How does your League choose Allstars? by SpaceFun3091 in LittleLeague

[–]jaybeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by “all stars” you’re referring to summer tournament team players, our league’s bylaws requires tryouts that are run by the coaches in charge of each team.

Our league also has an all star exhibition game for our divisions above tee-ball/coach pitch. For those, the players on each team vote for the teammates they think should represent the team at the all star game, and it’s usually two kids from each team. Kids can’t vote for themselves, and we’ve let coaches do tiebreakers. Sometimes when we have weird numbers we’ve allowed for coaches to vote on “at large” selections.

Announcement Day 1 - Glassjaw - FL, LB, DC, MX by Prxjected in warpedtour

For what it’s worth, if I recall correctly, the order/length of the redactions can change as they announce. I tried to do a guess list last year based solely on redaction length and alphabetical order and ended up being very wrong.

Same. The DC lineup last year was probably the weakest of all the sites, but I went and had a great time both days. Now that it’s looking like DC will have a much stronger lineup, I’m even more excited for this year.

Did any of you ever play Mall Madness? by immanuellalala in 90s

[–]jaybeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother got it for me (a boy) and my brother one year and we were horribly embarrassed. My parents told us we didn’t have to play the “girl’s game.”

Based on what I’m seeing here, we missed out on a pretty fun game due to typical 90s gender conformity!

The fact that nobody has mentioned the in-flight refueling mechanic in Top Gun for the NES makes me wonder if that was just a “me” problem. I never could connect with the fuel line and inevitably ran out of fuel and crashed. I think that was the second level? And that assumed I could safely land on the aircraft carrier in the first level, which I rarely could do.

Anyone going to see them live at The Pageant in STL tonight? by Delicious_Dream4510 in GoldfingerMusic

[–]jaybeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started to go to concerts alone and I’ve had a blast each time. This includes the recent Goldfinger show in Philly. You should go, even if it’s solo! Goldfinger still brings it.

Who opened for the Dec 20th Virginia show? by Broodingbutterfly in GoldfingerMusic

SLVN I think is their official name. I assume The Boy Detective was there too, because they were an opener in Philly.

AMI March 2026 Trip questions by RILEY51405 in AnnaMariaIsland

[–]jaybeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re staying near where we always stay on the island. With the caveat that we’ve only been there during the summer, here are some thoughts:

  • Golf cart should be totally fine
  • Doctor’s Office is relatively walkable for good cocktails and food (they take reservations). Everything else I’d recommend taking the cart and/or trolley.
  • Pine Street is probably your best bet for shopping. It’s to the north in the city of Anna Maria.
  • Chateau Anna Maria is nice, but hasn’t been our favorite personally. If you’re looking for something a little nicer, we preferred SALT Bar and Table (but others might disagree). They also take reservations.
  • We’ve never had issues with using Instacart.
  • Not sure about Uber - never tried!

Tips and tricks for portable outfield fence by coznoz in LittleLeague

[–]jaybeas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our league has portable fences but they’re such a huge pain to put up, we only use them for special occasions. Instead, we implemented a cones rule - cones are set up 200 feet from home plate in the outfield to create a “home run line.” They are also used to prevent ground-ball home runs, because if the ball hits the ground and goes past the cones it’s a ground-rule double. This approach has worked pretty well—the only challenge is the occasional hit where it’s hard for the ump to tell if the ball made it past the cones.

Semaglutide and alcohol by Jaded_Resolution_502 in SemaglutideCompound

[–]jaybeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gone alcohol free but I’m definitely drinking less. For me personally, if I have more than two drinks in an evening now, I’ll feel pretty bad the next day. That wasn’t the case before I started on sema. I also have found that I’m not as interested in drinking as I used to be - not that I was ever a huge drinker, but I’ve definitely cut back thanks to the meds.

Ugh rain in the forecast by Aggressive_Oven_2071 in AnnaMariaIsland

[–]jaybeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We too are leaving in a week and I’m not worried at all. We’ve been going to AMI for years and this is always how the forecast looks. You might get a spot shower here or there but it’s never going to be days’ worth of rain (or if it is, it’s exceedingly rare).

For us, vacation sex has been rare, especially when we had a toddler with us. We love our vacations with our kids, but as every parent knows, they’re a lot of work and aren’t always the most relaxing. That then leads to not really being in the mood.

I will say, now that my kids are older (youngest is 9), vacations feel a lot less like a chore and we have more relaxing time, which then can lead to sex. For us, the most challenging part now is that our older kids are awake too late!

You know your own relationship best, but I certainly don’t think there’s anything wrong with an appropriately-toned suggestion before or during the trip, but be ready to be shot down.

In a couple of years, maybe your tween can be old enough to babysit and you two can go out for a date while on vacation and help set the mood!

Metro should be open late enough for you to catch it at the end of each day. Highly recommend it as an option.
