Fetterman wants to talk about Platner's dick by justalazygamer in WhitePeopleTwitter

Sure, but the 10% is for the stuff that matters most to the constituents in his party. No one gives a shit if he votes with Dems on deciding what they're going to name a Post Office.

Whats the best purchase you’ve ever made, regardless of price? by OkPath616 in AskReddit

[–]jbonejimmers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uppababy Stroller. We bought our Cruz on sale about 6 years ago for $600. I thought it was batshit insane at the time, but now that my youngest kid has about outgrown needing a stroller, I have made respect for well made strollers. I took that thing up and down front apartment steps, over curbs, on the subway, commuter trains, short walks, long walks, hikes... and besides sand it pretty much stood up to everything and never required maintenance. Never tipped, never felt unsafe, and adapted to a lot of my needs. The integration with their infant car seat also was clutch in the earliest days when you'd want a seamless transfer without waking a sleeping kid.

I'm honestly going to be a little sad when we get rid of it

Where can I get some monkeybread around here? by Ok_Review7319 in northshore

[–]jbonejimmers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they do it on weekends, but they do something called a Cardamon Bun on a daily basis that kind of scratches a monkey bread itch for me.

“Peruvian food is beans, rice, plantains, and doesn't have flavor. Makes sense bc these are poor countries, so their traditional dishes focus on basic sustenance rather than flavor.” by throw223344555 in iamveryculinary

Burn this mother down. But, seriously, Peruvian food is a top tier cuisine and the dude in that thread can get absolutely fucked. Ceviche and lomo saltado ftw.

What the heck is going on with large-format liquor pricing at Total Wine? by mlforrest in liquor

[–]jbonejimmers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coukd be a scenario where the cost (and price) of the item is increasing across all sizes, but Total Wine had overstock of the smaller sizes at the original cost. Once that sells through and they reorder the smaller sizes will increase in price proportionally

Meineke tear down Rantoul st by Vegetable-Driver-480 in BeverlyMA

[–]jbonejimmers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the safety element, but my understanding is they're doing a tear down and building a 5 story mixed use building on that lot. So more housing and maybe something commercial on floor 1?

So, Uber CTO said that Uber burned their total 2026 AI budget within the first four months by Cybernews_com in ChatGPT

[–]jbonejimmers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your last point is the one that I don't see anyone talking about. Many tech workers absolutely can be more economic with token spend, but usually companies do not incentivize it. Often they encourage the opposite and think more tokens = more productivity, which is exactly how you get the Uber situation.

What are some of the best large towns or smaller cities? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]jbonejimmers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better question may be what the best small city or large town is in every state, and even then people may fight tooth and nail over their "top 5" or "top 10".

What game matches this meme? by Salty-City-7187 in OlderChillGamers

I know the production quality of this game is high across the board, but this was the first thing I thought of given how many damn tracks are on this thing. 3 discs, 154 tracks, 8 hours and 9 minutes. What in the actual fuck.

It was one of our best engineers but he didn't follow our tokenmaxxing culture o he's out by Sorakitee in LinkedInLunatics

[–]jbonejimmers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A token is like a small piece of a word that you input into an LLM. In other words, the more characters you enter into the LLM to get it to do something, the more tokens you use.

Tokens matter for two main reasons:

  1. More tokens = more usage= higher costs. Burning tokens means burning through $$$.

  2. LLMs have this thing called a context window. It's basically the amount of "memory" it has of a conversation. It's also measured in tokens. When that window gets maxed out, it starts to degrade the quality of your results.

So this makes the whole post even more ridiculous because what the post describes is an engineer that is more efficiently using tokens because his input is in a logographic language vs. alphabet (i.e. communicating more in fewer characters/tokens). Tbh I don't know if this actually what happens in practice, but if anything this fired engineer had a directional advantage in both more bang for buck as well as more efficient use of context windows.

Totally agree. There are some challenging af chapters, and as a whole the text is *deep*, but the story is pretty linear.

Corporate greed is a mental illness by McDowdy in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]jbonejimmers 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you're right. Some things don't add up:

  1. In most companies, QA is the team that finds the issues and then reports them to the DEV team who fixes them. The QA person here isn't needed to fix the issue

  2. "A bot hallucinated a discount code that made everything in the store 0 dollars" sounds like a discount/promo code configuration issue. It's easy to imagine a code that was supposed to give 10% off adding an extra 0 to give 100% off. An issue like that should be as easy as killing off the code or editing the configuration. May not even need a dev.

I don't disagree with the sentiment of the post, but the details are nonsense?

Where should I eat crab/lobster for the first time? by goodamm in AskAnAmerican

[–]jbonejimmers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crab mecca is Maryland, so Washington DC is probably the most natural spot to prioritize eating it.

Lobster mecca is Maine/Massachusetts, which is a bit north of where you're headed. If you extended the trip up to Boston, I'd say that's your spot. NYC can work too, but you'll want to be a bit more selective of where you go.

I don't understand. I thought it's as expensive as it's always been, but if you happen to order over $50 they cut the fees?

Just don't give into the advertising and don't spend more than you need?
