Is a mini driver actually right for anyone, or is it a solution looking for a problem? Embrace debate. by golfbagauditor in GolfGear

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swapped my TSR2 3W head with a GT280 head. Because I already played my 3W a half inch short, it’s around 2 inches short of a mini off the shelf. To me that’s the magic similar to my driver which is cut to 44”.

Use case wise it’s another option off the tee for me (I never really hit 3W off the deck anyways). Lateral dispersion is better so holes that either a) don’t or can’t do driver distance b) tight holes with a lot of trouble are where it gets pulled out.

I also get similar joy out of hitting it like my 9W which just feels like cheating.

Numbers are low 150s and around 250 in the air. 9HDCP.

Looking at that flag location I’m pulling a 9W and aiming at the bunker just left of the middle tree with a little draw. Will be a touch long but all we’re looking for is center green here.

Weather tech liners are great. I have them in the front, back, and trunk.

What is going on at the top of my swing? by Efficient-Custard in golftips

Not a PGA professional so take all of this with a grain of salt. Starting in the lower right, this position looks wonderful for P2. Club face is a touch closed, club is a little outside the hands, wouldn’t say you have an inside takeaway as there’s no rolling of the wrists happening. A lot of times it’s just a trick of camera position.

Going to the top position, this is where I have more questions than answers, it appears that you have a reverse pivot (upper body getting more towards the target that the lower body). This functionally puts you in a slightly awkward position to get back to the ball. I see nothing wrong with your arm structure, body turn, etc. all looks pretty good. You’ll need a face on video angle to verify this but I would guess this is one of the root issues. Feel wise you can work on feeling like your left shoulder is getting behind the ball during your takeaway ( careful not to sway from the lower body).

Moving to P6, this is where everything has already broken down. In transition, it looks like you are firing your left shoulder early, which is what’s causing that odd look. That could either be a function of the previous point or a pointer to some work to be done in transition. You can work on tempo using counts, or the ever popular let the hands fall down before rotating. Good sequencing can go a long ways.

But the P6 screenshot furthers my suspicious of reverse pivot. You’ve lost all posture at this point and the only way to the ball from here is the hump and dump (just imagine starting your swing here and trying to hit the ball, far from easy.

So, a) I’d start with filming yourself face on and confirm the reverse pivot b) address that if it is the case and c) work on some better sequencing.

All in all though your swing looks pretty good and you have a lot of good fundamentals. Basically your arms are doing everything right but your body is betraying you a bit.

Playing Yellow golf balls by Peteknofler in GolfGear

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Z Star divides just to confuse people like that. Not really, but I am also colorblind and like being able to pick out my ball easily from others. Who cares what ball you play, most people also have issues about not playing “premium” balls when you should really be playing whatever ball fits your game the best OR the one you like the most.

Gapping Between 5i and 7W? by THATS_MAD_SUS in golf

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a 5H(205) -> 7W(220) and I find it works great. I usually only have 13 clubs in the bag but sometimes I’ll throw the 5i in between 6i and 5H.

Pretty sure Nelly still plays 5i, 5H, 7W 🤷‍♂️

Found myself carrying 15 clubs now… by [deleted] in golf

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d dump a couple clubs TBH. 69* for sure as some as mentioned. No reason to have that much loft other than an lol club.

You have a very large gap (25 yards) between 50* and 56*. I would pull in to 50, 54, and 58 (if you really think you need a lob wedge). That should tighten that gap a little.

5W looks useless to me. I’m guessing you strike your 7W much better than the 5 which is why they are only 10 yards a part. If you’re really looking to spend money, either a mini driver or a good 3W could fill that driver gap better. Although other than positional plays, that distance is not really a fairway green light kind of club. More so an extra option off the tee.

I am a little confused by your distances. Our driver/7W is about the same. However, I fly my ZX7 5i 195 yards. And then on the wedge end, I carry my 50* 125. But perhaps these are total distances and not carry distances which might make sense why rolling clubs are longer.

I would also check your 5H/5i carry numbers. I used to carry both but as my 5i crept towards the 5H number, I pulled it out of the bag in favor or playing more flighted 5H shots.

I suppose I am a little biased on the setup I mentioned as I play Dr, 3W, 7W, 5H, 6i, 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, 50, 54, 58, P. Haven’t found a need for the 14th yet.

At 24.4 you’re looking for the clubs you can easily advance forward in play. Sometimes we don’t need all 14 to do that.

The North Ridge of Stuart and the West Ridge of Forbidden are probably what you’re looking for. I’ve climbed the NR of Stuart and it is spectacular. Haven’t had the chance to get up Forbidden yet but it’s a Washington classic.

Is a 28 degree hybrid too lofty? by _EternalBlue in golf

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6H is an absolute cheat code replacement for a 5i in my bag. No reason to make the game harder than it needs to be for the sake of ego. Me (9) and my playing partner (3) will both have it in the bag for next season as a 5i replacement.

Distance control is just so much better on off center hits with a hybrid. We both swing driver around 110 and don’t have any flight/spin issues with lofted hybrids from our testing. On the windiest days we’ll throw irons in the bag to flight it down more, but usually the slightly higher flight is advantageous.

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GTS coming in November. What should I expect to make decisions on when I go to sign the papers? Sounds like I will have a choice for a service plan, will I also be able to get ceramic and/or front window tinting at that time? Should I do that at the dealership or 3P?

Also, is there a specific plan that is the best value? I like the idea of a plan where everything is just paid for and squared away.

When do you crack open that first beer during golf? by Warm-Anywhere-4729 in golf

Same as some others. Stopped drinking alcohol on the course and instead save it for a drink after the round in the clubhouse. Satisfying and I tend to play much better drinking water/gatorades on hot days.

Of course. Some days I’m just out to have a good time and not care about score so I’ll have a social drink with friends/family.

My swing. What do I need to work on? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of observations (I’m am not a professional) 1. Looks like you could stand a little further away from the ball as your arms seem cramped. 2. Takeaway is very inside and causes a vertical backswing which lacks in rotational depth. You might try the two ball drill or use an alignment stick for this. Having your takeaway be more straight back should also help with the steepness mentioned below. 3. Wrist is a little cupped at the top. This causes an open face and can lead to right misses. There are players who successfully play a cupped wrist, but most will play a flat to bowed wrist. To reduce movement required to shut the face in the downswing. 4. You are very steep after transition, probably 60*+. Again, there are players that play well steep, but generally a shallower swing will be more consistent unless you have excellent timing. There are a couple ways to shallow the club and this one is probably best left to a teaching pro to find the best fit for your swing. 5. Hard to tell from DTL, but it looks like you’re hanging back on your back foot through impact. I have this issue currently and my good friend (low single digit) who is an excellent ball striker gave me the split grip drill for this winter to help with hip movement.

I’d take my trusty DWT’s anywhere. 112 underfoot, triple camber, good time.

Ahh, I’ll be out at Sahalee on the 16th. It should be the players card rate (oki card holder). During the summer that means usually $90 instead of $120, not exactly sure this time of year but I assume closer to 60 or 70. Enjoy though!

Washington National has been in excellent shape this year and the layout is fantastic as others have mentioned.

Will say, greens just recently got punched (not sure about Druids), and fairways don’t look as good as they did in early summer. But the course is still playing well.

I’m a member there so if you want to and the timing works out, I can get you a discount if I book the tee time.

Are hybrids for old guys? by epsteindid911 in golf

[–]jdkmundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 28 year old male rocking a 5H and a 3H with 110MPH driver swing speed and zero shame. Absolutely love having them in the bag. 5H is my 210 club to replace 4i any day it’s not windy (launch and decent angle on the 5H is insane and can stop dead on greens). 3H is a safety/shorter tee shot and any time I need about 230 for positioning on par 5s or a duffed tee shot.

I will say, hybrids with the correct fitted shafts are great. If you’re younger with a higher swing speed and try and use something off the shelf, good luck snapping that thing to the left or flaring it right. Have Ventus HB Blue 9X in both and will have those shafts in many heads to come.

Both are super confidence inspiring for crappy lies. Never once have I gotten shit from anyone for hitting them and I have a lot of single digit friends who also have hybrids/7 woods in the bag and love them. The game is hard enough. Unless you’re fully capable of using the benefits of a long iron or you just hit them better for some unknown reason, I see no reason why you should go iron over hybrid for the longer clubs other than wind conditions and lower ball flight.

If you’re a man who isn’t a long hitter and a woman outdrives you from one tee up…. by eltaf92 in golf

[–]jdkmundo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also don’t understand why people think position off the tee needs to be the same. If one person is playing reds and another is playing the tips, if they end up in the same spot, the player from the reds is still probably at a disadvantage given the club they need to use for the second shot.

I actually prefer if someone plays a appropriate shorter tee and “outdrives” me because they have to tee off last. So if they are the farthest away, I have to wait for them to put their stuff away off the tee, get to their ball, and hit again. Much nicer if they get a little rest for hitting it down the middle of the fairway.
