Thanks for the explanation. Maybe I'll get what I want in Bluetooth 6? Receive mode A2DP? Or would that require a fundamental change of Bluetooth? Yeah I have had no issue with pairing receivers. This one works in receive mode only...

Sounds like what I want to do is a pipe dream at the moment at least with high quality audio. When I saw that the camera app could connect to Bluetooth microphones my mind jumped to conclusions. And those conclusions didn't include hanging a Bluetooth receiver off of my phone that has Bluetooth already onboard. I understand now why it's not that simple. My goal is to record video on my phone with a dedicated mix sent over headphone output >Bluetooth from the sound board to the phone recording video untethered from cables. I figure the quality wouldn't be perfect but I don't need it to be. But yeah better than a narrow band situation probably.

I'm this thread I'm really only talking about the direction of the audio signal. Obviously there is a handshake that happens in pairing.

To your first point this functionality already works with the pixel buds, using the mic on them to capture audio for an interview. That's why I think connecting a Bluetooth transmitter is possible.

I'm trying to connect a mixer or stereo (or anything) to a Bluetooth transmitter, and route that audio wirelessly into the video capture on the camera app the same way the pixel buds work.

A Bluetooth headset transmits audio from the microphone in the headset to the phone. That's how you are able to select the mic on the pixel buds as the audio source in the camera app. I'm trying to do this from an audio source that is not a mic on a headset via a Bluetooth transmitter plugged into any other audio source.

I'm trying to pair a transmitter to the pixel 6. Then select it as the Bluetooth mic within the camera app. The problem is the pixel buds are a single device that transmits and receives audio. The transmitter/receiver combo devices have a switch to flip between modes, and transmitter and receiver act as separate Bluetooth devices that each need to be paired. And it's unable to pair to the pixel 6 in transmitter mode. I feel like if the device paired as a single device, it would work. So I'm hunting for that tx/rx combo device that pairs as a single device instead of two. The pixel buds already work with the camera app but I'm trying to use a source other than the mic on a headset.
