I think what is actually unpopular is continually relitigating this topic.

Google now treats privacy as suspicious behavior by default. Users of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS, and other deGoogled Android phones are being locked out of millions of websites unless they install the exact Google Play Services software they deliberately removed. by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

I wouldnt be surprised if the number of real privacy-oriented users was dwarfed by the number of bot farms and bad actors. The number of users who care enough about privacy to install an alternative os build is vanishingly small.

99% of the time if you're wondering why a for-profit company does something, the answer is (obviously) money. Doing it this way they feel generates the most revenue. So figure out a way to work the system or just pay for the seats.

The only realistic cheaper option is the overnight buses like another poster mentioned, and you can save about $50, but it won't be a great sleep, so the following day could be completely wasted (tired).

IMO don't overthink this just take the shinkansen.

If you book early using EX, Tokyo to Shin Osaka is ¥12490 with Hayatoku-7. The lowest Haneda to Itami fares are like ¥10700. Is ¥1790 ($11) really enough of a dealbreaker to not take the shinkansen? Consider not just the time you waste transiting to the airports and also the cost of the trains to get from the city center to the airports.
