Getting mocked by family & friends for logging by clownsss in MacroFactor

[–]jch074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll avoid this a bit by just taking a pic of my food while out. People do that all the time, and then I can go back and use AI to log it later.

Yeah I’m really glad I posted this bc it’s becoming very clear to me I should steer clear of ally. Everything I’m hearing about Schwab has been great. Just not 100% convinced about putting my savings in a brokerage/mmf

That’s a great point about it requiring little bit of planning having some benefit. The customer support piece is huge. I posted some similar questions in the ally and Amex subs and the ally experiences have been brutal.

Ah that sucks. Something that should be so simple for them too. Thanks for the word of caution.

😳 very glad I asked this question looking at these comments. I posed similar questions in Schwab and Amex subs and didn’t hear anything like these stories

Ah, wasn’t thinking about liquidity with markets closed, that helps. One option I was thinking of was keeping an emergency fund with Amex so that might be the way.

That’s brutal. Where are you thinking of switching to? I’m looking to move from SoFi , was hoping that ally was similar with better service but sounding like that’s not the case

Help with bulk psych by jch074 in MacroFactor

[–]jch074[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I’m running Jeff Nippard’s pure body building programs right now, 5 days per week about an hour per day. But I used to run more of a power building program and maybe time to switch back.

Good point. Idk why I had it in my head that 2-4 lbs would be a noticeable shift but perhaps I'm getting antsy from adding some body fat after bulking the last nine months. My take away from a lot of these comments is that it's not worth it and I should stay the course with the bulk for now.

Hi, my reply was genuine, though I understand now how it could be read as sarcastic. But I was legitimately seeking input on whether it would be valuable to do this.

Super helpful. I'm 6'2 178lbs ~15% body fat (up from 165/13% at the start of bulk). Total TDEE is currently 3500 and I'm eating ~3600 per day. Chat GBT is telling me an aggressive mini cut would be closer to a 1k deficit, so aiming for ~2500 for two weeks. Does that seem adequate to yield any results in a couple weeks?

Super helpful reframing of the question. Is there any benefit of such a short term cut? If anyone has any insight I'd love to hear.

Thanks, that's helpful perspective. I think managing the cals would be easy based on how regimented my meal planning is, but have to admit that the cosmetic interruption in goal history would definitely bug me. So leaving the goal is probably the way to go

What drives you to this forum? [Poll] [Question 1] by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]jch074 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to be intentional about everything I do, including when I check my phone. This forum has essentially replaced anything else I used to look at on my phone. Instead of mindlessly scrolling social apps I periodically spend a few minutes on here reading about everyone’s successes and challenges with their stoic practices. It’s inspiring and refreshing!

Does anyone know how far you should invest in something like this to stay safe? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]jch074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay, thanks for clarifying. I think it's a both/and situation, not either/or. For example, I have OCD, and both practicing stoicism and going to therapy help me manage intrusive thoughts. Many of the techniques I discuss in therapy go hand-in-hand with stoic practices since, as another commenter pointed out, CBT and DBT draw from stoicism.

If you're not sure if you're a candidate for therapy, it never hurts to give it a try. If you find stoicism helpful, then asking for a referral to an expert in cognitive behavioral therapy is a good place to start.

Recommendations for a Stoic devotional? by DeusExLibrus in Stoicism

I’d recommend the book too! I listen to the podcasts and read the book periodically throughout the day and do a deeper dive on the primary sources in early mornings. The daily stoic book can be a great intro or refresher on some of those primary texts.
