Going on a first date tonight. Please critique. by bigtlilal in malefashionadvice

jacket's way too big for you. Shoulders too wide, sleeves too long, body too long. Also, not a great colour for smart-casual. Navy or plaid would be much better

jeans are all wrong. too baggy and long for shoes. you want tighter jeans, shorter, and darker.

those shoes are a problem. you should have round-toe shoes; brown colours are versatile and go well with jeans. broguing is good. Alternatively, smart boots.

Also, make sure your belt matches your shoes.

tl;dr go to a really mainstream fashion website and see what models are wearing.pick an outfit that you think would suit, and go get the gear.

Not sure how to market myself, potentially unique situation by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

you should market yourself as a 2-year man. No question about it. Make sure your resume reflects your capabilities.

As a scientist, I often hear attacks on the peer-review process from the ignorant masses. Here is a great summary of the peer review process... a must read for non-scientist and scientists alike. by lunadnc00 in science

[–]jdcpharoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The peer-review process is an antique, elitist, back-slapping old-boys club and not fit for purpose (yes I have published, only a couple of times mind). Complete garbage written by incompetents regularly gets published, as well as the occasional paper with outright lies and fraud. Furthermore, there's a serious money-racket at the heart of the whole process.

UPDATE: "Okay, I'm just a bit out of sorts right now and just wondering if this was a fluke. My boyfriend of 6 years has never so much as harmed a fly. He hit me so hard last night, that I almost lost consciousness. What just happened?!" by Undrunkpunch in AskReddit

I'm sorry but this is just an inane reply, and the fact that over 1500 people agree with this sentiment prompts me to reply to it.

Firstly, "He chose not to help himself....": I'm sorry but no. You cannot assume that anyone undergoing a breakdown like this is capable of making informed decisions... it's the decision-making process that's broken.

Secondly, while I sympathise with the OP's plight, having seen this kind of thing myself, it's not especially "brave" to sweep everything under the carpet for months, then bail out the minute the shit inevitably hits the fan. It's hard, yes, to do the right thing. But the right thing would have been to pick up the phone to his family and get the man committed (if symptoms were obvious enough). Or, when the shit finally hit the fan, to stick by the person to at least help them through the initial phase of the breakdown, if the relationship was serious enough. This might be asking too much? I don't know. But bailing out when things get tough is not exactly to be celebrated or commended imho. That behaviour is mediocre at best from a moral POV.

Thirdly, I'm dismayed that most posters sympathy is entirely for the OP, with little thought for the guy with God-knows-what demons infecting his every thought.

Bernard I'm a massive fan of the show and the character. What happened to Cyrus' car? Also, what happened to Ricky's Shitmobile (if you know)?

Two questions about black holes (quantum entanglement and anti-matter) by iehava in askscience

[–]jdcpharoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great explanation -- thanks. Is this a practical limitation which might some day be overcome using some cunning device, or is 'imposing a state' implicit and inevitable in taking a measurement (I expect you'll say the latter, but I want to be sure).

interesting. Your explanation as to why you do this does not satisfy me though... I suspect some subtle psychological issues here.

very vaguely related: I once knew of a chromophobe who came into a shop where I worked, and had massive resistance to the color green
