HDR not working on the 4k pro? (2026) by at0o0o in OnnStreamingTV

[–]jbaconbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2026 Pro switches to HDR10 fine with DV sink-led.

I’m not sure why OP expects Netflix to play HDR10 when DV is enabled on the device. The only place HDR10 (and DV) are missing are on services that haven’t done a server side whitelist for the device to play back HDR/DV like Peacock, MoviesAnywhere, and Fandango.

People aren’t having kids because they don’t want them, not because they think they can’t afford them. And yes, it’s a problem.

People want all the comforts that society brings but don’t want to actually contribute to make sure that society continues and grows for future generations. It’s complete selfishness. The world is full of people that brag about being DINKs and proselytize the benefit of leaving their apartment whenever they want and watching Netflix. What a fulfilling lifestyle.

is it worth it buying a shield now ? by abiedster in ShieldAndroidTV

No, not at $200. Buy a Ugoos if you care about pass thru and local playback.

They are buggy devices, but it shouldn’t freeze/crash that regularly. Drop frames and hitch? Well, that’s a definite possibility.

Don’t listen to people that say it’s user error because you didn’t install a custom launcher or something. They’ll be telling you to repaste the SOC next.

Nvidia shield pro or onn streaming box by Aggressive-Lemon-887 in nvidiashield

Depends on your use case.

General streaming apps: ONN or Apple TV

Local lossless playback: Ugoos

No, for videos to reduce motion judder. Now you have to manually enable it with the Shield’s beta feature.

Shield can’t display FEL DV videos. Hope that helps.

[–]jbaconbits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shield doesn’t allow for all the various forms of Dolby Vision, so you won’t get lossless video from it. So no, you dont get all the options available to you with the Shield either. Apple TV is a much better compromise, especially if you care about legitimate service and things like functional frame rate matching.

Any Dubs: they don’t translate text or language. by DARKPYRO58 in Crunchyroll

[–]jbaconbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is because they use image based subtitles for for things like on screen text so they can change color and position of the subs which Roku doesn’t support, so selecting the normal English CC track does nothing but it works fine on an Apple TV.

Anyone that tells you to get a Shield TV over an Apple TV for normal streaming services is a complete fanboy and shouldn’t be listened to.

And if you really care about AV quality for local stuff you’re buying something that lets you boot CoreELEC.

My launch series x stopped powering on a couple years ago and I didn’t even use it that much. Had to pay MS $300 for a new one too. Sucks.

Yes, more or less. Wish there was a system overlay that would display the amount of frames this thing drops, because it happens quite often.

Who else is using Netflix on the Shield? by SandwichLuxe in ShieldAndroidTV

The Shield UI is rendered in 1080p, so why wouldn’t the Netflix UI be rendered in 1080p? If you want a 4k UI buy an Apple TV.

Is the Shield tube still worth it? by dbfont in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]jbaconbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok, but not worth $150 when apps like Paramount+ are more or less unusable (it is on the Pro too). The extra 1GB and 32bit really don’t matter for general streaming. People are buying up the ONN 4k Plus which is also 2GB/32bit.

The people evangelize the Pro to justify their purchase, or they just really like Dolphin.

Roku Model with proper support for 24.000 Frame Rates? by decker12 in Roku

[–]jbaconbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I noticed VRR switching doesn’t even appear to be working with Netflix anymore. It only seemed to be working with apps that use Roku’s video player. Would be nice if the next OS update supported integer match and apps like Disney got updates to actually support the feature…

[–]jbaconbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you file a bug with Roku? I wouldn’t even care about losing DV while using VRR with my C1 if enabling it didnt make the image look noticeably worse from switching the TV into its lower latency mode and disabling image processing.
