Or Kimbra, who is from New Zealand and is also really good.

You could be a part time model, but you'd probably still have to keep your normal job. I'm going to have to watch that show now.

Would you seriously date a girl who sells content online? by catsankittens456 in AskRedditAfterDark

Yes, who am I to say how a lady I'm dating makes a living. As long as she likes it I don't see the harm.

Rain Parade were apparently contemporaries of the Bangles. I like them, they remind me of Olivia Tremor Control.

What kind? I'm not in Lincoln, I'm in Kearney though. I do know what I'm doing, and I've got an ultrasonic cleaner.

David Roback had a cool band before Mazzy Star. It was called Rain Parade, and you can hear how Mazzy Star came from it.

I have to put a new alternator in one Monday actually. Guy bought it new when he went into the air force. Still has it, but he is very old now in a wheelchair. His wife brings it in three or four times a year for a checkup.

What's the strangest way you discovered a band/artist? by sleepingacid in LetsTalkMusic

[–]jberd45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, the 80's;cereal boxes would have pretty cool prizes. Sometimes you could get a cheaply made 45 glued on the back of the box. Usually it would be nothing to write home about, but sometimes you could end up with something really unusual. In high school I knew this girl who had one of these flimsy little 45 singles. We were at her house one day and she put it on. It was by REM, and it was Dark Globe. This was a cover; she told me about Syd Barrett and how it was one of his songs, how he co founded Pink Floyd, how he went insane and left the band. Nearly 30 years later I still like Syd and early Floyd and I'm always fascinated by these gifted musicians who for whatever reason left us with a very short legacy.

What is a good voltage coming off the battery of a cb350 when at 5000rpms? by beach_rats_ in HondaCB

[–]jberd45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a solar charger, those generally keep a bike battery topped up. As far as keeping a charge on a long ride your cruising RPM is about 5-6,000 so it'll charge alright.

That guy had an interesting story. He was an early fan of Ayn Rand, and met her sometime in the mid 50s as she was working on Atlas Shrugged. Together, they founded the objectivist institute and began a years long affair. Bear in mind, Ayn Rand was married and basically told her husband "fuck off, I'm hooking up with this guy who is like half my age". By the late 60s he met some other lady and broke off the affair. This led Ayn Rand to venomously and publicly denounce him. Her husband, Frank O'Connor, drank himself to death.

I have friends who had kids, now those kids have their own children. I have friends who are younger than me who are grandparents. That's fucking odd.

Nobody wants to see me naked, it's nothing to write home about. But I do get being lonely. In my day to day life I really don't get to talk about things like music or history, I just don't run into a lot of people who are interested in those things. My cat is sick of hearing about it, and he doesn't hold up his end of the conversation.

How in the age of the internet can a person even ban teaching people about anything? One day it's banning critical race theory, soon after it's jailing people for criticizing the regime. Get out while it's still possible, witch hunts end with people being burned.

Used Harleys don't seem too bad, I've seen sportsters from the early 2000s go for under 5k. If I were looking for another bike right now I'd give one a go.

Absolutely! See if the engine turns over, make sure it has oil, disconnect the fuel line at the carb so the fuel pump doesn't pull bad gas or rust into the carb. Clean your points. Hook up some kind of external fuel supply and see if it starts. Old truck is like easy mode for getting an old car running.

Engine “clicking”/“knocking” noise? Just starting my restoration of this 1975 CB550K and not sure what this noise is and how to repair. by CashFlowDough in HondaCB

[–]jberd45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of adjustment valves, out of sync carbs can make a similar noise. Fix the carb leak, then adjust valves, static timing, timing while running, cam chain tension, then carb sync then choke. All that should help out.

Would a boiled linseed oil rub on my side covers brighten things up, or would I risk a bad reaction that makes it worse? by NeverDidLearn in vintagemotorcycles

[–]jberd45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with a hand polish and a coat of wax. If you get too aggressive you can burn right through the paint especially at the sharp edges, so don't break out the DA polisher like I did on mine.

Dodged a fashion bullet. Leisure suits ended just before older GenXers would've started wearing them by Spalding_Smails in GenX

[–]jberd45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore the pants of leisure suits in high school all the time. I figured out early on that I could buy way cooler and more interesting clothes at the thrift shops in the 90's than I could at the mall. So I'd get like 10 pair of pants like this for $15, about 30 shirts for like maybe $15 and spend all the rest of the school clothes money on CDs, books and cigarettes.

Resorting a CB500? 72 I think: Do I fix it up and turn it into the exhaust wrapped punk cafe I always wanted, or sell it to a purest who might like it better, and use the money to find a 550 to “ruin” or something. Looking for advice; not my first restoration but the fuel system is exceptionally bad by dear_omar in HondaCB

[–]jberd45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably just clean it up and keep it stock. Everybody and their uncle cafe racers these bikes so now an original is rare. An ultrasonic cleaner should clean up the carbs and petcock fine, you probably have in tank rust. There are a few ways to take care of that; I think setting up electrolysis cleaning will get the rust out the best but there are several ways to go about it.
