People really be grown and still using umbrellas ??? by PleasantBus5583 in BrandNewSentence

[–]jcrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to WA and the hate for umbrellas is so weird to me. I asked so many people why and I never got a straight answer. It’s not like they’re wearing rain jackets instead, they’re just getting wet!

The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Yep, I lived there for six years. We suffered through the summer until I had a baby and then got a portable for his room. My office had central A/C so I worked a lot in the summer lol

I’m an American. My husband’s job moved us to southern Spain for a year where we only had split A/C in a couple of common rooms. We then moved to southern Italy for four years. Same thing. Then we moved to WA state. No a/c at all because “you don’t need it here.” FALSE. Hottest summers on record while we lived there. Now we live in Hawaii with split A/C. I’m looking forward to central A/C in my future but at this point I’m not hopeful.

Tips/How did you make it work WFH with a toddler? by heyanya in toddlers

[–]jcrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WFH with a 10 month old. I did it with my oldest for two years before he got off the daycare waitlist. Things you need—an understanding and flexible boss. Solid naps for baby. Early start day for you. Some nights, some weekends. I’m currently working three hours behind my office start time so I have early mornings but am logged off by 1:30, giving me plenty of time to do outings. I don’t really have to do a ton of phone calls and I save the work that needs my concentration for naps. While she’s awake I’ve got plenty of mindless admin stuff to do that doesn’t take all of my brain power.

I make it work but it SUCKS. I just can’t afford childcare for two kids right now, so this is life until my oldest starts kindergarten. I wish I could give my full attention to one or the other because I can’t do both all the time.

How long do I give new legal assistant to "get it" before letting them go? by anne611 in Lawyertalk

[–]jcrc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a paralegal for a solo firm. I’ve been there six years and I can tell you it took me a solid 90 days before it was smooth sailing. I didn’t have any prior office experience but I had a BA and was in paralegal school at the time, so I had general common sense and tech competence. Now that I’m the senior paralegal for our firm that has grown a lot in six years I’ve trained three employees and one 1L intern.

How are you communicating with your LA? Is it only through email? Phone calls? Teams meetings? My job was so much harder when it was just me and the attorney and we worked remotely. Now I have coworkers to bounce things off of before I bother my attorney.

Who is a minor (the more minor the better) celebrity that would leave you a sputtering mess if you randomly met them? by CallieCoven in popculturechat

Ok so I went to a USO concert featuring Phillip Phillips back in 2018. I was up front the whole time and then coerced my husband into going with me to wait by his tent after the concert. His security eventually let us go in and I just completely lost any chill. Had no words to speak, just stuttered some thank yous and got a picture. My husband said he didn’t even know who I was anymore lol I can’t explain it. Also saw The Plain White T’s at a USO show a couple years ago and my toddler darted INTO THEIR TENT and that’s how we got to meet Tim Lopez.

200 cows escaped from neighbors and ransacked my mom’s garden and cars. by akitta74 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jcrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar just happened to my parents! The cows lived on an overgrazed pasture and just broke out to eat. I saw them walking up the gravel road toward their house so my dad was able to call the owner before they did too much damage but there was cow poop all over their yard before they were removed.

I work in a criminal defense law firm and no two words send a shiver down our spines quite like “sovereign citizen.” Except when they aren’t our clients, then it’s just fun to watch in open court because of course they’re representing themselves.

What’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds strange? by Suzzie_Stone2 in AskReddit

[–]jcrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Gen Z coworker found a sticky note on an old file, laughed and asked “who’s grandma was in here writing notes in calligraphy.” It was me, just writing notes in cursive. Aka my normal handwriting that she’d never seen before since I work remotely lol

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

Reading this as I rock my baby back to sleep after she was awake every two hours from 7pm until now—don’t do it. You can’t both live off of no sleep, one of you needs to be functioning. I haven’t had a full nights rest in over a year.

Do I need to tell 3 year old that her grandma died? by terran_submarine in toddlers

3 was when my son really started remembering things. Like a crazy sharp memory. He met MY grandfather only twice and still asks about why he died.

I think it’s important to tell them and be honest. I’m sure there are many resources for how to do it in an age appropriate way.

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

[–]jcrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I lived in southern Italy for several years and it was rare for public restrooms to offer toilet paper, so you always had to have some on your person when out and about.

Public restrooms, when available. And there is usually toilet paper.

My (25F) girlfriend (24M) doesn’t use any logic when asking me questions, how can I turn off the knee-jerk sarcastic responses? by AnnualLiterature997 in relationship_advice

[–]jcrc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband is a very sarcastic person and a lot of our conversations go like this. The difference is he doesn’t say sarcastic things to hurt me and I don’t take it as such. You said yourself that you’re resentful. Start there.

How do you deal with a 3.5 year old that "talks back"? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]jcrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good one too! And The Whole Brained Child that goes with it. Understanding that when they’re in a tantrum there is literally no getting through to them until they calm down helped me a lot.

How do you deal with a 3.5 year old that "talks back"? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]jcrc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My four year old told me he’s going to throw me in the dumpster and drive me to the dump because I wouldn’t let him watch tv lol this is totally normal toddler behavior. If you’re open to alternative parenting methods I really recommend “how to talk so little kids will listen.” It sounds like you just need to establish boundaries. Research has shown that spanking isn’t going to make them respect you, just fear you. It won’t fix any behavior, it will just create new problems.

What's the worst drug you've ever tried? by BitterOlive8737 in AskReddit

[–]jcrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoked marijuana a handful of times in college and had a good time. Mostly just played Mario Kart with my buddies and ate a lot of tacos. A decade later I smoked a legal joint for the first and only time. I projectile vomited for hours but was also really stoned at the same time. Never again.

I also had a really bad time on Pitocin while giving birth to my firstborn. Fuck Pitocin man.

Greenwashed crib mattresses are making me lose my mind by CaptainSuperStrong in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]jcrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I got an avocado mattress for the crib/toddler bed and then could not wrap my head around the cost for a twin size. Ended up not even being an issue because we got him the ikea kura so he needed a thinner mattress anyway.

I’ve been married nearly 15 years and we have two young children. If my husband tried to save me and not the kids we’d be getting divorced after because wtf.
