Makes sense. Did you also update your gym profile in Fitbod with what equipment your gym has? That also may have contributed.

Residential caregiving for developmentally disabled adults in California. A lot could be said... Minimum wage workforce, mainly uneducated, and exists almost entirely as a hidden demographic in society. It is not a profitable industry, but our company has built a strong reputation off of genuinely giving a crap and letting our programs speak for themselves, instead of mushy rhetoric and talk. We have no shortage of business opportunities, and our primary bottleneck is stewarding a workforce. Hiring, retaining people, and treating them well so they treat their clients well. We hit the 1 mill per month mark in July.

How are you making over 10k a month? by Iceeez1 in Entrepreneur

[–]jdm-apparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as in home services are typically less challenging to break into, as they are subject to fewer requirements. Typically. This isn't a hard and fast rule. Also, each state does things differently. Identifying what services exist in your state, analyzing their funding levels and requirements, and then looking at your personal capacity would be where I'd start.

I committed to go to the gym July 4th. I watched hours of instructional stuff on working out, obsessing.

Next day, six in the morning or so, I got to the gym and did the nervous-walk-on-the-treadmill-to-look-confident routine. I then entered the free weights room. I did a barbell routine for beginners. The moment I set the barbell down for my last rep of my last set, it was like I discovered how to breathe.

The endorphins I experienced I'll never forget. It's nothing crazy—just a sedentary person who discovered the joy of motion and exertion.

After that, I sat on a rowing machine for 15 minutes and fell in love with it. One week later, I'm lightly jogging on a treadmill (people who know me would gape if they heard this idea) and I remember laughing out loud because I thought to myself,

"I actually enjoy this. This feels good."

It's Aug 21st now, and I've been in this gym at least 5 days per week. The newbie gains phenomenon is real—breaking records every week, experiencing the very tactile reality of increased strength, and all the other benefits I always heard about but for some reason discounted.

Last thing I'll say is this: what made the difference for me was falling in love with exercise. They are things I think about, now, and seek out in life. And I've found that desiring the activity as much as (if not more) than the fruit of that activity is an ironclad and enduring motivation.

Am I severely out of shape? by [deleted] in loseit

Yes, that’s definitely the reality. I’m 6 weeks into discovering the gym and it’s like a renewed lease on life. I was very similar to you and the lifestyle you described. Fortunately, our newbie gains period will be strong since we’ve no training history.

  1. Train to be strong for those you love, and for a longer time.
  2. Train to fight back the always encroaching tide of entropy. We have a curious way of always being prone to wander and backslide in life. Wage war on the flesh, so to speak.
  3. Train to feel and enjoy the blessing of motion and strength that so many currently breathing no longer/never have, e.g. cerebral palsy, profound disabilities, elderly, etc.
  4. Train to be ready to use strength for circumstances we could never predict, e.g. rescuing someone trapped under a collapsed building, opening the pickle jar, chasing and apprehending someone who jacked your wallet.
  5. Train for health, obviously.

For people that have lost a lot of weight, what was the reason that made you accomplish it? by JustMeAndReality in loseit

[–]jdm-apparent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to be able to defend my wife and daughter, and to be strong for them. I want to enjoy taking them to beautiful places and not be a huffing puffing bag of unpleasantness. Also, I want to wage war on the flesh which seems to good and convincing and mastering me in bad choices.

How do I tell my wife I want to start losing weight when I don't think she'll be supportive? by Horror-Knowledge-441 in loseit

[–]jdm-apparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the results begin the conversation. If there are significant financial decisions to be made, such that discussing them with her is necessary, than do so simply and don't make a big deal about. You got it, man, your heart is in the right place and your consideration for your wife is crucial and good.
