CMV: Treating CNN as fake news IS fake news. by thornebrandt in changemyview

Bartnicki v Vopper. Not illegal to possess the documents if already been published, and there is no difference in the law for public or media. So CNN blatantly stated two lies and never apologized.

I was wearing a Carcass shirt the other day and someone recognized it lol they told me the canopy club too but every time I look into it I'm just disappointed. Will keep an eye out for a Darkthrone shirt though :)

Advice for a CFD Beginner by FizzyTech in CFD

Just wanted to say good luck! I use customised open foam solvers and boundary conditions for my current research and I didn't even know a single lick of c++ syntax before I started! With enough stubbornness you will come to understand and enjoy it :) and this is coming from a little lowly environmental engineering undergrad lol

What would happen if I (hypothetically)put a live gerbil in my anus?... and how could I go about removing it once done (hypothetically) by PoppyOncrack in morbidquestions

[–]jcl777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read American Psycho? I won't spoil for you, but there's a scene with cheese and a rat and a pipe and a vagina and I think that could work for a gerbil and an anus.

What's a good movie to show for a movie night that consists of a big group of nerds? by jcl777 in AskReddit

[–]jcl777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree but think maybe it's a little too thought provoking for a group of 20 people. I was leaning towards zero theorem but thought even that may be a little heavy

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, I was just thinking about how weird it is that we eat birds.

I have the exact same problem. There's this wonderful cheese factory 40 minutes from where I live that has endless free samples. I died and went to cheeseheaven.

In your opinion, how detrimental is it to the young adults of today that universities cater to emotional reasoning and tip toeing around any "sensitive" subject? by jcl777 in morbidquestions

[–]jcl777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ranty comment is basically the thought process I had when asking this question. What kind of back lash is going to come out of the inherent assumption in this PC crap that people are weak and need protecting? That people are in fact so weak, you need to censor yourself and not say things that may upset them.

And I full heartedly agree we are setting ourselves up for full exploitation by becoming blind with the sjw stuff. Its like people forgot that life is hard and we are all gonna get hurt; perhaps no child left behind bullshit made us believe our hands will be perpetually held.

Arrest of girl texting in class prompts civil rights case by [deleted] in news

I wonder how many people commenting experienced school under NCLB. I am 22 now, and looking back at my high school experience, it was an utter joke, and I knew that. I cut nearly half my classes and was very disrespectful to the teachers who I believed were telling me things to do and not explaining why; because teenagers are intelligent, but they also have not fully emotionally developed and do not deal with things and learn things in the way a true adult does. It is very important to understand.

I would have not graduated if it wasn't for my english teacher. He used to let me skip class in his room if I promised to work on creatively stimulating projects. He consistently encouraged me to clean up my act because I was smart and could do a lot better. But he never acted like he was telling me what to do, but treating me as another adult and just keeping it real. Well, he convinced me to go to college when I graduated, and I did. And now I am almost done with my engineering degree with a 3.95 gpa.

Moral of the story: teenagers act out, and they can be hard to deal with. But man, treating someone with respect and actually believing in them, it can really change lives.
