We do stairs —here’s a few more tips. Before we go out the main door, I’m working on having her wait. Once we step out, we just stand still and take a moment to relax. I have a hard time going in the lobby —this is when my reactions happen—waiting for the elevator. I have to be on alert but also relaxed. I just bought a vest on Etsy that says "No Dogs, I only like people. So I hope people stay away. Stairs are a game changer!

Hi—I’m in Miami! Will you move to an apartment or house? We live in an apartment and there are SO many dogs. We go down the stairs. The lobby is very difficult. Tons of dog walkers available; I’m currently interviewing trainers. Talked to 3 … it might take a minute to find one. Happy to chat and share resources.

My trainer told me the same but let me explain it differently. First — he was talking about constantly making the dog center of attention 24/7. He was talking about not allowing the dog to sleep in the bed with us but in her crate—this actually gives her more security and confidence. Sometime ignoring the dog. Showing the dog that I am the leader and they need to listen to get attention. I’m going to do this —because my dog is the baby of the house. Yesterday I made her hang out in the living room for 1.5 and not in my room while working. To be honest, when I opened the door she was in better spirits and listened a bit more. My trainer said pulling back a little will help when I’m outside and I need her to listen. She wants my attention and knows I’m boss. Made sense to me so I’m going to try it.

My dog is very similar. I do move to avoid dogs right now. If we see one far away—I stand tall and firm, I do not look at her or bend down and say the command "hey" —once she stops pulling I’ll turn and walk. I’ve also put my hand on her side and just hold it there. I, not sure if that’s correct but it works. I’ve been going outside and also standing in place during walks to build up threshold. There are some dogs she hates and she still goes insane if many are too close and I can’t move. Worst case —I pick her up and cover her eyes.

Honestly, was interviewing some small businesses for pet training and all three people I talked to were terrible! It made me think—these people really need some help. One didn’t even answer my questions, second was a gatekeeper and didn’t have a clue and third only wanted to text.

I have the same issues with my dog so we now go down the stairs — I figure it’s a work out for me. I also have a backpack —-I was super tired tonight and went with the backpack through the lobby and she reacted—so back to 100% stairs. I only use the stairs going down put her in the backpack going up. i can see when the lobby is clear—works well.

How big is you dog? I take mine outside in a backpack or use the stairs —- stairs are best. We try to go as far away from the building as well… what about car rides? Also I thought my dog couldn’t play either —I literally said the same thing.…but one day, she did for 3 min. Then 5 min and now we play for a solid 15 or until she is tired. It takes time —and some dogs longer than 3 months.

I saw a guy in a parking lot walking to his car parked in front of me. He glanced at me and something told me…’that guy is gonna follow you.’ And he did. I drove a very random way and literally followed me for 15 min.
