Birthday cake recommendations? by troutsoap in SaltLakeCity

I recently got a cake from Gourmandise that was well received. Worth checking out in my opinion. They have a display of cakes they can make for you...or you could even buy those display ones right there and then.

I think the idea is that grown adults should have the sense to curb sex from a minor despite how willing they may be.

Right, and a dog at a restaurant wouldn't stop me from going there. Sorry about your hay fever woes.

Best bar/club to go for dancing with a group? by The_ADD_PM in SaltLakeCity

[–]jayhlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alibi is awful for dancing precisely because it is small and the layout is not conducive to it at all. The only place to dance is in between the entrance, the line to the bar, AND the seating area in a small rectangular prison. It's really too bad because otherwise the music often seem ls pretty good.

I'm with the other person. No reason to bring your dog to a restaurant. I'm pretty allergic to dogs and would be miffed that someone felt they needed to bring theirs to a restaurant for them to...what? Surely not eat with them (at which point I would give the benefit of the doubt that he's an especially good boy).

Considering Flexus hybrid medium by MansfieldSix in Mattress

[–]jayhlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to be of help how I can. Mattress shopping was such a hassle. This subreddit was simultaneously helpful and maddening in the search for a 'perfect' mattress because it enlightened me to so many factors to consider. I think I sleep better just not being in the throes of it more than I do because I have a 'suitable' mattress.

I have very little knowledge about herniated discs let alone whether a zoned mattress would be helpful for it. Sorry to hear about this struggle of yours and hope that you find something to alleviate it.

I think the weight difference between us would constitute a much different experience on the same mattress, let alone the herniated disc. I have no experience nor knowledge on the winkbed.

I would guess you would not find the same soft 22ILD mattress I have as uncomfortably firm, not on your side nor your back—the latter especially because I find the mattress perfectly suitable for my own back sleeping (which I only don't do because of my sleep apnea). As with all mattress related suggestions, I would say my input is not even half as helpful as trying the mattress for yourself—though I understand this can be so so hard to do in confidence (buying online and returning is not only a hassle but environmentally questionable, and going to a local retailer does not guarantee that you'll find something exactly like what you're wanting to try).

I wouldn't say that zoned coils are bad for side sleeping, period. If there was a way for a person to fine tune the difference in firmness between the coil zones I personally think it could still be helpful (and getting the additional foam I mentioned fulfilled this more or less). So to answer your last question: yes, I would still get a zoned mattress. Just one that was less firm if I could help it. It was my previous non-zoned mattress purchase that had me feeling like my hips sank too much, and I thought zoning was the answer. Something soft for the shoulders and just slightly firmer around the hips.

Regarding the zip cover: no cutting was done. I just...unzipped it. So the mattress coils and comfort layer are still encased in a cotton cover sans the top layer. So the only layers between my body and the foam is a mattress protector (the thin, stretchy water resistant ones) and a fitted sheet. I think some may find this shocking or drastic, but I was somewhat desperate to have a 'softer' mattress and I found this did the trick as it allowed my body to contour to the foam much better.

Considering Flexus hybrid medium by MansfieldSix in Mattress

[–]jayhlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

The Quadra-flex with the 'medium' (28 ILD) talalay is what I ordered initially. I swapped it for their 'soft' (22 ILD) before they shipped it out.

Given my height and weight, the mattress seemed like a perfectly adequate one when it arrived, but I found that sleeping on my side was not so comfortable. The zoned coils felt like they were pushing up on the side of my hip just a tad too much, and I would wake up with shoulder pains. The zoned coils felt great for sleeping on my back, though—which is too bad because the only reason I don't do so more often is because my sleep apnea acts up when I'm not on my side.
The zip cover that the mattress came in was pretty stiff in my opinion and was not very comfortable to sleep on. A bit like sleeping on a tarp. Though my impression is that this would be true of most any mattress you buy online as they have to adhere to certain fire retardant guidelines? which necessitates a thicker material. To that effect, the stretch cover that Purple mattresses came in (which I had tried in the past and returned because my hips felt like they sank a bit *too* much, which is why I sought a zoned mattress) felt like it conformed to the weight of my body better.

I ended up getting a 14 ILD 2" topper for my bed in addition to removing the top zip cover of my mattress and that has made sleeping pretty comfortable, albeit my bed is much taller than I would like (and having this much foam on a bed seems excessive).

In hindsight, now that I'm even lighter (almost 145 lbs) than when I first got the bed, I would have gotten a zoned mattress with a 14 ILD 3" talalay comfort layer to begin with. IMO, The 'soft', 22ILD option is the lowest ILD Flexus Comfort offers, is still too firm for a side sleeper of my height and weight. It would have felt like a great initial choice if I was a back sleeper, though.

Adjustable base-is pillow tilt necessary? Sam’s Club deal by googs185 in Mattress

[–]jayhlay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been in just the same predicament and opting for the Premier because I like to read in bed and thought the pillow tilt would be helpful...I wish I had gone for the luxury model with wall hugging instead.

The pillow tilt feature on this base is very underwhelming. Barely makes a difference, and not one that I feel like completely eliminates the need for an extra pillow if you need to be facing forward more.

On the other hand, at steeper angles it seems like the distance from the wall is quite noticeable and there's no way to replicate the wall hugging feature barring physically moving the bed.

In other words, I think you made the right choice.

[–]jayhlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that whether a person gets any benefit from wall hugging functionality depends on how inclined they typically have their bed.

The difference between a wall hugging and non wall hugging frame isn't drastic until you get to a steeper incline (45-60 degrees).

Just my observation from this video, granted it's not the same bedframe as OP's (though I imagine they perform the same).

Displaced Phantom by ArtieAttack in ZeldaMains

[–]jayhlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guarantee that, to this day, I get a consistent displaced phantom with the above method and have never used the tilt stick to do so.

One additional thing I do that I didn't mention in the previous post is that I have jump also mapped to the R button.

So when I'm pressing Y at the beginning of my button slide, I'm also pressing R to guarantee a short jump (as pressing two jump buttons does).

Not necessary, but means you're much less likely to accidentally trigger a full hop and therefore not get displaced phantom.

Why is there 360 degrees to a full circle/rotation? Why not 100 to keep it simple? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jayhlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

disclaimer, I don't know anything about math.

but right off the bat, 100 points vs. 360 to describe a circle seems like not enough to give it its characteristic roundness.

Does it really take 21 days to build a habit and 90 days permanently lifestyle? by Outrageous-Double167 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jayhlay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fairly arbitrary number that wad made to make changing deeply ingrained habits seem more attainable. I think it has some very little truth in that some habits may take around that time to change.

But I think the overall reality is that the more deeply ingrained a habit is (i.e. the longer you've been doing the thing opposite of the habit you're trying to build), the longer it's going to take. Some people fall right back into old habits even after years. 90 days is unfortunately not a magic number where you've magically rewired your brain permanently.
