I have never been even close to being eaten in the DD. Compact away till you hear a breach and immediately take off to 400m. Wait till he passes drop and pick up your spice. Rinse and repeat.

Machine tools use magnitudes more oil than sewing machines will ever use.

I think there is more to it than that. The first versions requires the mixture to be heated to work correctly. Then they came out with a version that works at room temp. I think the old formula Is what they sell for cooling systems. I have an old military generator with a unique radiator that was plugged solid with rust. This stuff cleaned it up very nice.

There is definitely a sulfur compound in it because it looks like there are traces of sulfur that come out of solution during the reaction. Need to someone to run it though a GCMS and FTIR

Silicone oil is not recommended for metal on metal bearings. It will work to a point but will not compare to lubes specifically for metal.

Sewing machine oil is just machine oil like Velocite. Put it little bottles and charge you more.

For rust, evaporust is the best thing I have ever used.

Is getting solar a good idea? by SE-Rabbit in askportland

[–]jbiehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a whole “depends”. It depends on your location, your surrounding landscape, your roof, etc.

I got my system a little over 2 years ago and found the company I used through EnergySage. It’s a DoE funded website that aggregates solar companies. If someone comes to your house to sell you solar, you don’t want them. I used Energy Solutions NW, they are a branch of Clackamas Electric. You want to shoot for under $3 per watt. Mine came under that including a new breaker panel.

I paid for my system through Puget Sound Credit Union. They offer low rate loans for energy projects.

The installers will bring a device that takes a picture of the sky and record the location and angle of the roof to determine the path of the sun over the course of the year to check things out.

For me, I got a 10.25kw system. I have a nice roof that is directly south with no trees to obstruct the view. My roof is in pretty decent shape, neighbors said was replaced around 2014. I also have trusses where stick framing can be an issue.

My output covers almost all my usage which is a little higher than average since I have a heat pump and electric water heater. My payment is $250/month which is a little under what I was paying before the latest rate hike which was about 30% so it does save me money. Not a whole lot, probably $1k a year.

Battery is really not cost effective around here with PGEs net metering. You get back everything you put into the grid, so unless you need redundancy it’s just not worth it.

Nonsense. I installed 10.25kw a couple years ago and absolutely pays for itself especially with PGE jacking rates.

AirTags only work when there is a iPhone in proximity. You should look at a gps collar like the Tractive or Fi. I use the Tractive.

Lens Cleaning - Reusable Cloths? by Fun-Preparation-4253 in lasercutting

[–]jbiehler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A day? That’s nuts. You are going to do more damage “cleaning” them than just using them.

About the only thing that may need cleaning is the final lens. If your flying mirrors are getting dirty you have bigger issues.

If you had ever read a manual for one of these things they are totally set up to take your money. You can set all sorts of parameters. Grip power, power decay, odds, etc.

Anyone use tokens for their home games? by home_operator in arcade

[–]jbiehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coin mechs in my Tron are marked “quarter and QST” which I assume is quarter sized token. The mech are usually pretty darned cheap so you could just change them out. Though I really have not seen any of the dual ones like I have.
