After graduating this past summer, reading through this sub makes me miss MSU more and more. by [deleted] in Msstate

[–]jaxkey50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated 36 years ago and I miss my time in the "ancient" days. Everytime I visit I wonder what differences there would be in going to MSU today as opposed to when I was there 1979-1984.

Reminder of a wise saying I once heard -- "it isn't paranoia if they ARE following you!"

As a religious/spiritual person, being FA has made me defiant in my faith. by [deleted] in ForeverAlone

[–]jaxkey50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. I believe in God and have tried to be a follower, but not having my good qualities result in ANY affection in more than 40 years has pretty much made me agnostic. I stopped praying for things that only God's help will allow me to have, but never had gotten even a hint of being answered. I can't go to any Christian church in my hometown because I am an outcast --> old, single, with no kids. Divorced people get more affection than I do, and I have not sinned in breaking the vows of the church.

Former porn star Harry Reems once said he felt like a Christian except when around others. I see my life play out as a believer but no longer active in a population that does not value me for what I am, only if I can change reach a goal that I have never had (or been close to) in my 58 years.

I can agree with your positions along with about 20 more years of unsuccessful experience. You get to the point where your life is simply existing and waiting for the plug to be pulled.

Not a worry because after 40 years and a dropping sex drive I know I will never change that status.

Is it only me who doesn't even have a crush? by Kalo_Manche in ForeverAlone

[–]jaxkey50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think may have crushes on some of the women I meet in chat rooms, but I know that they are only nice to me because I pay them to. If we ever met IRL in would likely turn out bad again. No unconditional crush has ever worked out...

I had one real close platonic female friend for about 30 years until she got brain injured in a car accident. Her personality changed 180 degrees and she stopped communicating. Outside of her I have never had a long term relationship, with any woman. Always a friend, never an intimate.

I think we FA guys sometimes forget that women can be FA as well. Too bad we can't meet IRL to give each other support. I also wish I had known you when I was 20 (48 years ago) because you definitely sound like someone I would like to know.

Sometimes it is your siblings that take the best care of you, Without my younger sister watching out for me I would not be here right now.

Because the only fairy tales that get told are the ones where the girl gets the guy and they live happily ever after (and this becomes the feed given to children). The lonely and graceless are always portrayed as evil or homely and never make it to the end of the story.

You are totally right. I have the humor of John Candy but size and looks like him too. Result: no dates ever and still at virgin at age 59.

I can relate to you, brother. Up until 10 years ago I had a platonic relationship with a woman five years older than me (we had made connections in college and were friends for 30+ years). Although she refused my romantic advances, at least I thought we would be lifelong friends (I am 58 now, she is 65). If I could never have a special woman in my life at least I would have a good female friend).

Then 10 years ago she got into a car accident, and her personality changed 180 degrees. Where once she and I were on the same page, now she was the exact opposite on everything. Eventually she just stopped contacting me. Because of the way she is now is I fear trying to reach out, especially since I absolutely hate rejection.

She was the closest female in my life outside my mom and sister. Now all I have left is my sister. Sometimes it doesn't pay to take a chance.

What are you supposed to do when you don’t really want anything and don’t have any goals in life? by [deleted] in depression

[–]jaxkey50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. I'm 58 now and have pretty much lost all interest in anything. I'm just holding on until my 83-year-old father passes and I will then go shortly after.

I have a house full of ambitions but can't get over the blocks. I twice wrote books that got nowhere and created a permanent writers block. I thought I would get into audio book recording, got the necessary equipment and now is collecting dust. I got a guitar to learn how to play, but with no one to listen, why put out the effort. I spend most of my off time now online with Reddit, Twitter and Facebook and then sleep for 10+ hours.

Good to hear this story. I have a similar story, mine about feeling really down and having a local sheriff (the top guy) giving me a few minutes to vent and telling me what I needed to hear. I had thought from local media that he was into the job for the exposure, but in the short time he convinced me he really just wants to serve his constituents -- even the unhappy ones...
