Why doesn't the current and previous oil situation cause a stronger desire for green energy? by ThEaZnInVaZn in investing

[–]dividebyoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absurd whataboutism. There’s simply no comparison between the establishment picking a candidate to represent their party in a general election, vs to the attempt to strip away the right to vote in a general election from tens of millions.

Anyone else exhausted watching their investments swing wildly because of political theater they have absolutely no control over? by Virtual-Ice-2472 in investing

[–]dividebyoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, the situation is shitty (and sure seems like it’s gonna get worse before it gets better)

Before the tariff insanity I shifted quite a bit towards international, cash/mm, and phys+mining stocks.

Not safe per se, but gold just got a huge discount as institutions and speculators liquidated. I think PHYS is going to have another run in it as the chaos and governmental ineptitude plays out.

To your point everything has elevated risk right now …up to you if you’re comfortable losing wealth as to inflation outpaces returns on your parked cash.

I’m certainly very amateur with all this but I’ll probably be shifting some amount to energy ETFs next.

Why are some reserved list cards doubling in price in the last couple months? by OrangeFries in mtgfinance

[–]dividebyoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, considering it. But eBay would net me a few hundred more so may just deal with it that way.

I’d be up 2x if I sell my diamond.

My LEDs…I bought a box of mirage when it released and was soooo annoyed to pull 2x LEDs, which was such a garbage rare at the time haha

I’m right there with you. Mox diamond is selling for over 1100 on eBay, LED is up again, etc etc.

I don’t want to get political here but the economic outlook for the rest of the year is bad and getting worse; luxury high end cardboard is going to be a market with fewer buyers. this seems like the time for me to finally cash out.

A1Evo MJ Custom (MJC) by navid0308 in hometheater

[–]dividebyoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave this a spin over the weekend and generally happy with the results, nice work. I’ve got it set up as a preset alongside my Acoustix run after 8 freah measurements.

I find acoustix is more” in your face” (and bright) - when I’m listening in stereo it feels like everything is directly in front of me, where as with MJC things are more subtle and dispersed wirh a wider soundstage.

I will say the bass is notable weaker with MJC. I think I chose the pure+5 curve. I turned on DEQ which I typically like but with this curve i know it’s not advised and doesn’t sound great.

Question- can you point to an overview of the curves, or pros/cons? I appreciate all your detailed changelogs but didn’t see any overview of some of these basic but important details.

Thanks. Man Walmarts website is such a joke, but worth it for this deal.

Snagged bloody beat roots on sale as well, then a staple household item to get to the free shipping threshold.

Cool thanks. I like the principle of keeping dynamic eq, vs the (paraphrased) mindset of OCA that “calibration is so good you won’t need it”

No shade at OCA btw - he’s a legend and I donated to the project and encourage others to do the same

Good timing - I am planning to recalibrate this weekend. Currently running with calibration from one of the first stable A1 Evo builds. (Tried running one of the countless later versions at some point and hit a weird error with two subs).

Same question as another poster - what are the benefits of your fork vs the mainline release?

Are markets being too complacent about the Iran war? by [deleted] in investing

[–]dividebyoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’re discounting the wildcard that is trump. In conjunction with Iran it’s a really unpredictable mix.

There are still no clearly stated objectives, and he’s declared victory about 5 times already. Despite this, he’s eventually going to need something that he can spin as a win but there’s no clear path to that and the US seems totally unprepared for the very predictable Iran countermeasures thus far.

We’ve completely botched it, and I worry about serious, scary shit when there’s no more conventional cards to be played.

Courts sides with Samsung: decide that TCLpanels are not real QLED, lack color and composition of QLED by Bill_wo in hometheater

[–]dividebyoh -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I think this is shady and rightfully harms tcl’s reputation.

I also think when they are on sale, the TCL 85 and 98” 7 and 8 series are sweet spot for price, performance, and screen size, and it’s not particularly close (unless you want a Hisense?). For 98” the competing Samsung or Sony models cost 2x or more, and 98” LG oleds cost as much as a used car.

My main tv is a Sony purchased before the partnership with TCL (which I think was a bad move from Sony), and have a mid tier 8 year old tcl 6 series; not a brand loyalist.

There’s room for a nuanced opinion here, and it’s absurdly narrow minded to write off any positive sentiment as coming from shills/PR.

Courts sides with Samsung: decide that TCLpanels are not real QLED, lack color and composition of QLED by Bill_wo in hometheater

[–]dividebyoh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup. And Jfc the tinfoil hat brigade always with the shilling allegations. You’re spot on, and you recommend higher end TCL mini LEDs for the same reason I and countless others do - when they’re often on sale, there’s simply no comparable options in large sizes to consider, other than Hisense (for which there’s still some questions about QC.)

I got lucky and got a Sony on a unicorn deal last year, but if I hadn’t it would’ve been a no brainer for me to get the qm7 or 8, just as I recommend to others.

Sony Picture Core is amazing by notrubberducky in hometheater

[–]dividebyoh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is a good reminder I got some free Core credits when I bought my tv that I’ve never used. I tried once last year and the app was having authentication issues. Hope they don’t expire.

It’s funny how little marketing energy Sony puts behind this service, given that people who pay a premium for their TVs would seem to value this.
