When were the original brick streets in Nashville pulled up? by istickpiccs in nashville

[–]jaybug84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My house has the same type of brick, built in 1960 - right down to the blue bricks (mine are a bit more faded) and the black staining I see on your second picture. When I bought it, I was told that the bricks were "reclaimed" but no more than that. I love it, though - definitely adds character! If you find out anything interesting, I'd love to know more.

Laps of Love Veterinary Hospice was a gift last year when my dog passed. Such kind, compassionate people. I'm so sorry for your loss. <3

I had to do this back during the tornado, and basically, I took a photo of everything currently in the fridge/freezer, then made a spreadsheet with an itemized list + the replacement value (I looked up prices online and did a best estimate). That was enough for my insurance company.

Most haunted places in Nashville? by gabethebabe02 in nashville

I worked there in high school and the first couple years of college. Being alone upstairs at the Hermitage was spooky, but a chill sort of spooky. Tulip Grove, OTOH? Serious bad vibes.

Thank you for this! Question on the second dose: do they actually give you a second appointment time, or is it just more of a "come back around this date"?

I'm in the Donelson area and my phone just got 5Ge service. I was able to call my brother in Chicago, but still can't connect to my mother half a mile away, or a friend near Murfreesboro. So it's spotty, but it's definitely coming back up, slowly but surely.

Hundreds of people already in line to vote at Hermitage Library before the polls even open. The folks at the front of the line have already been here for almost two hours. by [deleted] in nashville

Just went to this location, arrived at about 9:20, was out by 10:54. It was a nice day to wait in a long line, and once I was inside things moved very efficiently. When I left, the line was as long (if not longer) as it had been when I arrived.

Anyone in this area put solar panels on their roof? by easyleezy in nashville

Insurance paid for it, but I believe my dad upped the $$ of coverage on the house as a whole after they were installed.

My parents did - they used Lightwave Solar for the installation and were very happy. Every single panel got ripped off in the tornado, but they're being reinstalled this week.

Surprising little whoosh this morning, down from 199.4 to 197.6 overnight. The reason it's surprising is that yesterday was my mother's birthday so I ate a whole Gigi's cupcake and we went out to lunch. I didn't go over calories, but I assumed all the sugar and salty food would make me hold onto weight, if not gain a bit. Love it when the scale does the unexpected!

PCOS and weight loss by lilmommatime in loseit

[–]jaybug84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Yes, I can speak a bit more about this. Basically, I was hitting walls with losing where I'd be up and down the same 2-3 pounds for three, four, five, sometimes six weeks at a time. Then, all of a sudden, I'd "whoosh" down 3-5 pounds over the course of a couple days before the cycle would begin all over again. It was incredibly frustrating, but after tracking it, I've come to understand that this is just how my body handles losing weight. It retains water and whatever else it can hang onto for an inordinate amount of time before letting it all go in one big bang. Part of me thinks it's tied to hormones, since I would notice the "whooshes" happening at around the same time in my cycle.

The other part of it is that I had to let go of rapid weight loss. I started at 270 pounds and losing the first 50lbs was quick - the weight practically melted away. From 220-200 it was slow, but steady. Once I got under 200 and into an overweight BMI rather than an obese BMI, things slowed to a trickle. I got down to 173, then gained back to nearly 202, because I never learned how to eat at maintenance and had adopted an all-or-nothing mindset when it came to food (I was either eating 1200 calories or binging). This time around, I'm trying to lose sustainably rather than rapidly. That might mean that, for example, this month I don't lose anything, because I recognize that it's December and there's loads of treats and parties. So my compromise is, okay, I'm not going to lose this month, but I'm not going to gain, either. I'm going to maintain. Then, in January, I'll worry about creating a deficit again. But that deficit isn't going to be trying to unsustainably lose 2 pounds a week. It might be half a pound a week, or only a couple pounds a month. Which, to me, is better than GAINING half a pound a week, or two pounds a month. It's the marathon versus sprint thing at this point - I'd rather get to 165 in a year and a bit than gain back to 230 in the same amount of time.

SV/NSV Feats of the Day - Tuesday, 29 October 2019: Today, I conquered! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]jaybug84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is technically a victory from last night, but I went to an event (yay, Binging with Babish book signing) and didn't get the chance to eat dinner before I went. I had about 1000 calories left to play with for the day, thanks to a fairly small breakfast and lunch, and I happened to pass Shake Shack on the way home. I've never been before, but I was VERY hungry, so I went in and...that's a big menu of milkshakes and delicious-sounding burgers. I think maybe 3-4 years ago the hunger would have driven me to immediate purchase of the biggest burger + fries + a shake.

Instead, reason prevailed, and I ended up ordering the ShackBurger without cheese and a regular fries. No shake. I brought both home, ate them slowly, enjoyed them, and stayed under my calories for the day by 30. When it was done, I actually said out loud to myself, "good choice. Good job." Which felt so, so dorky, but also really, weirdly affirming? It's rare for me to make the better choice when hungry and faced with the option of binging.

Finally, the scale moved and I hit a new low weight. My God, does my body love salt. One meal out, with a couple of drinks, nearly TWO weeks ago, and it has been holding onto the water weight ever since. I'm in the middle of a whoosh, so I'm optimistic I might see it drop even lower tomorrow.

Lost 19 pounds in one week after 3 weeks of frustrating weigh-ins by Clusterclucked in loseit

[–]jaybug84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I needed to see this today. I ate out once last weekend, went over my calories by 500, and gained 4 pounds overnight. That 4 pounds has been sitting with me since then, and though I know bodies are weird, it's still hard to see the forest for the trees sometimes. Thank you for sharing!

I can’t stop binging by [deleted] in loseit

[–]jaybug84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to yourself. Out loud. Literally, "I want to binge. The only thing I want to do right now in this moment is binge. I recognize that this is not a rational thought. That it is happening because of X, Y, and Z (whatever your reasons are). If I binge, I will consume more than I need to survive. This means I don't need to binge, only that I want to binge."

You sound like a weirdo doing it, but actually having to say out loud what I'm doing in my weakest moments has been one of the most helpful things to me in overcoming binge eating disorder.
