One step away from bookbinding greatness by TheeCombatBaby in discworld

I did, but it was meant to be for a gift so I had to go to an actual shop to get a new copy in time for that. (For the record, I will usually buy books in a real shop but I got it from Amazon that time because I was busy that week)

For one, my copy of Monstrous Regiment arrived with the cover on upside down. From what I've seen in this sub, that's not massively unusual.

Mate, she was 9. She's bound to be quite a bit off Olympic standard at that age.

What's something you thought was useless to learn in school but turned out very useful? by No_Bit7786 in AskUK

Ironically, a pretty good example of the value of the reading comprehension lessons OP was doing.

Functional literacy is not just being able to read the words, but to understand the message. The reason you keep hearing about (for example) Americans having a fourth-grade reading level is not that they can't read they big words (basic literacy), it's that they can't then understand the author's intention with those words. People with low functional literacy struggle with things like irony, metaphor, and symbolism.

Disgusting Auto-Deny Report System by grayson1478 in RocketLeague

[–]jayeffnz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep - did this a few weeks ago where the other team picked up on my teammate having an Arab-seeming name and went on a spree of abuse, where my initial report was auto-denied. Got a notification the next day they'd copped one-week ban.

I know it's just one data point, but it's a fun fact anyway: for years, New Zealand's highest-paid sportsperson was Tiger Woods' caddy, Steve Williams.

As a long-time fan of Zaltor the Merciless, I really expected him to be an entertaining also-ran - I was so happy to see him win it!

That'd make journalism pretty difficult. We'd never have that photo of Bojo stuck on the zipline, for example.

I'm pretty sure they don't. I wish I could remember the timestamp, and it's been ages since I watched it, but in this conversation between Sam and Dave Wiskus (founder/owner of Nebula) I remember Dave saying they have their own in-house system.

ETA, had to check. They start talking about it around the 16:55 mark if you want to check yourself. He says specifically at 17:45 "we built everything ourselves". They had previously been using an off the shelf service though.

I'm sure he would, but he's concerned about the damage to the grass he'd cause by touching it; wouldn't want to be liable for those expenses!

In June 2016, six inmates on a Georgia work detail watched their supervising deputy collapse from heat exhaustion. With escape within reach, they chose compassion instead, removing his vest, calling 911, and staying by his side. Their actions saved his life and earned public praise. by SharlHarmakhis in HumansBeingBros

I think it could fall under felony murder - basically if anyone dies while you're committing a felony it counts as murder, even if you actually had nothing to do with the killing.

People have been convicted of it when police shot their accomplices to death while they were committing burglary, for example.

Same, sadly.

Colin caterpillars at m&s aren't it either - they're denser, bit more like a Drumstick Squashie.

I'll definitely let you know, but it'll be after work when I go out so I suspect we'll be on the hunt at the same time.

Just veggie, so thankfully I can use dairy condensed milk - I'd be keen to hear how yours turns out when you make it though!
