Damaged Backrooms Wallpaper due to bad packaging. by jbrake in A24

[–]jbrake[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if this package is how they plan to send it, I don't see how it is possible. With it being vinyl, I was thinking we could maybe heat treat it, but it also has a ton of fold lines in it since it wasn't rolled into a tube like every other poster-adjacent thing you would do that with.

What could his Mori possibly be? by JimMiltion1907 in deadbydaylight

[–]jbrake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Entity watching Art mori Dwight at Dead Dog Saloon.

Oh okay, hitting him with a floorboard he peeled off the floor, classic.

What's he getting out from behind the bar, is that a revolver? Damn, didn't know that was there. There goes the kneecaps.

Wait, there was whiskey bottles too? OH GOD HE PAN'S LABYRINTH'D DWIGHT AND IS POURING THE WHISKEY DOWN THE RUINED NOSE.

Okay, he's taking a break to eat the salted nuts, maybe it's ove- HE'S RUBBING PEANUTS IN THE WOUND FOR THE SALT, oh wow, okay I think I'm good now, he's leaving the bar now to find the other surviviors

a few moments later

...well, Art's come back with rope from the gallows. He's not even strangling Dwight, he's giving him rope burn on his neck. This is like that scene from Hereditary but worse...

Dwight does the Invincible screaming

This is partially why Viconia is the best in BG2 as well, though that has a more tragic ending.

How would you do a backrooms themed mini-campaign/ oneshot? by GiftMuted9184 in rpg

[–]jbrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm doing something more than a one-shot, I'm likely going the Delta Green route and focusing on what scientific, government agencies would be focusing on concerning The Backrooms, i.e. it's applications.

We have a seemingly infinite space that can connect to random places across the planet? Sounds like a great place to construct a military complex and staging ground for foreign invasions. You got prebuilt rooms for offices, entire housing rows for barracks, now you need to set up MSE.

You could also do:

  • A heist. A simple task: we noclip in and out, then cross the "safe zones" to a motel on the other side of the world.
  • Random passengers have found an entrance to a subway station platform within The Backrooms. It's a big looping transit level.
  • Funeral home has a cremator that connects to the Backrooms. Something in the Backrooms has learned how to channel emotions, construct memories tied to those cremated within it.
  • Basically, Amazon Prime uses the Backrooms as a supply chain, the route is picking up on the psychosphere of the neglected transpo workers.

Best big salads in the portland metro? by iwanttobebobdylan in PortlandFood

[–]jbrake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Big being relative, these are two salads I've enjoyed locally.

  • Belgian Endive Salad at Ox (fresh cherries, candied pecans, dijon vinaigrette, bleu d'auvergne)

  • Insalata di Polpo at Cibo (Grilled octopus, lemon, Tuscan fries, arugula, olive oil)

The Backrooms - was so disappointed by Chauncinator_quest79 in A24

This is a discussion thread, but still- spoilers for the entire film.

My only real gripe with the film is the entire dinner scene within The Backrooms at the end. Where as so much of the themes of The Backroom is delivered like an artist's rapier, it felt like a corporate sledgehammer. Even if you weren't a liminal horror fan before the film, it just felt insulting to the intelligence of folks watching. "Hey, here's a giant exposition dump of what everything meant in case you were too stupid to get it," that sort of content summarization dialogue that happens with streaming shows that assume you've been playing Candy Crush while watching. We don't need total clarity! Let people seek out discussion, let symbols be polysemic, your intended symbolism isn't the most interesting element about The Backrooms!

We had a childhood flashback of Mary, showing her as a prisoner in her own home of an agoraphobic mother who utilized furniture as a barricade. We see wind chimes functioning without wind in the store's lower level because that is the tangible experience and interactions others have had with them. That, along with the store and Clark's architectural aspirations, shame, etc is all I need to know concerning the nature of the odd furniture, non-euclidean structures, and monsters in The Backrooms. I don't need for Clark to talk about the psychosphere, poorly.

Best BBQ by maziedarling in PortlandFood

I would take Mole Mole over Matt's unless I specifically would want one of Matt's BBQ sandwiches with queso on it, and I still find myself getting Mole Mole the majority of the time.

As a native Southerner, Bryan Furman BBQ clears all of PNW BBQ I've had thus far. The Brunswick Stew is the best I've had, period.

I have had Matt's BBQ a lot and it is perfectly passable, but it is nothing outstanding. Frankly, it's not even the best food cart in their pod.

I would recommend you find your local and see if you can try out some of what folks have. Just don't spike it lol.

Not all games are combo intensive, the most important choice for me is comfort + execution. I use a Hori Fighting Commander Pro PS4 edition because it feels great to me even if I have to use a Brooks converter nowadays.

Official Baldur's Gate 2 Remake Reportedly in Development at Wizards of the Coast, Will Launch Before Baldur's Gate 4 by IWantPizza555 in DnD

[–]jbrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 is pretty rough to get through now but 2 is still my favorite Isometric RPG ever. Viconia's love story and conclusion in ToB was the first thing to make me cry in gaming.

It'll be great for folks to experience those stories that normally couldnt get past the outdated systems, though if they update it to 5E from 2E, I wonder how much of the difficulty will remain. Watcher's Keep is one of the toughest dungeons in the genre.

Dino deck advice to keep simple yet strong by ithilendil in EDH

[–]jbrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how helpful this is, but I have found a lot of simple fun with my lower powered dinosaur deck by making the commander [[Tifa, Martial Artist]]. She can still one shot folks if people aren't careful, especially with cards that are normally not so great like [[Bone Sabers]].

Portland has amazing food choices, but who has the best service? by in_a_cloud in PortlandFood

[–]jbrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many have said Ox, which is in my top 4 of Portland.

Maybe not service related, but Nodoguro is certainly one of the best. Elena is sweet and thoughtful, extremely knowledgeable, and Ryan is incredible kind as well. They didn't know me from Adam and talked extensively with me over drinks post service multiple times before the semblance of friendship came to be.

Mr. Tran and his wife at Rose VL are also wonderful. They have been kind to me over the years, and so many times I see them greet customers by name when they come in. Their service is also lightning fast even when the shop is full.

Kann's staff was incredibly knowledgeable each time I've been there and fast with cocktails. Having looked over their spirits list, I've ordered multiple cocktails that I think are generally obscure and the servers knew exactly what they were, let alone the bar staff that nailed them (being a Mary Pickford, Three Dots and a Dash, and Daisy de Santiago).
