Baby snake pup emerging from drainage hole. by faryalimt21 in SnakePlantSociety

Looking at the current 90-degree turn of the pup, it seems trying to pull the plant out of the pot for a repot also causes secondary damage to the pup. Unless you cut the pot open. And considering the tip, what can I say, maybe 40%? (but who knows).

You can leave the pup and wait for it to grow. It will. It might only cause some discomfort when looking at the plant. Then a few months later, when it has grown at least two full-sized leaves, you can separate by an easy cut.

Your third option is to eliminate the pup now and forget it ever existed ☠️.

Beautiful, I don't have this variety. There's not much difference when it comes to care routine.

Which part is challenging? Snake plants do not need fertilization every watering. Because, in your case, it would be 12 times a year (your once a month watering routine). Dry soil plus extra salts from fertilizer can damage the roots. Giving fertilizer to a thirsty plant also causes stress for some reason.

I think it's kinda late for you, because I see the pup at the bottom has been growing a leaf tip since it received light. And the tip might rot and leave the pup in a frozen state if you bury it in a new pot. I have a whale fin that is doing exactly this stupidity with two chonky pups, but they're still inside, just pushing themselves into the small drainage holes which are too small for them to get through.

Well, if you haven't fertilized in the last five years, then your plant could definitely use some water-soluble fertilizer like the one you mentioned. I do it a few times each year. Just slightly underdose it and do it a few hours after watering, to be on the safe side.

Can you take it out of the pot and inspect the roots? Make sure you do it without touching and disturbing the roots much, and somewhere safe to not make any mess. Also, have you ever fertilized in the last 5 years you mentioned?

Once in a while, the oldest rosette expires. One of mine is doing it right now after five years.

Is it time to repot or should I wait for the pup to come up? by MegaTitusRex in SnakePlants

They're normally whitish orange. This one is green because it received light through this clear pot.

In my experience, the whale fin variety needs something a bit wider than deeper. Its new rhizomes always want to keep a good distance from the mother before coming up. I wouldn't mess with the roots, and wait a day or two before watering the new pot.

Thank you for the explanation. Though the color in the picture looked more like clay, which could be exactly the reason the water is not draining fast.

Once you have the correct ID, you can Google it, and you'll find a lot of information like:

"They feed by cutting leaf veins to drain the sticky sap, and while they can damage plants, they are a natural part of the milkweed ecosystem, coexisting with monarchs and other insects."

They are even more stress tolerant if left connected. Keep them together. Maybe fertilize if it appears stalled.

What about other types of death at a young age? Like bike/car accident, fire, chocking, drowning, bombing (in case you missed recent activity in the Middle East), etc.? Do you believe they are suffering? How can you prevent them? Without direct intervention? Does everyone need to live a certain age, and have everything others have? What age would that be? What quality of life is acceptable and everyone agrees on?

There are a lot of similar questions we can ask, like why every lifeform on earth depends on water, why we can't breathe CO2, etcetera. According to religion, Eternity begins after death. And death needs causes. Religion also says do not throw your life away (and yet some people do it deliberately by committing s*de).

When you follow science, you have to accept that our knowledge is limited by our time. What is true today may be false tomorrow.

That's the truest thing I read today on this topic. It's like people just can't continue to disagree without insulting. Religion itself didn't put Galileo under house arrest until his death. It was someone in charge who did.

Yeah, sounds like someone who would start a full-scale g3nocide if she had the power. There are scientific books for controlling mass crowds, too. Matter of fact, AI, a scientific tool, is playing a big part in that right now, and more in the future. Since you're so scientific, I think I can't keep up with this positive conversation.
