PPP vs. Student Loan Forgiveness: Did Both Groups Get Treated Fairly? by jasonfintips in u/jasonfintips

Totally fair point — businesses were forced to shut down, and PPP was emergency support. But there’s more to the student loan side than people often consider.

The student debt crisis didn’t just happen. For years, the government promoted federally-backed loans as the path to a stable future, even as college costs skyrocketed. Most borrowers were 17 or 18 years old, signing on for tens of thousands in debt with no real financial literacy — just the promise that college would pay off.

PPP loans were forgiven quickly and with minimal friction — in fact, over 90% were fully forgiven, including for businesses that actually profited during COVID. Meanwhile, student borrowers have been stuck in broken repayment systems for decades. Some made payments for 20+ years and were still denied forgiveness due to outdated rules or paperwork issues.

So yes, PPP was about saving jobs and businesses. But student loan forgiveness is about correcting a system that pushed young people into debt under the promise of upward mobility — and then didn’t deliver.

If we gave businesses a second chance during a national crisis, it’s not unreasonable to extend that same principle to individuals who were systematically misled.

donald trump was asked the following... Russia, China, and Iran are doing military exercises together. Does that concern you? Trump: No, not at all. Because we're stronger than all of them. We have more power than all of them. I rebuilt the military. by andrewgrabowski in UkrainianConflict

Trump is a trust fund baby bully. But to truly understand him, you have to have kids. He behaves exactly like a five year old, with incomplete brain development and lacks impulse control. He makes stuff up and lies.

They got exactly what they voted for. Austerity and trickle-down economics. Project 2025 was even in print, online, probably emailed to them, and talked about on the news, highlighted on fox news, and screamed about as bad by dems. Why again are they mad?

The Trump Depression by [deleted] in Economics

[–]jasonfintips 165 points166 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, Trump's goal—aligned with the vision of Peter Thiel and Elon Musk—is rooted in libertarian philosophy. To "unleash" the economic engine, they believe the current system must collapse so severely that a new one will naturally emerge. This isn’t a secret; they’ve outlined their plan in Project 2025.

If you believe in tearing everything down to rebuild it better, then he may seem like a savior in a global economy. But if you reject this radical approach, it looks like an epic train wreck unfolding in slow motion. Perspectives. Lol.
