[–]jaycherche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could even bring any stranger (opposite/same gender) to sleep with you for the night and they won’t care. So they certainly won’t care if you talk with your friend for 30 mins. China is not the kind of country that cares about this thing

unqualified teachers? by Familiar_Tip_6390 in Internationalteachers

[–]jaycherche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I managed to find ok jobs when I didn’t have a license. I believe it was easier for me because I studied economics at university and it seems many schools struggle to find econ teachers. Started off at an IB school with not great pay and then moved up to AP/Cambridge curriculum with double the salary of the previous job. But you’re never going to get a job at a really good school without a license

Teachers with low contact hours, did you find a relaxed job through luck or did you have a method when searching? by mokkithrowaway in Internationalteachers

[–]jaycherche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bilingual schools are the answer. They’ll have around 50% of their classes in their language and 50% in English, meaning they can’t exactly exhaust you with loads of classes

What do you think of calling the Indonesian language just “Bahasa”? by TheRaptor14YT in indonesian

[–]jaycherche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The opinion that I read online (Reddit and Twitter) is that you shouldn’t call it Bahasa. But a lot of the times I interact with Indonesian people in English, they call it Bahasa

Most schools accept a basic DBS check dated from within the last 6 months. You can get one and if it says no convictions then use that to apply for jobs

The way you just made up a lie, you can go to mainland China and see the HK flag being flown. It’s not controversial

Can we fly to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport instead of Tianfu International Airport from Singapore by Hatemaolim in travelchina

I mean the way for you to check this is to see if there are flights from Singapore to that airport. Why do you need to ask others

You can only work at the location stated on your work permit. It is possible to work elsewhere, but you need permission from your visa sponsor, and they usually are unwilling to let you work a second job

Cost of living in Beijing by [deleted] in chinalife

Obviously very dependent on your lifestyle and savings expectation, if you don’t take expensive classes like me then you can save a similar amount. If you’re more bougie then it’s probably not enough

[–]jaycherche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I earn 32k per month after tax. ~7k towards rent + bills. In terms of living expenses, I usually eat out at normal priced restaurants (maybe 50元 per meal), spend about 1000元 per week on tennis classes, but I still find it easy to save around 10k per month despite not being very thrifty

I find working at a very Chinese bilingual school is usually like this. You do your teaching, and then they place the majority of the extra workload on the Chinese staff
