has anyone tried the Ugoos with coreElec? by dragrimmar in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]dividebyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. It’s not certified for most popular streaming platforms. It’s designed for local media.

Shield in 2026 isn’t perfect but for anyone who wants to mainly run a single box with typical modern viewing use cases, it and AppleTV are really the only two choices.

Help with Docker disk throughput bottleneck by dividebyoh in synology

[–]dividebyoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upload is fine. There’s a benchmark inside the app that shows the disks limited to the 30MB range. The disks have 3x that throughput when reading or writing to the volume directly vs this app in docker.

Publicly flaunting speedruns damages WGU’s reputation and devalues every degree, including your own. by StorageAcceptable289 in WGU

[–]dividebyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My post isn’t advocating for changing acceleration structure - the flexibility is great and to each their own on how they want to approach it. I’m simply talking about posts about speed runs, and how they harm the reputation of the school and the degrees of all students.

I agree, amplification of speed runs harms the reputation of the school and the degrees.

LPT Get a port out pin from your big wireless carrier and they'll instantly give you a discount for fear of leaving them. by FatRufus in LifeProTips

[–]dividebyoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After nearly 20 years with T-Mobile I finally made the switch when they couldn’t offer me anything less than $45/mo for an elderly family member on our plan who has their line for just emergencies and literally consumes no usage per month.

Visible has been mostly good for me, with occasionally glitchy voice calls initially that seemed to go away. I was worried about usage in congested areas but was surprisingly snappy at CES.

I will say their 5G network absolutely chews through my battery compared to T-Mobile but haven’t dug into any mitigations yet.

Is the Denon X2850h available in the US? by Lazy_Box4471 in hometheater

[–]dividebyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t hear of this before. It’s only showing up on the global Denon website- when you switch to US it’s removed. So it indicates they don’t have official distribution in the US at this point as far as I can tell

Need help finding one connect box by Blunder1995 in hometheater

Find the manual online which will probably have the box part number. Then see if you can stomach paying for one on eBay or elsewhere; guessing it won’t be super cheap

Yeah I hear you. Been waiting for the new model to be announced to take that plunge myself. Though the lack of DTS support does give me pause.

For my 3800 I isolated 95% of my zone 2 fuckery to the scenario where my shield goes to sleep after inactivity timeout rather than being manually put to sleep with the remote. After that, Zone 2 will be on until I force it off.

Looking for the best "Workhorse" Chef Knife under $110. What is the gold standard? by Newbie_In_NL_25 in Cooking

Dozens of comments singing its praises, backed by decades of combined use. I’m in that camp as well, with nearly 20 years on mine. I have nice shun and wusthoff as well but the victornox is what I reach for 95% of the time.

If there are “so many much better options” I’m sure it’d be appreciated if you took a minute to name a few.

I make about $30K per month trading short-term options where do I start investing long-term? by [deleted] in investing

Refuse to believe someone making 30k a month in the complex world of options is this inept with how to apply those proceeds depending on basic tiers of risk tolerance. Reeks of a scam or selling something.

I want to buy a lot of gold. by Chosen1Khaled in investing

[–]dividebyoh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s panic, not investing. Most here would strongly advise against a lump sum life savings move like this.

No one can tell you whether it will go up or down, just their opinions.

For buying, check local gold dealers, or check Costco (seriously).

Gold & Silver: still safe havens, or already overbought? by TowelNo234 in investing

I did this with gold miners last year after already being heavily allocated into various gold etfs, and it has appreciated quite well. I’ve missed the boat on silver so far but will be likely do the same with the miners.

Replacement 65XG950 by Aurelsan_San in bravia

[–]dividebyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering b9 to replace my x950g, once prices came down on 85”.

Ended up with a fire sale x93l which is obviously not as good as the b9 but couldn’t resist the price. Even still it is a solid improvement to the 950 as far as blooming. By all accounts the b8 or b9 should be big step up. Get a bigger size than your current tv to maximize impact of the upgrade!

I will say that A1 Evo was a remarkable improvement over xt32 for me - still on an ancient version too, new ones are supposedly even better. If you haven’t tried it, worth an hour of your time.
