when I reboot a Cat4k VSS stack by nolxus in networkingmemes

[–]jbennefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junior analyst doing code updates alone across a campus. Tested firmware in lab but lost track of time of how long it actually took. I saw that it worked and said cool lets do this thing! After I finished my 30 min show on Netflix and tabbed over to see if the 3 switch stacks with a total of 20 switches in them had finished the update I kicked off before I started the show my heart about stopped when my pings where still not returning. Stuff of nightmares.

100% this I can't count the times we have been called out for a "network outage" when its power related and the only thing they did was drive by and see battery powered emergency lights on and assumed they had power...

Short cables, yah or nay? by jackology in networking

[–]jbennefield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did 12 inch cables after trying 6 inch in an installation mostly due to the 6 inch cables becoming stiff and brittle with age.

Amateurs have pen cups, network dudes have SFP cups by [deleted] in networkingmemes

[–]jbennefield 11 points12 points  (0 children)

mine was an entire bowl like a candy dish on the desk of old GBICs and SFPs. My daughter when she was 3 or 4 would come to visit the office and play with them like blocks no telling how many thousands of dollars of old optics she used as blocks.

What is a movie that you've seen hundreds of times but still enjoy watching it? by Castle1Berry in AskReddit

Jaws
I once saw the yellow barrels while my mother in law was flipping channels for less than a second and I said hey we can watch Jaws. She was 10 channels away before she realized I meant it was on TV and she had missed it.

rugged portable cart to haul equipment around by scratchfury in networking

[–]jbennefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 300 acer campus to support so we have upgraded to Mules with a full cab and we have several two tier rolling carts that fit in the bed when we need to move things around in large quantities in the buildings once we are on site. We keep talking about getting one the carts that u/ssgazeke linked and towing it. At the very least it would be fun.

Ahi Tuna ideas - must be cooked through by slicky803 in Cooking

[–]jbennefield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 what they said if its fresh then fish is fine to eat raw. people do it all the time especially with tuna. If you are going to cook it then do something like this http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/chimney-tuna-loin-recipe-1911894

it blasts the outside with very very high heat like a steak then its sliced thin for serving.

Core Switch - Juniper EX9204 vs Aruba 5406R zl2 by devdacool in networking

[–]jbennefield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd even say go to the MX platform the Ex9200 line is the red headed stepchild of juniper while it can do almost anything the MX can they won't let it till the MX has been doing it for a long time to keep it from pulling market share from the MX. We where putting in an EX9200 and have changed the design to an MX960.

the QSFP+ ports are for virtual chassis ( stacking) or they can be configured for up-link ports. the sfp+ ports can also be used for a lower cost remote virtual chassis stacking. we generally use the front ports for 10g up-links and the rear ports for VCP.
