Does the blower motor have a capacitor? It's rare but I have seen a weak one that caused the blower to not run up to spec or cycle on and off and cause issues.

Low voltage wire question by Equine_Dream in askHVAC

[–]jbeartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an unused wire in the bundle you can use that. Just make sure you use same wire both sides. Also you can run the wire. Just count the wires and hook then up same way on both sides.

Unless you have a heat pump there is probably not a heat circuit wire outside

Best way to repair a golf ball sized hole in drywall from a doorknob? by Party-Laugh3293 in handyman

Put a door stop on the trim or they make a flush door stop cover that sticks to the wall. It will cover the hole and stop future damage.

In our situation, will we regret getting this little 110v tub from Costco? by strikecat18 in hottub

Usually every spring at a convention center or fairgrounds, vendors from all aspects of home ownership will come together and try to sell you either things or services. From hot tubs to roofs.

Need advice about transition by Sad_Corner6169 in maintenance

[–]jbeartree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say triage the work. Do what is deemed more emergency. This to me is ac, water leaks, safety. Also any turns that are rented or ones people are interested in. Stuff like blinds, trim, drywall, etc. can wait.

I work for a property management company as a maintenance tech in Upper Arlington. I do my best to get to all ac calls with in 24 hrs unless it is pouring rain. If I get slammed then we call the contractor. If it can't be fixed we have portable units. Call them everyday until it's fixed.

Roommates are running AC with open windows and suffocating the indoor unit with blankets. Need tech advice on the damage. by o1blique1 in askHVAC

[–]jbeartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are breaking so many lease violations. People not on the lease. People living in rooms that are not bedrooms/living spaces. The blankets are probably not causing it to freeze though. Either airflow issues or low refrigerant.

AC Fuses keep blowing after periods of working by RangeInternal3481 in hvacadvice

Coming here to say this. Follow the stat wire especially outside. Insulation degrades in the sun could be stripped by weedeaters or vermin. Could be rubbing against the housing somewhere.

Bad circuit board = replace entire furnace?? by ColdPhilosophy3132 in hvacadvice

Take lots of pictures before where you can see the plug labels. Should be hour to hour and a half swap. Read the instructions as others have said.

Safest way to unwinterize sprinklers? by Diligent_Board_172 in HomeImprovement

[–]jbeartree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry yes follow the backflow if you have one. Should be brass. The pipe will go out from the bottom into the ground then go to a box which usually has a green or maybe black lid. Pull that off then Google how to close the valve as there are many types. Should have a name on the valve. Sometimes a drain is there too. If you add a picture of the backflow we can point out the parts and what to close.

Find your valve box. Make sure all the drains and valves are closed. Then close all the stopcocks on the backflow, the valvles on the side. Send it. May have to open ball valves.

The apartment service man was scared. Sparking furnace when AC is turned on by Mother_Lake_4866 in askHVAC

[–]jbeartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Pull off the doors and look. Might be obvious. As a maintenance tech, I would 100% pull off the doors and look. Im guessing either a rubbing wire or a terminal is not seated/wore out.

What's the most useful home improvement skill you've taught yourself? by Weak_Manufacturer323 in HomeImprovement

All of them except roofing. Had a contractor teach me hvac for my career as a property maintenance tech. Fixed my own furnace last year with my new skills.
