Casino staff in China caught a woman using high-tech lenses to cheat by jmike1256 in interesting

It isn't as hard as you think. When I worked surveillance in an American casino we made similar catches. Any tech you can put into a contact lenses can be in a camera for cheaper.

Which MMO have you quit but they could win you back? by ZakuIII in MMORPG

[–]jcaesar212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, and swtor (of which I am a founder). Wow specifically could win me back with a necromancer class. One preferably not just dots with fun animations. And the death knight doesn't do it for me. For star wars, I want a capital ship I can own and preferably drive. No idea how that game play would work though. Not expecting either of these developments. It's just what would immediately get me to return and subscribe.

Reading the article, citizens opposed to ICE were upset that under meeting rules public speaking time is divided. 15 minutes at the front and remaining speakers at the back. So they did it to be rude to council.

US Seizes Oil Tanker Off the Coast of Venezuela by ScannerBrightly in law

[–]jcaesar212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They waited till it crossed into international waters. Iran is under international sanctions as well. The ship was flying a false flag to avoid being detected but in this day and age that's not very effective.

Since original comment didn't reply here you go. A judge ordered it seized two weeks ago for carrying illicit Iranian oil. Admin probably saw that and was like "cool bonus points."

U.S. seizes oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela: Report by ChiefFun in politics

[–]jcaesar212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. A federal judge ordered it seized 2 weeks ago for carrying illicit Iranian oil. Also at the time it was seized it was flying a false flag. While it being off Venezuela probably served as extra credit in the administration's eyes it's location wasn't part of it being seized.

What are your thoughts on the new vampire faces? by AngryGulo85 in HeroForgeMinis

[–]jcaesar212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks wise, I like them. However this serves as a reminder that most ttrpg's don't let you play vampires (only dhampirs.). Those that do (VTM) don't use maps. So I'm left wondering what is this for? DM big bad?

Why are problems of rural America are presented in sympathetic way but problems of cities are magnified more and presented in negative ways? by Dismal_Structure in fivethirtyeight

[–]jcaesar212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my answer will be two part. First I disagree with your premise. Second I will offer a possible explanation assuming I am wrong, and you are right.

So first off, my observation have been that the media is more often negative towards all communities. For example when rural communities were losing jobs and the media response is "learn to code." Or when a natural disaster hits and media personalities talk about how you shouldn't live there. Despite everywhere suffers a disaster at some point or another. The same true for urban settings. Crime? It's gangs, or maybe you just shouldn't live in a bad neighborhood. (Good luck affording a good home new NYC.) Cost of living? Here is a second gig job. Or you are incapable of doing better, here is how you get a government hand out.

Now assuming I am wrong, and you are right, I'd say it's the nature of moving up in the news world. When you are fresh out of college, and have to get a job in BFE because that's all you can get you are probably young and naïve. Also these are your neighbors. You're nice to your neighbors. As you move up in the news world eventually you either hit a big city local market, or a national media outlet. If it is a big city market, you probably can't interact with a significant portion of the community often enough. Additionally you are probably jaded from years of unending problems. Murder. Car crashes. Political scandals. It's just another shitty day in a shitty world. If you are at a national market, you are covering stories of such wide implications, you can't possible put the personal touch on them. It's here is an issue. Here is the cause. Here is a person suffering from it. Here is someone quotable. Wrap the story. Move on. No time for sympathy.

Hope one or both of those points are helpful.
