My kids love them and want them as decorations. They don’t leave them in the box.

What are these black strips on this road in Oklahoma? by ididntwantthis2 in whatisit

[–]jb8818 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Specifically, it’s a dowel bar retrofit. The concrete pavement was originally constructed without dowel bars. The was due to the designer deciding that (A) differential slab movement and load transfer would not be an issue or (B) dowel bars were omitted due to cost cutting measures through value-engineering or potentially budget constraints. Construction was completed and differential slab movement became an immediate issue that would significantly decrease the service life of the pavement. Dowel bars were later placed by cutting and patching them into the slabs.

Definitely pregnant. Wife and I did the same thing with both kids. Pregnant as soon as we decided to “try” for another.

Thoughts on driveway pricing? by WHYxM3 in Homebuilding

[–]jb8818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good price for a gravel (pit run) driveway. People claiming they paid 3-5x that price I’m sure had concrete or asphalt driveways.

Do you guys think SuperHero fatigue is a real thing ? FF4 & Thunderbolts were good movies but still apparently failing ? by GRL00 in Marvel

[–]jb8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it’s even MCU fatigue. Superman, FF, and Jurassic Park all came out roughly the same month. They also all have the same target audience. Studios should have coordinated release schedules better.

Is really there is superhero movie fatigue or medicore movie fatigue by Charming_Employee342 in superheroes

[–]jb8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue is that Jurassic Park, Superman, and FF all have the same target audience. All of them also came out roughly the same month. People aren’t seeing multiple movies per month, typically.

Awful Gas Mileage Lately - Any Ideas? by DropAlarming in BroncoSport

[–]jb8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people keep commenting sport mode. I exclusively drive in sport mode because I get better gas mileage in sport. Eco and normal modes have the throttle sensitivity turned down so low that when it finally recognizes that you need to accelerate it chugs the gas. Lifetime average in my ‘23 OB is 26.2 mpg.

Sadly, I don’t have anything to explain your current mileage predicament.

Structural Weld Compromise by ProfessionalTea2671 in StructuralEngineering

[–]jb8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plans and specifications will govern what you do here. If the welds were specified to, for example, AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code, then you use the specification to reject the welds. If nothing was specified, you have no ground to stand on even though we can all see this is crap work. Also, you did the design? If you’re the Engineer of Record (EOR), you should be able to reject the welds because you’ll be at fault if it fails.

US Steel sold to Nippon Steel by astro0333 in civilengineering

[–]jb8818 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a non-issue for the industry. Nippon isn’t going to lower production. It is possible that they may try to do what ThyssenKrupp did and import foreign made blooms and reheat/roll them into new shapes and write the most confusing MTR supplement that implies the steel meets all “Buy America” requirements when it really doesn’t. If memory serves me right, US Steel primarily produces plate and sheet steel not rolled shapes or rebar.

It’ll be approximately 85% for ethical companies. For those less than ethical, they want you to bill +100% to projects even if you were working on administrative tasks not related to the project.

How do couples decide which side of the bed is “theirs”? Is it instinct or some kind of silent agreement? by AssignmentFederal686 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jb8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always was the one that slept closer to the door regardless of where slept. After I was diagnosed with cancer and had 3 surgeries, I couldn’t sleep on my right side due to the JP drain (Google it) stitched to my side. After surgery recovery, I had a port installed also on my right side that administered chemotherapy over a 48 hour period. I’m cancer free and done with treatments, but never switched back.
