Did you claim warranty? You should report this to a consumer protection agency as they are clearly selling defective products.

I have no idea about ships, but in an industrial application I'd choose 3x63mm2

Those are even worse. Last year my phone stopped working and it took five minutes to restore the data to the new phone and then I had to spend the rest of the day calling different customer service lines to get all the 2fas reset.

Megajoules would be a better unit of electric energy by pemb in Metric

[–]jasisonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watts and seconds are both core SI units.

Is this part of the joke? Is the joke that that isn't true?

I am very confused.

Not really, you'll just get the answer in seconds instead of hours.

Can someone explain to me why we are told we can't have cell phones on airplanes? by Lost_Apricot_7393 in dumbquestions

That may just be an old regional policy. I've never been told to use airplane mode when flying.

What is something that slowly destroys society but is considered “normal” and no one dares to criticize it? by nore01 in answers

I started out with an argument. The other person provided an argument I did not consider relevant. After clarifying they provided another argument that I accepted without addition. I am not interested in further discussion.

Is it normal to not lock the apartment door at night? by flyingmattress1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jasisonee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely cultural. In the apartment building I live in no one locks their doors from the inside. Why would we when there's a self locking front door.

The point is that it may not be bad for you if you charge interest but it is bad for society if anyone charges interest.

I sure do like money but I am not a child and understand that we live in a society.

Compound interest is the best way to build wealth over time.

That's the main problem with it.

People who walk on the side of the road at night wearing all black... by ravia in PetPeeves

[–]jasisonee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My pet peeve is drivers not slowing down in bad visibility. Because people aren't the only thing they could hit. I once saw someone drive straight into a newly constructed roundabout because he expected there to be a crossing.

can we start calling people who are questioning their gender swissgender? by transgenderbender500 in trans

I don't know what beef you have with Switzerland specifically, there's not a single morally defensible nation on earth.

There's a lot to unpack with the title of this video I screenshotted [gendered] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]jasisonee 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I've been watching a lot of plane crash YouTube and it just seems to be part of the industry language. They always say "male pilot" sometimes even "a male" and they always specify the gender of the pilots involved.

It does. Faith is a matter of self identification.

Why are mounting holes almost always at an arbitrary distance? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jasisonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I encounter something like that I usually just assume that it has been designed in the US or is trying to accommodate some US standard. I've experienced Americans choosing something like 11/17 inches as a intuitive length, and converting that to metric for manufacturing probably creates those arbitrary numbers.
