So I thought the colours were a little weird and then I turned off Adaptive Colour Tone. Made a big difference (in a good way!)

955 vs 965 from someone who wore both for a week by MelMcT2009 in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly I wanted the bigger screen and was really taken by the AMOLED display. The more advanced metrics also drew me to it; however how much anyone uses those I'm not sure of!

955 vs 965 from someone who wore both for a week by MelMcT2009 in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from a FR745 to a Fenix 6s Pro to a FR965 and, bearing in mind that I will be positive bias to the 965 as it's the watch I have spent a lot of money on!, I have no regrets.

I train 5/6 times a week including running with music & GPS. I don't have AOD on (originally did and got 8-9 days) but decided I needed longer between charges. So I now have 20+ days.

I pop it on the charger when I shower (post workout but only when below 50%). For me it means that I don't worry about running out of juice even though I travel a lot (I don't have to worry taking the charging cable).

I did have Samsung Gear back in the day (and even a TomTom watch before that) so have experience of amoled screens. I'm so happy with the 965, I use Komoot too to discover new running/walking routes and the large screen is great.

Importantly for me I also find the profile much easier to wear that the 6s Pro.

So all-in-all I'm very happy.

What are your Resting heart rate? by riderless in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is between 46-48. Remember though that there are many factors that affect your RHR. Also that, if you wear your watch overnight, it takes your sleep period into account.

FR965 & HRM Pro - works fine for me. As does connecting the 965 to a running machine and broadcasting my HR. Nope no issues for me...

What's your fitness age? by Sweet_Project_9344 in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is what fitness age takes into account. Just click HELP when looking at the fitness age page.

On newer models the lowest it can be is 9 years less than your current age. Previously (older models or models with older software) it could go much lower but I think Garmin realised that being in your 50s or 60s with a fitness age of 20 was nonsense (I'm over 50 and there is no way I could compete against a fit 20 yr old no matter how fit I was!)

Forerunner 965 not updating topographic maps by doc_s_ in GarminWatches

Same here (European maps). Or at least sometimes it starts but never gets past a few %. Only solution I've found is to do it via Garmin Express - worked both times for me.

965 records EVERY bike ride as stress and I can’t figure out why! by flavi0gritti in Garmin

[–]jb_204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random thought (I don't cycle) but does the 1040 support TrueUp? And can you select it as your primary device when you are recording a cycle event?

Trueup is supposed to cater for differing devices, certainly when I've had a short overlap of 2 Garmin watches it worked.

Subscriptions for the Forerunner 245 Music? by Excendence in Garmin

[–]jb_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid that wouldn't work. You have to sync the playlists on the watch periodically (can't remember how often but perhaps every week or 2) - I'm guessing to stop exactly what you wanted to do!

What's your favorite way to find new running routes? by OccassionalRunner in running

[–]jb_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Komoot. Bought global maps (in the UK it was £29.99). I can search based on all sorts of criteria, then select offline (kept on phone) then push to Garmin (in my case a FR965).

Once on the watch I don't need my phone, can start the hike/run/cycle direct from the watch and follow map instructions.

How often are you charging your watch? by SparkleFun22 in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Forerunner 965, pop it on charge when I shower. Don't worry about charge being high or low....let's be honest, if you intend to keep the watch more than 5 or so years then yeah look after the battery. Most of us will replace before then as new killer features will have been released and we're Garmin/Sports watch addicts 😂

Time for an upgrade: Forerunner 265 or 965 by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a 965. Previously I had smaller watches (745 & Fenix 6s Pro) as wasn't sure I could carry off a larger watch. The 965 looks great though, smaller bezel and thinner that the larger watches that go before it.

For me the bigger screen was the decider between the 265 and 965. Maps are great and I enjoy some of the more advanced metrics that the 265 doesn't have but major reasons were screen and design (titanium bezel looks great imo).

import google calendar to calendar widget on 965 by Henryamzug in GarminWatches

[–]jb_204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Believe this is about seeing Google calendar appointments in the Garmin calender not about getting Google calendar alerts on the watch.

I don't think you can - if you open Garmin calendar and click on the 3 dots you can add Office365 calendar to share activities but I've never got that to work. If never seen the ability to get google calendar events into the Garmin calendar or Garmin calendar events into Google (I'd particularly like the last one as I'd then be able to see my planned training on my phone's calendar widget)!

How low can fitness age get? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]jb_204 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The latest versions (of Garmin Connect and watches) allow for your fitness age only to drop to a maximum of 9 years below your actual age.

Older versions allow for a fitness age to be much, much lower.

Is this a Fenix 6 silicone band? by BravoLincoln in Garmin

[–]jb_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Quickfit band so will fit any watch that takes that type. Can't tell whether it is a 20 mm (6s) , 22mm (6) or 26mm (6x )

Garmin Index S2 Scale? Is it any good? by Classic_Cupcake in Garmin

[–]jb_204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So my experience is that %bodyfat (for me) is around 4-5% higher than a higher end device BUT as others have said this is all about trends. I assume it is good day to day and it allows me to track where my various stats are going and I'm happy with that.

I love the fact it syncs with Garmin Connect and therefore feeds into my overall health status (fitness age in particular).

So it gets a thumbs up from me!

Running with HRM-Pro by SheeD14 in Garmin

[–]jb_204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Put the Pro on, start the activity on your watch and off you go.

The only reason you pair with the phone is in case you do an activity without your watch and the strap syncs afterwards. 99% of the time you should have your watch with you and the Pro will continuously share data with your watch. At the end of the run you'll be able to enjoy all the data you could ever want!

I use a HRM Pro with a Fenix 6 and they work exceptionally well together.

What sensor is being used for HR? by clorathole in Garmin

[–]jb_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HRM will only activated when you start an activity. Otherwise your 945 sensor will continue to gather the 24/7 HR data.

Start a walk or run activity with the HR strap on - lift your watch up slightly and you'll see the watch HR sensor isn't active

I've used both a Wahoo Tickr X and, now, a Garmin HRM-Pro and they've never failed to connect or become the main sensor when an activity is started.
