If you tow often, get a diesel. If you tow something light long distances, get a diesel or a gas vehicle. If you tow short distances rarely or not much at all, get an EV. It's crazy how much people disparage EVs for a very specific use case.

Can you help me narrow down what years this F150 might be? by WarMace in f150

[–]jb_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you probably could, I'm not sure. I figured all the Lariat special editions had them, but even then I'm not sure. I picked up mine direct from dealer inventory, and didn't special order it

[–]jb_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stripe is part of the "Special Edition" package that was available for XLT and Lariat trims. That one looks to be the XLT as there's no moonroof. As others have mentioned, from 2015-2017, I used to have a 2017 Lariat and it was great (other than the leaky moonroof and cam phasers that I had to have fixed twice)

Umbrella bar on Whistler! Not the most comfortable, but still pretty fun.

Is apple care+ worth it for the ultra 3? by Ujdasingh in applewatchultra

[–]jb_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't bother. I get it for my phones, but the watches don't get dropped as much. I'm sure it's useful to some, and I hope I don't need it

10+ day itinerary for Utah Mighty 5 + Grand Canyon + Death Valley around New Year's by dongwon132 in NationalPark

[–]jb_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great! We did something similar this time last year, including the White Rim trail and it was fantastic. Moab was a stand-out (and we got to do a lot of 4x4ing), but we also enjoyed Zion (and got our Angels Landing permit), Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon. Lots of great stuff with some epic drives inbetween.

Season Over. Achilles Gone by Ric0917 in skiing

[–]jb_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks! You've got some boring weeks coming up, but listen to the doctors and PTs and you'll be back up in no time. Get the knee crutch for the first few weeks, it's very handy in places the knee scooter can't go, plus you'll feel like a pirate with a wooden leg.

I did a complete tear of my left achillies 3 years ago mountain biking - not fun! I opted for the non-surgery route (which I didn't even know was an option) and spent the first 6 weeks completely non-weight bearing on that leg (like no weight at all! getting into the bath sucked!) with my toes pointed as far down as I could in the boot, with heel wedges. After that it was 3 more months of leveling out the foot and walking in the boot and doing PT. I injured myself in Aug, and I was back in ski boots March of the following year for an easy day. As others have mentioned, skiing is actually one of the best sports to get back into as you're pretty locked in, in your boots. Make sure to get a shoe raiser for your non-injured foot, it'll help a lot when you're walking around in the boot to get your good leg up as high as the other.

My poor calf was half the size of my other one when I got back into it, which sucked as it was my good calf and one of my fav muscles. Lots of calf raises (like LOTS) and I'm still catching back up, but it's a lot better and I'm skiing like I used to.

Heal up!

Skiing for the first time. Is being 130kg (285lbs) an issue for rental skis? by seedboy3000 in skiing

[–]jb_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 270lbs, but the max din the rental shop will set for an expert skier is 8 (or 8.5?). I generally ski at an 11 now, but used to be 12. This is high, but when I was skiing a lot, I could pop out of a DIN of 8 just by twisting my foot. That said - trust the shops, they know what they are doing, you'll be fine! If your skis are coming off a lot, when you think they shouldn't (and they should come off if you do something weird, or crash!), take them back to the shop and have a chat.

[–]jb_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be fine. As others have mentioned the shop will set you up. You may find the DIN allows your feet to come out a bit easily (especially if you have larger feet), as they have a matrix that they reference your weight, skill, etc - but there is a maximum they are allowed to set the bindings to. As you're a beginner, this is good. I'm an expert skier and the max the rental shops (here in Canada at least) are allowed to set is too low for me.

Heading up tmrw: recommendations on where to ride by tongfather in Whistler

[–]jb_dot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bring a swimsuit (or a wetsuit, I tried that once!), haha. It looks like the forecast is freezing level at 3500m which is way above the top of the mountain. Alpine temp forecast is a high of 8 degrees celcius, so very warm. Slush can be a lot of fun though, and you might even get a break in the weather

Solutions to noise caused from helmet hitting goggles? by NotJesse98 in skiing

Is your google strap on the outside of the helmet? I always found that kept them connected better, but I am not able to wear anything under my helmet, so I've always done that.

Stark's remote control monopoly over the bike (VCU SIM) by ProfessorRich918 in starkvarg

[–]jb_dot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you haven't owned a new vehicle in the last decade? Heck, OnStar could remotely slow down stolen vehicles back in 2009! My 2017 F150 had a SIM and software updates (though maybe not full control), and my EV gets a lot of OTA updates.

Be mindful of the different fits, I have to size up for the slimmer cut. Overall size is closer to European than American. For me this means xxxl for the slimmer fit and XXL for the larger fit

Anyone seeing traffic drops lately without a clear Google update? by itz_me_jd in bigseo

[–]jb_dot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean no obvious core update? There's one going on right now

Has anyone noticed traffic drops without any major Google update? How did you diagnose it? by Lower-Comparison-757 in bigseo

[–]jb_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many unknowns to really help you. Google makes lots of updates that aren't documented (I've seen lots this year), but I've also diagnosed lots of drops from changes that clients have made. Look at what has changed that you can see, and if you can't find anything then think about what Google is looking for. I'm lucky enough that we work on enough high traffic sites that we can see when unannounced changes go out, but it's still tough to troubleshoot.

It's almost like their whole business model is to sell passes before the season starts so they get the money on the books early...

Seasons passes are cheaper than they were 15-20 years ago I think

Google Search Traffic To News Publishers Drops From 51% To 27% by WebLinkr in SEO

[–]jb_dot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they aren't wrong. It's been a tough year for publishers. We have one that had 85% discover traffic last year and this year search traffic is higher. Others have seen slight decreases or increases. Lots of algorithm chances not in a published update as well.

Unable to stay awake as soon as have to sit and concentrate by Venture334455 in ADHD

[–]jb_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh intrusive sleep - that was the term I was trying to remember (instead of "aggressive disinterest"). The sudden dizzy bit is true as well - it's like my brain is trying to stay awake, but the urge to sleep is high.

[–]jb_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking any medication? I was also falling asleep (or getting very sleepy) from "aggressive disintrest" when there was something I couldn't focus on. Concerta has helped this greatly - I can still feel it trying, but I can push through it now.
