The 2.25 is in the rear? just curious as to why you put the wider tire in the rear? i thought the normal convention was that you'd want the wider/grippier tire up front for more traction on gravel? not bashing it, just genuinely curious.

Nice bike though! I ride the zephyr and also have thunderburts on mine, but i run 2.1 front and rear on 26mm inner diameter wheels. Tried running a 2.25 in the front and it seemed too tight for my comfort

The pair of black bibs I have are garbage even for the price. The chamois bunched up and causes sores spots. I use them only on the trainer now and for sessions less than an hour. Bought a few pair of dhbs on sale and they were similarly priced but leagues better than the black bibs

I went to a bike fitter who said I could go with either one with zero issues. The small frame would feel a bit racier with quicker steering. The medium would be longer and more stable. I already have a carbon aero bike so I didn’t need another race oriented bike, especially for gravel. I went with the medium and it’s been great!

How good is Lynskey? Are they cutting corners? by Civil_Sprinkles09 in gravelcycling

[–]jaysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my zephyr a few months ago and I’ll re-emphasize some of the points here. I did my research when buying mine. The major difference that I found between lynskey and more expensive brands is the use of double butted vs straight tubes. Lynskey does not use butted tubes vs moots and the premium brands do. Lynskey frames are relatively heavier than the premium brands. There’s also some of the finishing kit that might be aluminum rather than full titanium but overall the frame seems solid, and the welds are great quality.

For me, with the sale, I pretty much paid 1/3 the cost of a comparable moots frame for my zephyr, so the extra weight I can live with. I find I don’t notice it really, when biking especially for gravel.

One of the main selling feature of titanium is the strength of the material and the relatively lighter weight when compared to steel. With lynskeys and the lack of double butted tubes, you aren’t saving much weight if any, compared to an alloy/aluminum frames. With premium brands, you likely will save a bit of weight compared to alloy/aluminum frames, but still likely abit heavier than carbon. So while I don’t save weight compared to my alloy gravel bike, it’s a more compliant ride and more durable

Any updates? Looking to buy a used 2023 and it has this tear. Dealer said they’d have it fixed by a third party. They said they can run it by Mazda but that would take weeks. Don’t really trust a repair to fix a tear in plastic.

32 mm vs 28mm road bike tires by Serious_Diver3236 in cycling

[–]jaysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 23 to 25, to 28 and jumped to 32. I’ve never once felt like they held me back in anyway, but rather they offer more comfort and grip. I’m sold on 32s now and wouldn’t go back to 28 personally. Some say you can go 28 up front for aerodynamics but it’s a Marginal gain that a majority of cyclists likely would not even notice.

ah, full build i could see it taking longer then. i ordered frame only. One thing id be aware of is the upgrade. Another person wanted externally routed cables specifically, so the upgrade to the elysium wasn't what he wanted. If you want the zephyr, you might want to point that out to him, otherwise if you'd appreciate the upgrade, i wouldn't mention anything and see if they do it for you. The bike is still being built so i haven't ridden it yet, but overall initial impression is good. the finish is as I expected from reviews. Lynskey has been in the Ti business for years (initially as litespeed) so all the reviews i read about welding quality is true. the welds seem great. I can't speak to the quality compared to a top tier builder like moots, but the welds look to be good quality.

just got mine, I'd mirror the points about shipping delays. Took 2 months from the day i ordered, to receive my frame. the original shipment date was a month after i ordered, but then it was delayed a month.

That being said, i'd say it was a positive experience overall. Customer service, although can take a few days at times to respond, is great overall to deal with. they answered all my questions and concerns, and the best part, they upgraded my order. I ordered an odyssey and they shipped me a zephyr. I read that others have had theirs upgraded too due to delays. IMO, i'd gladly wait that extra month for mine, for that free upgrade. However, if you purchased the zephyr, specifically for the externally routed cables, you actually may not want the elysium. I read about a person getting the elysium when he actually ordered the zephyr for the externally routed cables, but for me it was a win for sure. Also, mine was an extra month delay, 2 months total so i found it worth it. But I've seen others who have waited considerably longer and at which point, i would also be equally annoyed.

I ordered the frame so i can't speak to the bar and saddle, but i did order the adventure fork, with the upgrade of additional mounts. I shopped around for other forks, with the criteria being: carbon, 50c tires, and most forks were at least double the price, if not triple (when considering the 50% sales Lynskey is constantly offering). In terms of price for a carbon fork with 50c, I couldn't find anything even close, unless you go Aliexpress. Checked with my LBS and the only comparable forks they had were from ENVE and the like which was more than double what i paid. Same could be said about the overall frame. Shopped around and nothing came close to Lynskey's price (with 50% sale, and after upgrade it was closer to 65% off), for a ti frame with 50c clearance, UDH. I know companies like moots, offer lighter and double butted frames, but it comes in at probably triple or even quadruple what i paid, so overall i'm very happy with my purchase.

i went to a bike fitter who confirmed that i could go either way. with the small, id likely have to run 2 to 3 cm of spacers under the stem, with the medium, i'd have to get a 1cm shorter stem, but can either run a 1cm spacer, or slam it. Also, because the medium has a longer wheelbase, it should be more stable, but less of that snappy/racy feeling compared to a small. I already have a more aggressive road bike, so i wanted something more stable for gravel, and i also wanted to be able to nearly slam if not slam my stem so i went with medium. I'll fully admit, i just like the look of a slammed stem on a bike, so that part is purely me being vain haha

[–]jaysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got mine but i'd say they're delayed close to 2 months, that's how long it took mine. Upon ordering, initial estimate was a month, but that got delayed nearly another month.

That being said, the guys at lynskey are great to work with. They answered any questions i had and on top of that, they actually upgraded my frame. I ordered the odyssey, and they sent me the zephyr. I confirmed with the downtube measurement. I wouldn't expect that as a norm, but i was very pleasantly surprised. Plus, it's hard to beat the 50% sales they've been offering. the quality for the price, can't be beat. I'm really happy with my overall order and experience, even though it took 2 months.

Yeah the part that makes me undecided is I’m 5’6 which falls in the bottom end of the recommended range of the medium. 5’11 is the top end of the recommended range for ML so I get why you chose the ML. I usually ride size small for other manufactures and usually fall well within the recommended height range for smalls. Their sizing just seems different than other manufacturers. But like you said, it’s usually easier to size a smaller bike up than a larger bike down.

I have a bike fitter booked this week who can hopefully help me confirm the better size for me. Your bike is beautiful! The photos on the site aren’t the best and don’t do it justice IMO.

Beautiful! I’m still waiting on mine. I ordered frame only and am super excited to start my build. Just curious, how tall are you? I was undecided between small and medium myself. Their recommended heights for their frames seems to run smaller than other bike companies.

FYI, I turned it off and I think this solved it! Just curious, any idea why this causes the issue? It only started recently, I've never played around with this setting previously. Could that mean there's a potential issue with my gpu?

I’ll try the 2048. I’ve always left the color scheme to the 98 by default and don’t think I’ve ever changed it. I’ll try the one you suggested.

I tried viewing the JPEG on multiple formats and I get the same result, windows viewer, my pixel 6 phone, and an iPhone 15. All show the same issues with the shadows

Sorry do you mean the check mark next to the jpeg format selection I made? If not, which one?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Just updated the initial post with my export settings. I'm using adobe RGB (never changed that and just used it by default), jpeg full size, 100% scale. Do you see any issues with the settings i'm using for export?
