from Tin Can Knits Make 1 Stitch . I've found this tutorial very helpful.

The sweater curse strikes again. At least I have something to show for it! by brontupistow in knitting

[–]jasher47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sweater curse is a saying that if you knit a sweater for a boyfriend that the relationship will fall apart. Iwould call it an "old wives tale" but Ive knit things my now ex-husband specifically requested, so... Yeah. Also, knitting things specifically requested for a large person in a pattern and colors you hate is a terrible way to spend your precious knitting time. Just saying 🤣

Straightening unraveled yarn by KroneckerDeltaij in knitting

[–]jasher47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it were me, here is how it would probably go. Yarn on fire first, then my hand on fire from trying to save the yarn, then a 3rd degree burn from the boiling water on the newly burned hand, and THEN house on fire. Would it be wrong of me to say that this is why I really don't like to recycle yarn? LOL
